  • - Report to the President by the Commission on CIA Activities within the U.S., including the CIA Involvement in Plans to Assassinate Foreign Leaders

    273,95 kr.

"Allegations that the CIA had been involved in plans to assassinate certain leaders of foreign countries came to the Commission's attention... The Commission's staff began the required inquiry, but time did not permit a full investigation before this report was due. The President therefore requested that the materials in the possession of the Commission which bear on these allegations be turned over to him. This has been done." --From the Preface of the The Rockefeller Commission Report, 1975 The Central Intelligence Agency, created in 1947 by President Harry S. Truman to become the US foreign intelligence service, has experienced over the years many controversies on how it conducted its operations. As a result, hereof, the US government initiated several inquiries into the CIA and produced reports on their actions. One of those reports is the Report to the President by the COMMISSION ON CIA ACTIVITIES WITHIN THE U.S--a.k.a. The Rockefeller Commission Report--of 1975. This commission was set up by President Gerald Ford to investigate the CIA's activities in the 1960s, when it allegedly conducted illegal domestic activities, such as experiments on US citizens and surveillance of American dissident groups. Chairman of this Commission was Nelson A. Rockefeller (1908-1979), Vice President under President Ford. When this report was released, many found it a "whitewash." However, over forty years later, in February 2016, The Rockefeller Commission Report suddenly became hot news when it became known that the Ford White House had altered the final Rockefeller Commission report and had removed an entire section on CIA assassination plots of foreign leaders, such as on Cuban President Fidel Castro, Congolese Prime Minister Patrice Lumumba, and President Sukarno of Indonesia (this section is re-inserted in this publication). It turned out that White House staff, including then-deputy assistant to the President, Richard Cheney (who later became Vice President under President George W. Bush), had edited this report, making it effectively no longer an independent investigation. This saga shows how government reports can regain historical importance and that in the end, no one can outrun the truth. Students of intelligence gathering, politicians, journalists, and anyone interested in the history of the CIA and US national security will find this vital background reading.

An intelligence support document that, while openly available for public consumption, is typically ignored by even engaged citizens, this will fascinate and enlighten readers interested in the armed forces, global geopolitics, and modern asymmetrical warfare. The U.S. ARMY TRAINING AND DOCTRINE COMMAND, also known as TRADOC, was founded in 1973, to train the soldiers and civilian leaders of the U.S. Army, to develop operational policy, and to anticipate future operational needs of the Army.

"...We have what is known as the Federal Reserve Bank System. That system is not owned by the Government. Many people think that it is, because it says 'Federal Reserve'. It belongs to the private banks, private corporations. So we have farmed out to the Federal Reserve Banking System that is owned exclusively, wholly, 100 percent by the private banks --we have farmed out to them the privilege of issuing the Government's money. If we were to take this privilege back from them, we could save the amount of money that I have indicated in enormous interest charges." --Wright Patman, Democratic representative from Texas The above quote was from a 1941 speech by U.S. congressman Wright Patman, a fierce critic of the Federal Reserve. A Primer on Money, released in 1964 by the Congressional Subcommittee on domestic finance, explains in Patman's introduction "in simple, everyday language how the US monetary system works and indicates where it needs reform." It describes specifically: - What is money? - How is money created? - The role of the Federal Reserve System - Money supply and Monetary policy - Improvements in the Money SystemAlthough this publication is over fifty years old and changes have been made to the Federal Reserve System since then, it is a testament to Patman's insights that this report is still relevant and important to today's discussion about the role of the Federal Reserve in the U.S. economy. This report is essential reading for students of monetary policy, academics, policymakers, journalists, and anyone interested in learning about the basics of money and the Federal Reserve.

"The improvement of medical education cannot therefore be resisted on the ground that it will destroy schools and restrict output: that is precisely what is needed."-Abraham Flexner, The Flexner Report (1910)The Flexner Report-Medical Education in the United States and Canada (1910) by Abraham Flexner is the foundation for medical education today. The report was developed to investigate American medical schools and provide standards for them since few guidelines were in place in the early twentieth century. The American Medical Association contracted with the Carnegie Foundation to conduct the study and chose an educator, Flexner, as its leader. The author personally visited over 150 medical institutions and, in some cases, harshly described the conditions which consequently forced the closure of numerous schools. This book-length report is an intriguing read for anyone curious about the foundations of medical education.

"I am 90 per cent sure that many of the thousands of unidentified flying objects, or UFOs, recorded since the 1940s, belong to visitors from other planets."-Edgar D. Mitchell, Apollo 14 astronaut and moonwalker (1998)Flying Saucers, UFOs or UAP is a compilation of two historical reports: The Durant Report of the Robertson Panel Proceedings (1953) by the CIA and Preliminary Assessment: Unidentified Aerial Phenomena (2021) a long-anticipated report by the Director of National Intelligence. While these reports offer the official US government's explanation of UFOs during two different time periods-almost seventy years apart, they are strikingly similar in their conclusions, which are almost interchangeable. What is evident in the evolution of the terminology used over time-flying saucer, unidentified flying objects (UFO), unidentified aerial phenomena (UAP)-is that those who report on this topic continue to broaden their view on this area of study. However, the lack of groundbreaking discoveries in these reports continues to raise the question of what is not being reported.Students of national security, journalists and anyone interested in UFOs, will find this publication fascinating reading.

"[The contents of this report] should fundamentally change the way you view Benghazi." --Trey Gowdy, Committee Chairman, June, 2016On September 11, 2012, an attack occurred against two US government facilities in Benghazi, Libya. As a result of these attacks, the US Ambassador to Libya, J. Christopher Stevens, died (the first US ambassador killed since 1979), as well as three other Americans. Controversy arose about whether the attacks were committed spontaneously or were premeditated, and whether the US government's response was adequate.Ten investigations followed into whether high-ranking US government officials, including Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, had acted improperly. The most important investigation was handled by the Republican-controlled US House Select Committee on Events Surrounding the 2012 Terrorist Attack in Benghazi. It issued nearly 1,000 pages in The Benghazi Report--with Additional and Minority Views in June 2016 and criticized the Obama Administration's handling of the attacks. It concluded that the State Department failed to protect US diplomats in Libya. Clinton, who at the time of the release of this report was the Democratic presidential candidate dismissed the findings of this report as did the Democrats on the House Select Committee in their minority report, included in the report.
