Maritime medicine represents an area of medicine that has origins dating back to Egyptian, Greek, Roman, Viking and European times. Seafarers have been the pioneers in the exploration of new continents, they have accessed territories that have given mankind access to resources found in other regions. The practice of maritime medicine requires that the professional has a series of skills and competencies that include a deep knowledge of the subject, professional ethics, ability to work in teams and interact with professionals from different areas, an openness to multicultural treatment, relations with international organizations to meet requirements for the transport of people and goods at the international level. This work is a compendium of some of the training activities that should be developed by students of the maritime medicine specialty program at the UCA and can serve as a first contact with the subject and reference for people who start learning in this specialized medical area and unknown to most of the medical staff at international level, we hope it will be useful.
La medicina marítima representa un área de la medicina que tiene orígenes desde las épocas, egipcias, griegas, romanas, vikingas, europeas. Los marineros ha sido los pioneros en la exploración de nuevos continentes, han accedido a territorios que han brindado a la humanidad el acceso a recursos que se encuentran en otras regiones. El ejercicio de la medicina marítima requiere que el profesional disponga una serie de aptitudes y competencias que comprenden conocimiento profundo de la materia, ética profesional, habilidad para trabajar en equipo e interactuar con profesionales de distintas áreas, una apertura para el trato pluricultural; relaciones organismos internacionales para cumplir con requerimientos para el transporte de personas y mercancías a nivel internacional. Esta obra es un compendio de algunas de las actividades formativas que deben ser desarrolladas por los estudiantes del programa de especialidad en medicina marítima en la UCA y puede servir como un primer contacto con el tema y referencia para las personas que inician aprendizaje en esta área médica especializada y desconocida para gran parte del personal médico a nivel internacional, esperamos sea de utilidad.
This paper shows the results obtained from a review and comparison of the Costa Rican health system versus other health systems in North and Latin America. A review of the Costa Rican national health system (SNSCR), the actors of the sector, its purposes, functions and objectives is carried out. A quick review of the social security system, which is solidary and cornerstone of the development model and social peace of the country, is made. Finally, there is a review of the structure and conformation of the health services network offered by the country. The national health systems of Brazil, Cuba, the United States of America and Spain are studied, and their constitutional principles, availability of resources, provision of services, their financing model and the role of governments in the contribution of economic resources are also reviewed.It is in the author's interest that this work be a text of general conceptualization and general reference for the reader, on the health models of countries of different political ideology, and it is hoped that the reader will be able to extract the benefits or difficulties in each case.
The Costa Rican Social Security Fund (CCSS) is one of the public institutions that defined the country's path in the twentieth century. Based on values of responsibility, commitment, respect, courtesy, honesty, respect for people, its philosophical principles, ethical principles, mystique, commitment and excellence in the work of the institution's employees are pillars in the operation of this institution and in the social peace of Costa Rica. This paper reviews the philosophical framework, the structure of the institution's senior management, and shows how the insurance structure is conformed, whether it is health, pension or non-contributory. At the operational level, the reader will learn about the conformation, distribution, hierarchies, operation of the health services network, health facilities by levels of care, as well as the organization of care services at the first level known as the EBAIS. In addition, you will learn the principles of internal control that the institution must comply with given the internal control law applied to public institutions in Costa Rica.
This book reviews the principles of project management, its concepts, main processes, phases, life cycles, management systems, the different types of reports, organization and structure of project management units. It also reviews those concepts that involve human capital, the culture in the organization, the participants, the elaboration of reports before, during and after the execution of the project, the communication between the actors of the project and its relation with other administrative and technical disciplines, in this case with the organizations in the health sector. The Costa Rican Social Security Fund (CCSS) is one of the public institutions that defined the country's path in Costa Rica in the twentieth century. It has several departments, one of which is responsible for infrastructure and technology projects, which internally consists of four directorates that are responsible for the institution's macroprojects. In this work, reference is made to how the CCSS applies the principles of project management as an operational tool in the administration of health services.
