Cross-culture and/or multiculturalism have become catchwords and phrases in certain studies within academia, but they have mostly become battle grounds for contestation and convergence with contestation of identity, cultural authenticity and/or supremacy and hegemony. Yet, over and above all these skirmishes, convergence tends to win the day as it struggles for a cosmopolitan culture and polity, albeit very difficult to achieve. The present work follows the same line of thought by trying to bring a new perspective into what it calls cultural dialogism inherent in the corpus of texts borrowed from The Alhambra by W. Irving. The texts selected display a dual characteristic: the first is addressed as organic in the sense that the texts reflect some eight hundred years of natural copulation between Muslim culture brought up by Muslim conquerors to the Andalusian Christendom; the second underlines a volition on the part of the author to merge the culture by intruding into the structures of the language and the texts. The present works intends to show that these characteristic hybridities transgress the generic boundaries as well as the cultural one producing a 'brassage' breaking the fixity of the boundaries (cultural and other) causing brisures and sutures. This endows the texts with a certain liminality that makes it difficult to authenticate them as belonging to either culture.

months of wondering what the hell happened, and if it was a dream or not. finally arriving upon an affirming decision, only to second-guess myself again. all those things they say about emotional young women: rape accuser, attention whore. why am i the one at fault? you did this to me? all i did was type it out. but you are the one who wrote me this. and you know what? let the blood boil. it was never ego going to my head. it was blood rushing to my head. just like it happened then. and all the nerves permanently stained by emotional memory; the ones that are supposed to be sacred to a woman. the ones that were mine, but you made yours. a tragic haunting: they speak to me in the night. and after years of waiting, wondering what can i do? they whispered to me, closely in my ear: write the book.
Psychedelics: A Full Story comprises an extensively researched discussion of the major psychedelics: LSD, psilocybin (magic mushrooms), mescaline (peyote), DMT (ayahuasca), MDMA (ecstasy), ibogaine, and ketamine, and examines their historical and unique aspects as well as the most recent research. The colorful and controversial history of LSD is discussed from widespread and successful clinical use, little-know CIA projects, and serious personal exploration, to well-known controversial figures such as Timothy Leary. Reasons are examined for its sudden downfall from a position of esteem to one of fear and antipathy in the mind of the public. This discussion ranges from the history of these psychedelics to their potentials for healing and spiritual development, from their use among indigenous cultures to current researchers, from psychedelic drug explorations to questions about mind and consciousness. It includes in-depth discussion of the potential of psychedelics to address several challenges facing us today including mental health disorders and addictions, the shrinking of our understanding of mind to the physical and chemical processes in the brain, and our difficulties dealing with death and dying. New and profound insights about the human mind emerging from psychedelic experience and research are discussed as well as exploration of transpersonal and spiritual experiences involving the nature, range, and depth of consciousness, the reality of spirit, and the nature of reality. The story of psychedelics examines what recently has become an exciting new chapter. While their use was made illegal in the late 1960s and research ground to a halt, in the last few years there has been an explosion of psychedelic research primarily focused on the possibilities it holds for the treatment of mental illness and addiction.

This book outlines the basic structures that make up the human mind and provides guidance on how a person can achieve greater freedom in managing their perception of reality, regulating their emotions, and making choices. It emphasizes that reality, in many ways, is a personal construct rather than something imposed from without. The book considers personal, social, and societal influences, offering an opportunity to examine their effects. It covers topics related to self-acceptance, needs, beliefs, values, emotions, temporal orientation, and dreams. Exercises are suggested to help the reader better comprehend how each topic relates to them personally and how to take steps toward making changes. The book has a spiritual orientation only insofar as it assumes the existence of a higher power and the continuity of consciousness through life and death. It is non-denominational and does not promote any particular religious beliefs.
