Irish Fairy Tales is a classic Irish fairy tale collection by William Butler Yeats. I am often doubted when I say that the Irish peasantry still believe in fairies tales. People think I am merely trying to bring back a little of the old dead beautiful world of romance into this century of great engines and spinning-jinnies. Surely the hum of wheels and clatter of printing presses, to let alone the lecturers with their black coats and tumblers of water, have driven away the goblin kingdom and made silent the feet of the little dancers.

The Shadowy Waters is a play written by the renowned Irish poet and playwright, William Butler Yeats. The play is set in ancient Ireland and follows the journey of a young man named Maiveen, who sets out on a quest to find his lost love, Deirdre. Along the way, he meets a group of mysterious and otherworldly beings, including a powerful sorceress named Cathleen, who guide him through the shadowy waters of the afterlife. As Maiveen travels deeper into the unknown, he must confront his own fears and desires, and ultimately decide whether to stay with Deirdre in the afterlife or return to the mortal world. The play explores themes of love, loss, and the human condition, as well as the mystical and supernatural elements of Irish mythology.Written in Yeats' signature poetic style, The Shadowy Waters is a haunting and evocative work that showcases the author's mastery of language and storytelling. It is a must-read for fans of Irish literature and anyone interested in exploring the deeper mysteries of the human experience.Edain came out of Midhir's hill, and lay Beside young Aengus in his tower of glass, Where time is drowned in odour-laden winds And Druid moons, and murmuring of boughs, And sleepy boughs, and boughs where apples made Of opal and ruhy and pale chrysolite Awake unsleeping fires; and wove seven strings. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Poetry is a window to the soul of the writer. In this collection of the poems of W. B. Yeats, the reader gets an insight into how Yeats' personality, priorities and style evolved throughout his life. And it's an incredibly fascinating journey. In this collection of 40 of his works, he writes about Irish legends and the occult, including the beautiful, haunting 'When You are Old' and 'The Lake Isle of Innisfree'. Later poems are less lyrical and more political and realistic, including 'Parnell's Funeral'.This collection of perfect poems is great for fans of Lord Byron and Percy Bysshe Shelley.William Butler Yeats (1865-1939) was an Irish poet, dramatist and writer.A driving force behind the Irish Literary Revival, he also served two terms as a Senator of the Irish Free State. Fellow poet W. H. Auden credited Yeats with having written "some of the most beautiful poetry" of modern times. Many of his early poems featured Irish legends and the occult, while his later verse was more politicised and realistic. He was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1923.

The Green Helmet and Other Poems is a classic Irish poetry collection by William Butler Yeats. I swayed upon the gaudy stern The butt end of a steering oar, And everywhere that I could turn Men ran upon the shore. And though I would have hushed the crowd There was no mother's son but said, "What is the figure in a shroud Upon a gaudy bed?"

In the Seven Woods: Being Poems Chiefly of the Irish Heroic Age is a volume of Irish poems by W. B. Yeats, published in 1903 by Elizabeth Yeats's Dun Emer Press, the first edited by this publishing house. Dun Emer published two editions of the book in 1903. The more expensive collection was published on Dutch and Irish paper and is bound with a vellum cover with Irish linen ties (see image). This is the first book of Yeats's "middle period," in which he eschewed his previous Romantic ideals and preference for pre-Raphaelite imagery, in favor of a more spare style and an anti-romantic poetic stance similar to that of Walter Savage Landor. The poem "Adam's Curse", however, continues to reflect the old ideals. This is also the most popular and frequently anthologized of the poems from this volume. In The Seven Woods: I have heard the pigeons of the Seven Woods Make their faint thunder, and the garden bees Hum in the lime tree flowers; and put away The unavailing outcries and the old bitterness That empty the heart. I have forgot awhile Tara uprooted, and new commonness Upon the throne and crying about the streets And hanging its paper flowers from post to post, Because it is alone of all things happy. Contents: "In the Seven Woods""The Old Age of Queen Maeve""Baile and Ailinn""The Arrow""The Folly of Being Comforted""The Withering of the Boughs""Adam's Curse""The Song of Red Hanrahan""The Old Men Admiring Themselves in the Water""Under the Moon""The Players Ask for a Blessing in the Psalteries and Themselves""The Rider From the North"Comment by Yeats"On Baile's Strand: A Play"Advertisements (in the cheaper version)

The Trembling of the Veil is a classic autobiography by the Irish poet William Butler Yeats. I have found in an old diary a quotation from Stephane Mallarm? saying that his epoch was troubled by the trembling of the veil of the Temple. As those words were still true, during the years of my life described in this book, I have chosen The Trembling of the Veil for its title.

    af William Butler Yeats

Cathleen Ni Hoolihan is a one-act play written in prose by the Irish poet and playwright, William Butler Yeats, and first published in 1902. The play is set in rural Ireland in the early 19th century and tells the story of a mysterious old woman named Cathleen Ni Hoolihan who appears to a family mourning the loss of their son who was about to be married. She convinces the family's youngest son to abandon his plans for marriage and join her in the fight for Irish independence. The play is a powerful allegory for the Irish struggle for independence from British rule, and the character of Cathleen Ni Hoolihan has become an iconic symbol of Irish nationalism. The play is also notable for its use of traditional Irish folk music and poetry, which Yeats incorporated into the text to create a distinctly Irish atmosphere.Overall, Cathleen Ni Hoolihan is a short but powerful play that explores themes of sacrifice, patriotism, and the struggle for freedom. It remains a beloved work of Irish literature and a testament to Yeats' skill as a playwright and poet. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. The Wind Among the Reeds is a classic collection of Irish poetry by William Butler Yeats. All things uncomely and broken, all things worn out and old, The cry of a child by the roadway, the creak of a lumbering cart, The heavy steps of the ploughman, splashing the wintry mould, Are wronging your image that blossoms a rose in the deeps of my heart.

We have thousands of titles available, and we invite you to search for us by name, contact us via our website, or download our most recent catalogues. At times during Synge's last illness, Lady Gregory and I would speak of his work and always find some pleasure in the thought that unlike ourselves, who had made our experiments in public, he would leave to the world nothing to be wished away-nothing that was not beautiful or powerful in itself, or necessary as an expression of his life and thought. When he died we were in much anxiety, for a letter written before his last illness, and printed in the selection of his poems published at the Cuala Press, had shown that he was anxious about the fate of his manuscripts and scattered writings. On the evening of the night he died he had asked that I might come to him the next day; and my diary of the days following his death shows how great was our anxiety. Presently however, all seemed to have come right, for the Executors sent me the following letter that had been found among his papers, and promised to carry out his wishes.
