(Please note: This book is published in Hungarian) The volume titled A színpadtól a színpadig (From the Stage to the Stage) edited by Mária Kurdi and Zsuzsa Csikai contains selections from various parts of the work of theatre studies expert Professor Marvin Carlson (City University of New York, Graduate Center), in Hungarian translation. The selections were made from the following books by the author: Theatre Semiotics: Signs of Life; Performance: A Critical Introduction; The Haunted Stage: Theatre as Memory-Machine; Speaking in Tongues: Languages at Play in the Theatre; Theatre is More Beautiful than War: German Stage Directing in the Late Twentieth Century. Besides, the following articles of Marvin Carlson are represented in the volume, in part or in full: "The Status of Stage Directions," "Performing the Past: Living History and Cultural Memory," "Intercultural Theory, Postcolonial Theory, and Semiotics: The Road Not (Yet) Taken," "Space and Theatre." The translators are affiliated to the University of Pécs as full-time or part-time teachers, PhD students and graduated MA students. The aim of the volume is to help the work and studies of teachers, students and theatre makers in Hungary.

The horror author infamously famous for his listless, gaunt, lantern-jawed face, H. P. Lovecraft is smiling. This picture is the only such one. The effect is uncanny. Weird it may be, it is not the rare occasion that horror geeks or slasher fans cannot help but ask themselves of the appeal in horror fiction. Is it just the gory scenes? Only cheap thrills compared to something far more hideous, a dread unfathomable to the richest of imaginations? An answer seems to be lurking behind Lovecraft's enigmatic smile. His monsters crawl out of the most unexpected cracks of our culture, no marvel that Michel Houellebecq, an ardent reader of the Lovecraftian oeuvre himself, becomes mystified upon meeting Lovecraft's fans: "They have not read his work and don't even intend to do so. Nonetheless, oddly, they want to find out more-beyond the texts [...]."Indeed, as if it wasn't the most imperative question of them all, the ultimate riddle: what is beyond the texts? What connects Herman Melville and Henry James to H. P. Lovecraft, and through him, to John Carpenter, Ridley Scott, and video games? Is there a secret code hidden in the cypher of one of Sigmund Freud's most elusive writings? Impossible to tell. Lovecraft's paroxysm is a caveat here: "The Thing cannot be described-there is no language for such abysms of shrieking and immemorial lunacy, such eldritch contradictions of all matter, force, and cosmic order." Then what is it that we read, watch, and play, if not the Thing itself?Lovecraft is laughing.

Cultural Vistas and Sites of Identity. Essays on Literature, Film and American Studies by Réka M. Cristian reflects on an array of American identities assembled in a heterogeneous compilation of New American Studies through examples taken from literature (Getting Home Alive by Rosario Morales and Aurora Levins Morales, The Goat or Who Is Sylvia? by Edward Albee, How I Learned to Drive by Paula Vogel) and film (The Roman Spring of Mrs. Stone, Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, Frida and Babel). Réka M. Cristian is Associate Professor of American Studies at the Institute of English and American Studies, University of Szeged, Hungary. She is co-author of Encounters of the Filmic Kind: Guidebook to Film Theories (2008) and founding editor of AMERICANA - E-Journal of American Studies in Hungary and its AMERICANA eBooks division.

Jack Roberts's detective novel is set in Szeged, in the South of Hungary in 2000 and it represents the symbiosis of political and personal life in post-Communist Hungary in a university context. When the retired professor of history dies, the question of motive is this: was the crime committed because of political or personal reasons, and the reconstruction of the crime follows up both agendas in minute detail. The text relies on the framework of the hard-boiled detective novel to expose a difficult moral dilemma of manipulation and being manipulated through tightly composed psychological close-ups worthy of a Modernist novel. This mix of features results in a very much regional but at the same time philosophical novel.

Az amerikai dráma, színház és Miller művészetének kritikai feltérképezésében, elemzésében számos tanulmány és kõnyv látott nálunk napvilágot az utóbbi években. Arthur Miller õrõksõge: centenáriumi írások műveiről című könyvünk ezekhez az eredményekhez csatlakozik, Miller születésének (1915) centenáriuma alkalmából jelentetjük meg. Hiánypótló gyűjteménynek tekinthető, hiszen Millerről az utóbbi évtizedben nem jelent meg hasonló kötet vagy monográfia Magyarországon. A szerzők egyetemi oktatók és doktoranduszok, a kötet szerkesztője a PTE tanára. A tanulmányok közös vonása, hogy egyrészt Miller olyan népszerű műveit, mint Az ügynök halála és A bűnbeesés után olyan korszerű szempontok bevonásával elemzik, mint a családdráma paradigmája, illetve a drámanarratológia eredményei. Másrészt kevésbé ismert műveket vizsgálnak, például a Gyújtópont című regényt, valamint a Lefelé a hegyről és a Feltámadás blues című késői drámákat. Egyes tanulmányok Miller színházi írásainak részleteire és a drámaíró nemzetközi színházi kapcsolataira szintén figyelmet fordítanak. Munkáikban a széleskörű szakirodalmi tájékozódás mellett a szerzők különböző releváns elméleti belátásokra támaszkodnak.

Itt közreadott kötetünk az ELTE Irodalomtudományi Doktori Iskolája "Testi, kapcsolati és narratív alanyiság az irodalomban és a kultúrában" elnevezésű kutatócsoportjának a munkája. A kutatócsoportot 2015 tavaszán hívta életre Bollobás Enikő; tagjai két féléven át, a doktori kurzusok adta heti rendszerességgel találkoztak. A szubjektumelméletek összetett problematikájának különböző témaköreit tanulmányozták, együtt járva be azt a különös elméleti teret, amelynek fogalmi keretét az elbeszélő alany, a kapcsolati alany és a korporalizált alany, valamint a performativitás alkotja.

This new book contains new translations of a selection of poems by the modern magyar poet Radnóti Miklós, a 1935 graduate of the University of Szeged. Born in Budapest in 1909, Radnóti began publishing his poems and translations while still a university student. By the late 1930's, he had established himself as a major new voice in magyar poetry. His life ended in 1944 not far from the village of Abda, where, a short distance from the banks of the Rába, he was slain by his captors near the end of a forced march that had begun in the mountains of Serbia months before. Many of the poems included here were composed during his captivity in the labor camp whose name appears at the end of several eclogues and other poems.

(Please note: This book is published in Hungarian) English abstract: In Tennessee Williams Goes to Hollywood, or the Dialogue of Drama and Film Zoltán Dragon sets out to renew the dominant critical and theoretical background and vocabulary of the theory of adaptation, and to provide a novel way to study adaptations. He takes his cue from the analyses of celebrated Hollywood film adaptations of the plays of Tennessee Williams. The book introduces the notions of intermedial dialogue and medial break, providing a feasible and flexible framework for the interpretation not only of Williams plays, but in a more general way for film adaptations across various media.

Mert ugyan mi is lehetne zavarba ejtőbb vagy fenyegetőbb az önazonosság kérdéseinél?
