This volume compiles the contributions at the International Conference of the same name, which was held at Leibniz University Hanover in June 2021. The conference was planned by the collaborative project "Provenance Research on Non-European Collections and Ethnology in Lower Saxony" (PAESE), coordinated at the State Museum Hanover. The aim was to bring together actors from different perspectives to discuss questions, methods and (preliminary) results in the field of provenance research on collections from colonial contexts. DE

Das moderne Bauen, die baubezogene Kunst und die Formgestaltung der unmittelbaren Nachkriegszeit haben nach Jahrzehnten der Geringschätzung zuletzt wachsende Anerkennung gefunden. Die Matrix Moderne umfasst eine Vielzahl modernistischer Bewegungen und Stile in Ost- wie in Westeuropa. Die Entwicklungen im Zuge des Neu- oder Wiederaufbaus im Ostblock jedoch bedürfen einer eigenständigen Betrachtung, welche die spezifischen Bedingungen ihrer Entstehung in den Blick nimmt. Das Konzept der Ostmoderne ermöglicht zugleich ein Hinterfragen der bisherigen Maßstäbe für die Aneignung von Tendenzen der internationalen Moderne auf europäischer Ebene. Der vorliegende Band vereint Beiträge der gleichnamigen Tagung der Kunstsammlungen Chemnitz. DE

This work describes different facets of South African settler primitivism and the interactions of its protagonists, who moved between the poles of European modernism and local traditional cultures. Marked by great ambivalences, they oscillated between transnational and national approaches to an art production that appropriated indigenous landscapes, peoples and their visual cultures in order to indigenise white settlers to the South African land. A focus is set on the women artists Irma Stern and Maggie Laubser, who were key to the development of South African modernism.

Le travail de Daniel Spoerri se situe au croisement de plusieurs courants et tendances artistiques. Pour la plupart des commentateurs, il est pourtant généralement abordé comme un artiste du Nouveau Réalisme, et son ¿uvre cantonnée au Tableau-Piège. Cette place délimitée, forgée par une historiographie largement marquée par les efforts classificateurs de Pierre Restany, ne correspond en réalité qüà une petite partie de son travail. Ses films, sa poésie, ses livres, les éditions MAT, ses activités d¿organisateur d¿évènements et d¿expositions sont autant d¿exemples de la diversité et de l¿ouverture de ses champs de recherche. Dans les années 1960, il se rapproche de Fluxus et de Zero et pose les fondements du Eat Art. Son ¿uvre s¿inscrit dans des réseaux transnationaux mêlant des disciplines, des approches théoriques et matérielles différentes, et il importe aujourd¿hui de réévaluer ses interactions avec les différents acteurs de la période. Cet ouvrage constitue les actes du colloque « Topographies de Daniel Spoerri : l¿artiste en ses réseaux » organisé au DFK Paris par Jill Carrick et Déborah Laks les 22 et 23 octobre 2018. --- Daniel Spoerri¿s oeuvre occupies the intersection of several artistic trends and tendencies. Most commentators on his work, on the other hand, considered him a New Realist artist, and his work is often reduced to that of the trap paintings. This abbreviation, consolidated by art historiography and largely formed by the classificatory efforts of Pierre Restany, corresponds, however, to only a small part of his oeuvre. Spoerri¿s films, his poetry, his books, the MAT editions, his importance as an organiser of events and exhibitions are examples of the diversity and openness of his activities. In the 1960s he was close to Fluxus and Zero and laid the foundation for Eat Art. Understanding the artist¿s work as part of transnational networks that combine different disciplines and theoretical and material approaches suggests a re-evaluation of Spoerri¿s interactions with a wide range of contemporary actors. This book explores these questions as the proceedings of the colloquium ¿Topographies of Daniel Spoerri: the artist in his networks¿ organised by Jill Carrick and Déborah Laks at DFK Paris on 22 and 23 October 2018.

Die Räume, in denen Forschung und Lehre stattfinden, gelten häufig als Nebensache. Zumeist erfahren sie erst bei einschneidenden Veränderungen Aufmerksamkeit. Dabei wird dann deutlich, dass der Campus stets Raum für ganz unterschiedliche Entwürfe geboten hat. Die Beiträge dieses Bandes thematisieren historische und gegenwärtige Transformationen des Konzepts Campus. Diskutiert werden markante architektonische Beispiele aus Deutschland, aber auch aus dem angelsächsischen und französischen Kontext. Sichtbar gemacht werden politische Programme, ideologische Aufladungen und kritische Wahrnehmungen von modernen Hochschulräumen. Untersucht wird auch die mediale Dimension des Gebauten. Was vermag die Rolle künstlerischer Forschungen und Interventionen dabei zu sein? Können Sie die dominanten Logiken des Konzepts Campus aufdecken, unterlaufen oder gar brechen und es damit für neue Aneignungen öffnen? DE

The research field of prehistory and modernity is very topical in both French as well as German art history, though the traditions differ. In view of this historical situation, the conference¿s goal (DFK Paris, 2017) was to raise awareness and initiate a dialog, which opened up new perspectives for all participants and generated innovative research. Prehistory, or primeval times, leads back to fundamental art historical questions: When did abstraction begin? What specific qualities of prehistoric artefacts contributed to solutions to artistic problems of the European avant-gardists like Picasso, Miró, Baumeister, Giacometti or Bataille? What is characteristic of prehistoric art as compared to other arts premiers? Work-related questions stood at the center of the discussions and revealed interdisciplinary connections and opened debates intended to inspire further research.

On the occasion of the anniversary of their foundation, the ZADIK - Central Archive of the International Art Trade in cooperation with the Institute of Art History of the University of Cologne, basis wien and the Institute of Modern Art Nuremberg organized a conference for international art archives. This conference catalogue assembles the oral presentations given by representatives of the art archives that were invited, providing information on their institutional situation and collection priorities as well as their work and their user services.
