Since its founding, the Bureau of Dreams, has been an agency embroiled in controversy. Designed to save Balaise from decades of post-industrial decay, the mission of Bureau of Dreams has often put it at odds with the citizenry of the city. Now for the first time, the memoirs of a former bureaucrat who unwittingly discovered one of the Bureau's most ambitious - and some say shocking - program is revealed. This manuscript, seized by Bureau agents in a raid on the headquarters of political activist Jasmine Brown has never before been published. But a copy of the unabridged manuscript leaked to Novelzine press now allows us to publish this harrowing tale of an unheralded bureau employee who stumbled upon a plan to indefinitely incarcerate negative dreamers. This shocking story is a must read for any Balasian interested in the inner workings of the Bureau of Dreams and the future of our city.
Advice from an Alien is wildly original, heartfelt, and sublime. This guide to intellectual empowerment is thought provoking as it shares the wit and wisdom of a 500 year old alien who's taken residency on Earth for the past three centuries. It covers a gamut of provocative stimuli. Readers will be on a mind-bending, imaginative jaunt through the hinterlands of academia, honor, and integrity. The eight chapters cover timely and relevant topics such as religion, money, and cause celeb. This alien, aptly named Alien, speaks his mind on life on Earth. With a little help from two men and another rather woodsy friend, this book encourages readers to think outside of the box. Not to mention that Babe Ruth is an interstellar favorite and aliens are currently studying fifty-nine people worldwide, this memoir is truly fun, enlightening, and at times, jubilant. It points fingers, takes names, and makes no bones about saying what is right-universe-ally speaking, that is.
At first glance this may seem like a book about medication, but don't be fooled. These "pills" that Dr. Todd Clements is talking about are not pharmaceutical manufactured capsules, but rather specific challenges and activities aimed at helping you to start feeling better fast! Dr. Clements is a board certified psychiatrist, college professor, and author, who began prescribing a group of some of his most chronically depressed patients specific tasks to accomplish each day. He quickly noticed that those patients who followed through with his assignments experienced significant mood improvements compared to the ones who didn't. These patients also returned each week asking for him to give them more assignments. A new term was coined for Dr. Clements prescribed tasks when one lady commented to the group that her family had seen such a positive change in her that they were asking if she had been secretly taking "happy pills." Dr. Clements observed that as he continued to create and assign "happy pills" to these patients many of them underwent a radical change in not only the way they felt, but even in their whole view of life. Before long many of these patients were creating and sharing with each other their own "happy pills." Each "happy pill" in this book is accompanied by a specific task for the reader to complete. Some of these tasks can be done in a few minutes-such as listing 5 things each day that you're grateful for and then spending two minutes to reflect on each one. Other tasks, like writing a personal letter of appreciation to a friend, or donating 2 hours of your time to a local homeless shelter or food bank, require more time and planning to accomplish. Each "happy pill" is based on a Bible verse that applies directly to the day's task at hand. Happy Pills is different from other books in that once you read about that topic you're then asked to follow through with completing an activity. For instance, the happy pill #4: "Witness the Power of Words" is based on Ephesians 4:29, "Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs." Dr Clements explains how studies show that people raised in negative and discouraging environments suffer higher rates of depression and lower self-worth than people surrounded by a positive environment. He then challenges the reader to provide a sincere compliment to 3 people that day. As readers complete the challenge of each "happy pill" they realize more joy and fulfillment in their lives. This is great news for the millions of people suffering with depression who want to start feeling better fast-especially those who don't know where to start when it comes to breaking the spell of sadness that envelopes them. However, this book is not just for depressed people, but anyone who's up for a daily challenge that will expand their horizons. Happy Pills contains 31 different and unique challenges for its readers. The idea in mind is to complete a new "happy pill" each day for a month, but there are other ways that will work just fine too. Some people prefer to do the same "happy pills" over and over, while others like to do them together with a friend. Some support groups will choose one "happy pill" per week that each member accomplishes. What matters most is not the schedule, but the act of participating. Happy Pills is ideal to use with a counselor or in conjunction with a support group. Church groups will also find this book very useful, particularly due to the fact that each "happy pill" is tied to a specific Bible verse. Working through this book provides great opportunities for believers to strengthen and live out their faith. Happy Pills truly is a book that can be life changing!

While searching for Cesare, she accepts the theory that she is his reincarnated sister, Lucrezia, whom Cesare wants to possess again. He separates her from her normal life until she is submerged into memories from the past, and finally into the 15th century to witness their life. When she meets Antonio Cesarini, she believes him to be the modern counterpart of Cesare. They fall in love, but Cesare is out to ruin their relationship. By each passing day, Anya sinks deeper into Cesare's hold. In her love for him, she is blind to the disaster closing in on her until it is almost too late. Who will win in the end, the modern man, or the one from the past?
The selection of poems in this anthology may seem a bit unorthodox for Polish literature experts. I have no degree or expertise in any sort of literary research, which may well be the reason for my bizarre taste as presented here. I have tried my very best to include mainly those poems that are obligatory readings in Polish high schools, so that the English Reader can have the chance to get to know a portion of the choicest Polish poetry that an average Pole has willy-nilly come across in his life (one of the poems happens to be a well-known Christmas carol, even).
And She Danced For The King: Memoirs of a Rockette covers the 10-year career of Peggy Morrison, a professional dancer in the 1930s. It tells the story of an ordinary, but driven young woman who followed her dream and 'made it' in show business without compromising her family's values. Taken largely from letters written to her family throughout her career, the book chronicles a fascinating and unique time in the entertainment industry, the ten years preceding World War II. Peggy Morrison was an actual participant in many intriguing events that took place in the 1930s. She survived the depression, lived and worked in Paris when World War II was erupting, and narrowly missed being summoned by Hitler to Berlin. Written by Ro Trent Vaselaar, the niece of Peg Morrison Macherey, Vaselaar began this project as a way to preserve the stories for her family, but quickly realized that it was a story worth sharing.

Day after day, week after week, month after month, year after year went by as the horror of addiction clung mercilessly to our sons. We had rescued and helped them, shamed and rejected them. We had prayed and sought counsel, argued and become numb. They entered treatment centers and recovery programs but nothing made any difference. We were on a bobsled of grief that was plummeting into hell with no way to stop it or get off. We railed at God, "So, what happened? Didn't we have an agreement? We did the best we could. How could you let this happen?" After the Locusts is based on a mother's true tale of how God mercifully redeemed her family after decades of addiction; proving faithful to His promise that He will restore the years of our lives that the locusts have eaten.

To pit the legendary Confederate cavalry leader Nathan Bedford Forrest and his veteran cavalry regiments against a rookie Union Infantry colonel and his four infantry regiments mounted on mules might seem laughable, but it turned out to be anything but. The Union Raid began with a 300 mile boat trip, then began its move toward Georgia from the Mississippi/Alabama border. Its goal was to disrupt the rail line supplying Confederate troops in Tennessee. In a textbook tactical campaign, Streight held off the veteran Forrest until exhaustion, bad luck, and poor equipment did him in. This book tells the details.
