The canon of western political theory has long misrepresented Luther's political thought, mistaking it as a forerunner of the 'freedom of conscience' or the 'separation of church and state, ' or an ancestor of modern absolutism and even German totalitarianism. These misleading interpretations neglect Luther's central point: temporal government is a gift from God, worthy of honor and respect, independent yet complementary to the purpose and mission of the Church. Spanning Luther's career as a reformer, the writings in this anthology will demonstrate his resolve to restore temporal government to its proper place of honor and divine purpose.
This book presents six common objections to the teaching that the Holy Scriptures are, in fact, the verbally inspired revelation of God, and answers each objection with careful, detailed study of the text of Scripture itself.

An important contribution to the study of historic, confessing Lutheranism, showing how the statement "we condemn" found in the Lutheran Confessions is a necessary and essential part of any church body that wishes to say, "We believe." This book sets forth the confessional mandate that every Luther who subscribes to the Book of Concord is duty-bound to carry forward, precisely for the sake of a true confession of, witness to, and proclamation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Alberto L. GarcÃa, PhD, Profesor de TeologÃa Emérito, Concordia University Wisconsin"Martin Luther is recognized as a courageous reformer of the Christian church. His works are brimming with his great passion for proclaiming Jesus Christ to be the center of the Christian faith. Lesser known in Latino circles is that Luther was first and foremost an Old Testament scholar in the world of academia. His writings on the subject have, for the most part, not been translated into Spanish. This volume - translated from the Latin - is offered as one small step toward remedying this situation."Luther's maturity as a Bible translator and his deep familiarity with the Hebrew language, the art of rhetoric, the language of his people, and the most noteworthy Old Testament commentators are demonstrated in this work. Above all, Luther can be seen as having an intense pastoral vocation.

Dr. Klug has mined the voluminous writings of Luther to clarify Luther's understanding of church and ministry and has shown that, centuries later, Luther's views have shaped specific church bodies such as The Lutheran Church--Missouri Synod and particularly its leading founder, C. F. W. Walther.Divided in three parts the book looks atthe churchthe ministryan understanding of church and ministryDr. Klug interviews more than three dozen people who lend great interest and further clarification to the discussions in part 3. Although the interviewees may differ with Luther, amazingly, they agree as to what Luther says about church and ministry. The same is true of the 'other interpreters' in the final chapter. A balanced analysis that recognizes the doctrine of the ministry, as well as the rights and role of the congregation.
Enter into the mind of Christian writer C. S. Lewis, exploring the education he received in his formative years and taught during his mature years.Lewis forged a strong understanding of the value of education in life. What he proposed and illustrated in his writings and modeled in the classroom is a passion for education in the classical tradition and a commitment to truth in the context of the Christian faith. Lewis's defense of objective truth and the kind of curriculum that would support such truth form the foundation of his thought.Views on the purpose of education, model schools, and the Inner Ring also are explored along with the effectiveness of Lewis's use of analogy and other techniques to shape both the minds and the hearts of his students. The analysis of Lewis's educational philosophy and practice culminates in application of this philosophy and practice to current issues and challenges in modern education and modern Christian education: objective truth, pedagogy, curriculum, interdisciplinary thinking, the purpose of education, "head and heart," and much more.

It is Die deutsche Bibel, edited largely from Martin Luther's writings by the theologian Abraham Calov, in three large folio volumes, published in Wittenberg in 1681-82. It is of immense importance to Bach studies since it contains the composer's marginal comments alongside particular Biblical passages. They reveal something of the innermost thinking of the great composer and illuminate his theological and devotional approach to his art.Eminent Bach scholar and hymnologist Robin A. Leaver has brought together facsimiles of nearly all the marginal comments and corrections in Bach's hand, together with a selection of the most significant underlinings and other markings. Leaver discusses the character of the volumes, their rediscovery, and Bach's use of them. Included are beautiful, color facsimiles, enlargements of the entries in Bach's hand, and detailed notes and commentary by Leaver.
