The two volumes of The Archaeology of Medieval Europe will together comprise the first complete account of medieval archaeology across Europe. Archaeologists from academic institutions in fifteen countries are collaborating to produce these two books of sixteen thematic chapters each. In addition, every chapter will feature a number of ´box-texts´, by specialist contributors, highlighting sites or themes of particular importance. The books will be comprehensively illustrated throughout, in both colour and b/w, including line drawings and specially commissioned maps. This ground-breaking set, which is divided chronologically into two (Vol. 1 extending from the Eighth to Twelfth Centuries AD, and Vol. 2 from the Twelfth to Sixteenth Centuries - to appear 2008), will enable readers to track the development of different cultures, and of regional characteristics, throughout the full extent of medieval Catholic Europe. In addition to revealing shared contexts and technological developments, the complete work will also provide the opportunity for demonstrating the differences that inevitably present across the Continent - from Iceland to Italy, and from Portugal to Finland - and to study why such existed.
Science in Denmark takes the reader through a thousand years of political, social and cultural change in a Scandinavian country geographically reduced as national ambitions were rising. While the landmarks of Danish science are well-known with towering figures like Tycho Brahe, Nicolaus Steno, Ole Rømer, Hans Christian Ørsted and Niels Bohr, this up-to-date history of science in Denmark deals with much more. Science in Denmark: A Thousand-Years History is a remarkable testimony of how international trends influenced and were appropriated in a specific and welldefined national context. The authors present a fascination narrative of a complex history based on original research and rich in detail. This is the story of what science meant to Danes through the ages from early astronomical learning and the founding of the first university through the scientific revolution and gradual professionalization of scientific disciplines to an increasingly international and eventually global world of science. In 2007 the authors received the prestigious H.O. Lange Award for Outstanding Science Communication for Dansk Naturvidenskabs Historie - four volumes published in Danish on the history of science in Denmark.

Danish physician and anatomist Thomas Bartholin (1616-1680) was one of the most important anatomists of the 17th century. As a scientist, his greatest achievement was the discovery and naming of the lymphatic vessels, but he was also a pioneer in a number of other areas of medicine. In Denmark, his tireless efforts as head of the Anatomy House in Copenhagen and professor of anatomy and medicine were crucial to the rise of anatomical science in the 17th century. He was a skilled and sought-after teacher and mentor, and his efforts in this area were crucial to his famous student Niels Stensen's (1638-1686) outstanding career as an anatomist and geologist. With his authorship of over 80 comprehensive books, Thomas Bartholin was one of the most diligent and skilful communicators of his time. The book unfolds the entire life and work of Thomas Bartholin and analyses and puts into perspective his significance for contemporaries and posterity in a scientific context. The book is an expanded English version of the author's Danish biography of Thomas Bartholin from 2017, where the new material relates in particular to his importance to Niels Stensen.
Recent studies have reshaped the understanding of the early Viking Age power center, near Erritso just a few kilometers from Fredericia in Southern Denmark. Investigations at the site, which in many ways resembles the grand royal halls at Lejre in Zealand, have revealed significant new insights into the Iron Age and Viking Age around the royal estate. Notably, Erritso's strategic location, where all transportation routes between north, south, east, and west converge, both by land and by sea. This anthology presents several similar sites in Northern Europe by multiple top international researchers: from Norway, Sweden, North Germany and England. Similarities and differences in time and space are examined, providing a nuanced understanding of the international power dynamics of this period. Notably, the latest research results and datings provided by the studies at Erritsø are presented. Here, the acquisition of the majority of c-14 datings and chronological modeling of c-14 data on such halls has significantly refined the dating framework. The book is the result of a research project that over the past eight years, has greatly expanded our understanding of this subject and location.
