The book ""Environment as Capsule"" is witty informal approach to describe what's happened, is happening, and will happen to the environment. It captures your interest with a revolutionary new approach to understand the environmental science. Some realistic case studies, experiences woven throughout each chapter, uses real-life stories to give you a tangible and engaging framework around which to learn and understand the science behind environmental issues. This book gives us a chance to learn about the stories that go along with all that is going on in our world, pollution, destruction, global warming, or better phrased as climate change. It encompasses the thoroughly expressed information about The Panchatatvas; from the source to finish, but there is a part of it we know so little about. This book is a good read for those who want to know more about our environment and what we and they can do to change, protect and use it wisely by learning it through informal ways. Highly recommended for anyone interested in the world we live in. It inspires all of us to take actions however small to decelerate the destruction to mother earth that human beings have been doing. Environment as Capsule is an excellent overview of the science of the environment, the history of human development and its environmental consequences, and the challenges of environmental policy. A quick read as it delves into material and biotic factors that explain the dynamics of environment. This book explains very scary the issues of disposal of trash, the scarcity of water, the level of pollution in our atmosphere, and how little consideration we have for saving the planet, or thinking about our next generation. Very sobering!

'Climate Change' is a matter of great concern at the global level since it is leading to causing weather-related disasters and in making communities more vulnerable to the effects of disasters. There is need for disaster mitigation measures to reduce or if possible, totally eliminate the impacts and risks of hazards through proactive measures taken before an emergency or disaster occurs. For alleviating the risk of disaster due to severe climate events, there has been a growing need for a concrete platform to educate and train the individuals and entities in the developing world and network with them to act beyond the disaster management policies. Keeping this in view, the NAM S&T Centre in partnership with the National Science & Technology Commission (NASTEC) of Sri Lanka organised an international workshop on 'Mitigation of Disasters due to Severe Climate Events: From Policy to Practice' in Colombo, Sri Lanka during 10-13 March 2016. The workshop was attended by 64 senior professionals from 19 countries - Cambodia, Egypt, Hungary, India, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Mauritius, Myanmar, Nepal, Nigeria, Pakistan, Palestine, Thailand, Uganda, Venezuela, Zambia and Zimbabwe, and the host country Sri Lanka for sharing views and experiences for the development of a road map for reducing the risks in real situations. The present book edited by Prof. Joaquin Alejandro Linayo Rivero, Prof. Jayant K. Routray and Prof. Biswajeet Pradhan is a follow up of the Colombo Workshop comprising 17 scientific and technical papers contributed by the experts from 15 countries. The book is expected to be useful to all those associated with mitigation of disasters due to severe climate events, from researchers to policy makers, non government organisations and government officials in the developing countries.

The present book opens its contents with the introductory ideas about the earth's crust, rocks, minerals and soils, along with the weathering sequence and stability of the silicate minerals; soil colloids, covering the structural aspects and properties; ion-exchange processes in soil, including the theories - both thermodynamic and kinetic as well as others - and practices, and also the implications of such processes in soil; chemistry of soil acidity and salt-affected soils and their amelioration; soil organic matter, including its chemistry, influence on soil properties, metal-humic interactions and clay-humus complex; chemistry of phosphorus, including the thermodynamic and kinetic aspects as well as its availability in soil as plant nutrient; chemistry of micronutrients in soil; chemistry of waterlogged soils; transport processes in soil, covering self- and tracer-diffusion of nutrients in soil, isothermal and thermal diffusion of water and solutes in soil, and also the isothermal coupled transport of aqueous solutes in soils and clays; and finally the issues relating to environmental soil chemistry, their impact and appropriate remediation measures. The emphasis throughout the book has been to relate the underlying soil processes to the concepts in basic sciences. Indeed, keeping in view the requirement of the beginners as well as the advanced students, there appears to be a genuine need of a textbook on the subject of Soil Chemistry which, while starting from the basic principles, would go to more intricate treatments to facilitate the understanding of the nature of the chemistry of a multi-phase and complex natural resource, namely soil. The author has made an attempt to bridge this gap. The book is written to address the requirement of the course curricula in soil chemistry for the post-graduate and Ph.D. students, notwithstanding the fact that it also caters the need of the undergraduate students, studying soil science as a part of their undergraduate course curricula.

The interest of man in nature goes back to his own origin and history. From stone stage to modern atomic age, there has been a drastic change in the demands of man from the nature ranging from food and shelter to timber, fuel, medicines, pulp and a variety of other products. A sudden explosion in human population and multifarious need of man has put the existence of natural resources to a stake. Majority of original natural resources have been reducing to secondary resources with low productivity hence the extent of wild area is also decreased significantly. Earth is the only place in the universe known to sustain life. Humanity's relationship with the biosphere will continue to deteriorate until a new international economic order is achieved, a new environmental ethic adopted, human populations stabilize, and sustainable modes of development become the rule rather than the exception. Among the prerequisites for sustainable development is the conservation of living resources. the management of human use of the biosphere so that it may yield the greatest sustainable benefit to present generations while maintaining its potential to meet the needs and aspirations of future generations. Thus conservation is positive, embracing preservation, maintenance, sustainable utilization, restoration, and enhancement of the natural environment. Living resource conservation is specifically concerned with plants, animals and microorganisms, and with those non-living elements of the environment on which they depend. Living resources have two important properties, the combination of which distinguishes them from non-living resources: they are renewable if conserved; and they are destructible if not.

Haemoprotozoan parasitic diseases remains one of the major hurdles for raising livestock profitability. The trypanosomes were first isolated from animals in undivided India. After independence, with the introduction of cross breeding programme throughout the country, the prevalence of haemoprotozoan parasitic diseases especially theileriosis, babesiosis and anaplasmosis in bovines increased significantly and drew attention of policy makers. Since then the haemoprotozoan diseases in animals are considered as important diseases and needs a special care for their control. Being transmitted by vectors very often such parasites remain refractory to the conventional control measures. Moreover the tropical climate prevailing in the country let both vectors and parasites to propagate abundantly. In this book we tried to describe the details of various diagnostic procedures for early detection, treatment and as well as control and preventive measures. We hope this book will be useful to field veterinarians, Veterinary graduate and post-graduate students and others related to Animal Husbandry activities.
