Størstedelen af amerikansk tegneseriekultur handlede om at genopgylpe superheltemainstreamen eller gøre oprør mod den, men her var der noget anderledes: en ærlig, personlig, kærligt udformet samling af historier om normale mennesker med rødder i forfatterens kulturelle historie og personlige oplevelser.
