Tree House Forest is author Nancy Hall's sixth book, a collection of her short stories and latest poetry, which vividly paints a picture of the world around her based upon her life experiences and keen observations. In her short story Morning Star Home for Children, which opens the book, Nancy recounts: "Because the Tree House Forest had made a name for itself and was doing well, the City visited the mountaintop on one occasion -- and it appeared that the City wanted to take back the land from the black people. This made the black people wonder, How much further can we be shoved? George and Earl had been given the land, and they had made it look good -- too good -- and now the City wanted the land for itself. However, George and Earl and the residents steadfastly stood their ground; the City backed off; and George and Earl were able to keep their land." It's no surprise they prevailed, because, later in the book, as Nancy begins her poem, I Am a New Yorker: "I am a New Yorker. I can't be pushed, pulled, or grabbed."

Or is it a woman who has high standards in her life, inspiring other people around her? Is it realistic to aspire to be a respected lady in the Twenty-first Century? In Dare to be a Lady, Catia Mills explores what it means to be a lady in a world where high moral standards are not often upheld and women often behave like men. She challenges women to embrace old-fashioned ideals to create a blessed life in today's changing culture. Pot of Gold is an imaginative fantasy adventure story for children ages eight through twelve. Janet and Larry Garrison, twelve-year-old fraternal twins, are touring Limerick Caverns with their parents on St. Patricks Day. They spot an impish elfrechaun in the caverns and chase him into a strange new land. Four elves have had their gold stolen from their large black kettle, and Janet and Larry must help Rhymer, Prep, Stretch and Nate retrieve their missing fortune. Evilla is a wicked witch who terrorizes the elfrechauns. Larry and Janet must defeat her, and along the way they also have adventures with the Letter People, Puppet, the Protector, the Two-Facers and Chiron the Centaur from Greek mythology. Larry and Janet learn the secrets of the Great Cornucopia, take a wild roller coaster ride over a rainbow, figure out the mystery of the Rifle Tower and take an adventurous ride on the strange Merry-Go-Straight. In the end, Evillas changes her evil ways and falls in love with the Protector. Larry and Janet are magically transported back to Limerick Caverns where they are reunited with their parents.

Surrounded by mansions, beautiful beaches, and The Tennis Hall of Fame, I drew the inspiration for this book. Many years ago, I fell deeply in love with Newport, Rhode Island, the city by the sea. As a child, I was taken in by a family member who resided at one of the many beautiful estates, Chateau sur Mer - an estate located along the infamous Bellevue Avenue. The structure maintains its original name today, which translated means, "Castle by the Sea" and is one of the many, stunning homes now owned by the Preservation Society of Newport County and open for public visitation as a museum. My uncle, James B. Hook, was the chauffeur at Chateau sur Mer for 45 years for the Wetmore family. During my time with he and his family, I was exposed to a unique subculture of American history. My fascination with Newport grew as I learned about the area; its history, culture and inhabitants. The castle, or mansion, boasting 17 manicured acres and many interior rooms, required a large staff to maintain the property. Most of the staff were foreign-born; however, my uncle was one of the fortunate few who were native to New England. It was at this castle that I spent every summer for the first 17 years of my life and developed my life-long attachment to Newport.

As she groggily awoke, Amelia Earhart slowly realized that she was in a bed, a very nice, soft, comfortable and perfectly supporting bed. But as she reached down to feel the sheet and its mattress, all she felt was air and she thought, "How can this be?" As she tried to open her eyes and focus, she began to fuzzily see people standing around her, and in her head and body she felt very powerful, loving and healing energies. How nice she thought and just as she was peacefully dozing back to sleep, she thought she heard, "Squeak, squeak and then some strange rapid clicks. Echoing only in her mind she sensed, "Amelia certainly has had some impressive and adventurous life dreams..." The next day, she once more returned from her serene sleep. She again felt for the comforting velvety sleep sack and her comfortable mattress but once more, she realized with a bit of a start that she was feeling only air under her and she sensed that there was a soft, warm, kind of sensual, fuzzy sack like blanket enveloping her nude body. As she slowly opened her eyes, she again felt very loving, healing, soothing energies. She could more clearly see the people around her bed. There was a lovely lady touching her fingertips to each side of her head and another woman was holding her right hand. She heard in her head, "Amelia, Amelia can you hear me, can you feel me? Can you see me?" She groggily nodded her head, smiled slightly and whispered, "Oh yes...I can hear you..." She opened her eyes more fully and realized that these people in silver and also some gold flight suits were helping her. She struggled to return to more consciousness and awoke gasping and screamed, "Oh God! Oh no!" as she remembered that the last thing she saw was the ocean rushing up to her plane. She remembered hearing and feeling the terrifying impact and the loud wrenching and tearing of metal then the noise of cold rushing sea water. She heard in her head, "Amelia, I am Glinda and you are now waking up in our, uh hospital after we rescued you from your plane crash. Do you remember what happened, dear lady?"

This concise volume seeks, as Christian theorist Stanley Hauerwas put it, "to identify those people who in a compelling manner embody in their lives that larger journey." Earlier, Dietrich Bonhoeffer, Christian martyr, proposed that, "the Church's word gains weight and power not through concepts but by example." This thrust toward lifting up examples begins with traits -- seven of them: (1) hunger for God, (2) seeking community on the journey, (3) satisfaction with obscurity, (4) influencing others, (5) testimony in word and deed, (6) exhibiting behaviors worthy of imitation, and (7) living in the body of believers. Then appear seven portraits of women and men who have enabled faith to come alive and thrive: Arthur, radiant in faith from a paraplegic wheelchair; Zoe, pulling up by the bootstraps coal miner families; Willard, a scholar full of faith who helped right my sinking ship; "Wee Isa," sharing what she had from her meager store; Dennie, going downhill from cancer but walking uphill toward God all the way to life's close; Chris, who lent lay leadership to congregation and pastor; and Lawrence, nourishing faith in others along the way. Perhaps these portraits of contemporary examples of "the faith once delivered to the saints" will conjure in the reader exemplars in their own journey.

Space Bugs, Earth Invasion completes the young adult fantasy trilogy that was begun by Pot of Gold and Enchanta. Space Bugs, Earth Invasion is written for children eight to thirteen years of age. In Space Bugs, David and Barbara Morgan from the Enchanta novel join up with their cousins Larry and Janet Garrison from the Pot of Gold fantasy story to combat the evil forces of wicked Queen Termita from planet Insectia. The Insectians are human-size insects that invade Earth with their superior technology. The four young teens go to Hammonds Grove, New Jersey's most famous landmark, Superstitious Rock where they wish for Rhymer the elfrechaun from the Pot of Gold story and Changer, Pretender and Inventor from Enchanta to assist them. The four magical beings appear and then help the Morgan and Garrison kids go to battle against Queen Termita's forces. The Insectians use weapons such as the Identatron, the Evilsizer and the Micro-Minimizer against the Earth's armies, but the children counter with the Trojan Spider, the Medusa Medallions and the Termita Touch. The kids even have to battle in a spaceship' arena Queen Termita's fiercest monster, the Insectaclops. Rhymer, Changer, Inventor and Pretender play many hilarious pranks that frustrate and eventually defeat the Insectian army. In the end, the Insectians sign a Peace Treaty drawn up by the children, and then they return to their home planet. Rhymer, Changer, Pretender and Inventor go back to their worlds, and everything on Earth returns to normal.

The Sandbox is an adventurous tale of a hermit crab named King Rocco and his friends at the Jersey shore. The Sandbox is the first in a series of books. Author Carol Pellegrino is a retired grandmother of three from South Jersey. Since her retirement she has found a talent for writing short stories.

This inspiring story for children of all ages reveals that the stick's inner magic of love and kindness has the power to transform lives and communities, making the world a better place for all.

"I don't think so," I muttered before sending him an autographed photo from one of my modeling shoots. "Why's that?" he asked. "You're not exactly hard on the eyes!" he flattered as I shook my head.
