The Paris Sketch Book Of Mr. M. A. Titmarsh And The Irish Sketch Book is a collection of essays and sketches written by the famous English author, William Makepeace Thackeray. The book is divided into two parts, with the first part focusing on Thackeray's experiences in Paris and the second part on his travels in Ireland. In the Paris Sketch Book, Thackeray provides a humorous and satirical commentary on the people and culture of Paris during the mid-19th century. He writes about his encounters with various characters, including artists, writers, and aristocrats, and offers his observations on French society, politics, and customs. In the Irish Sketch Book, Thackeray turns his attention to Ireland, providing a similarly satirical and humorous commentary on the people and culture of the country. He writes about his experiences traveling through various parts of Ireland, meeting with locals, and attending cultural events.Throughout both parts of the book, Thackeray's writing is characterized by his wit, humor, and keen powers of observation. His sketches offer a vivid and entertaining picture of life in both Paris and Ireland during the 19th century, making this book a must-read for anyone interested in the history and culture of these countries. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. ""A Legend of the Rhine"" is a novella written by William Makepeace Thackeray, a British author and satirist. The story is set in Germany along the Rhine River and follows the adventures of two young men, Karl and Max, who fall in love with the same woman, Hilda. Hilda is the daughter of a wealthy nobleman, Baron von Landshort, who disapproves of her relationship with either of the young men. The story revolves around the love triangle and the Baron's attempts to keep Hilda away from Karl and Max. Thackeray's vivid descriptions of the Rhine landscape and his portrayal of the characters' emotions and motivations make this a compelling and romantic tale. The novella was first published in 1845 and is considered one of Thackeray's lesser-known works.Over the entrance of a little cavern in one of the rocks hanging above the Rhine-stream at Rolandseck, and covered with odoriferous cactuses and silvery magnolias, the traveller of the present day may perceive a rude broken image of a saint: that image represented the venerable Saint Buffo of Bonn, the patron of the Margrave; and Sir Ludwig, kneeling on the greensward, and reciting a censer, an ave, and a couple of acolytes before it, felt encouraged to think that the deed he meditated was about to be performed under the very eyes of his friend's sanctified patron. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. We have lately made the acquaintance of an old lady of ninety, who has passed the last twenty-five years of her old life in a great metropolitan establishment, the workhouse, namely, of the parish of Saint Lazarus. Stay-twenty-three or four years ago, she came out once, and thought to earn a little money by hop-picking; but being overworked, and having to lie out at night, she got a palsy which has incapacitated her from all further labour, and has caused her poor old limbs to shake ever since.

We, who can recall the consulship of Plancus, and quite respectable, old-fogyfied times, remember amongst other amusements which we had as children the pictures at which we were permitted to look.
