Social Science Research in Conflict Zones: A Monograph on Fieldwork in Kashmir is a methodological work based on the issues and challenges of doing field work in conflict zones based on author¿s field work experiences and his study on the researchers researching in conflict zones.Though a rich body of work exists on dangerous research but researchers have so far questioned conflict or highlighted the dangers of doing research in such perilous conditions. However the very authenticity and credibility of researches has hardly been questioned or doubted so far which has led to false generalizations and wrong theory building. This work is based on such an untouched theme which calls for a total rethink on methodology of research in conflict zones. The researcher enters the field, conducts research and believes all data as valid & scientific but hardly realizes that the field is a field of illusion, the rapport built is actually a fake rapport and the respondents are fake, irritated and erratic. Therefore we need a new design on conceptualizing the problems of fieldwork in conflict ridden areas and there has to be a difference in methodology for conflict and other peaceful zones.
NOTES TO BRIAN: ON COMING OF AGE IN THE NEW MILLENNIUM offers a sociological interpretation of the evolution of an American boy between 1999-2017. It highlights his progression from birth, through early childhood & adolescence, and into adulthood. It celebrates the meaning of life's daily routines by providing context for what they represent within the larger panorama of living. The reader can follow Brian's development with the understanding that Brian's story captures a point in time within American culture. That point in time reflects the blessings, challenges, celebrations, heartaches, anger, & frustrations inherit in the loving relationship between father and son. It unblinkingly addresses the wide range of emotions associated with family relations, socioeconomic class, peer influences, spirituality, maturation, social indoctrination, divorce, materialism and what it means to be human. It offers lessons from the past, insights about the present and hope for the future.
This report provides cultural framing for the 20th century Schnell family of Gahanna (Columbus), Ohio in the United States. A historical context is detailed whereby elements and dynamics associated with family life are conveyed. A wide range of variables, associated with family life of that period, are listed and illustrated. The reader can see how a period in time is captured and, from this depiction, gain an understanding for how the evolving American culture offers a myriad of sociological factors for consideration having to do with various social institutions. Such social institutions include, but are not limited to, the family, church, education, community, politics, death, marriage, gender roles, sexuality and, ultimately, what it means to be human. During the period of analysis, the community of Gahanna, Ohio evolves from isolated small town to thriving suburb of Columbus. This evolution played out in similar fashion, with other small towns, across the United States during the 20th century. The life of the author is used as illustration for representative reporting.
In light of the mechanics of the major election systems and their effects, we analyze how plurality rule has produced a two-party system on the Island and propose the preferential vote model to enable wider participation by the political actors as well as to enhance the public debate dynamics. While acknowledging that election reform is rare once a system has been established, the article seeks to circumvent resistance by avoiding a zero-sum analysis to reform and incorporating the winning political actors under the current system by presenting how a preferential vote scheme can also benefit them. In order to explore the elements necessary to trigger reform, we present an analysis of how Australia and New Zealand, two advanced democratic countries shifted from one election system to another and the reasons for reform as well as its consequences. If Puerto Rico is to pursue reform, proponents must understand the stakes of those winning under the current system and coin a platform capable of enhancing the democratic process by creating new spaces for debate and political representation while incorporating those who fear reform will lead them towards a path of power dilution.
Although internet is among the major inventions of the 20th century, robotics has become the focus of attention. Robots are no longer science fiction. In fact, they are already among us today though certainly less present in Tunisia than in China, Japan or South Korea. Robotics is a new frontier and may become the next industrial revolution by 2020. Since the beginning of the 21st century, the use of artificial intelligence has brought significant changes to robot services. With the increasing development of these autonomous and interactive robots, a real need to control this new technology has emerged. In fact, organizations and institutions have been working for several years now in this area. To date, there is no Tunisian law on robots. However some legislation specific to the protection of individuals may apply to some robots. To date, there is no legal category for ¿robot¿ and there is no real legislative framework of robotics in Tunisia. Nevertheless, many dispersed legal tools allow putting a frame for robots and more broadly for robotics. We find these tools in different branches of law: contract law, consumer law, intellectual property law, Data Privacy, etc...
The Indo-Pacific region stretches from the eastern shores of Africa and West Asia to the littoral countries of the western Pacific. The region constitutes the ¿maritime underbelly¿ of Asia, and is the fastest growing region in the world; and in a few decades, is likely to witness what may be referred to as ¿Renaissance 2.0¿. The region is, therefore, ripe with enormous opportunities, not only for regional countries, but also for the rest of the global community. And yet, the region is beset with equally colossal security risks that emanate from inter alia the rise of China - that is not satisfied with ¿status quö in the global order including established international law and norms; strategic rivalries and the attendant security dilemma and arms race; issues of governance including maritime jurisdictions; the proliferation of malevolent non-state actors involved in maritime crimes and terrorism; and so on. The book is a collation of commentaries that analyse the trends with regard to the geopolitical and maritime security environment, along with the naval developments, in the Indo-Pacific in the past half-decade or so.
The Book Trump Vs Biden: The Triumph of Trumpism argues that alas President Joe Biden may not make much difference in American politics because he is out to rubbish his predecessor without taking a deep look at Donald Trump¿s policies. Yet, many of what Joe Biden is doing have the footprints of Donald Trump. Four key themes were used here for the comparison, as follows: (1) the counter-COVID strategy/ efforts; (2) the US withdrawal from Afghanistan; (3) the immigrants¿ challenge; and (4) foreign policy doctrine. Generally, it is submitted here that despite some mistakes, President Donald Trump made efforts to do well on all four themes, and so far President Biden is building on the foundations laid by the Trump presidency, and not adopting strategies/ approaches that are significantly different. The Triumph of Trumpism argues that ultimately the Biden-Harris presidency may barely recycle Trump's strategies, with very minor variations.
