  • - The Final Stage in Recovery from Sexual Abuse
    af Rachel Grant
    149,95 - 234,95 kr.

In the world of recovery, there has been a shift from using the word victim to survivor when describing those who have been abused. This new label conveys strength to empower and embolden you as you begin the journey of recovery. While moving from victim to survivor is an important step in the healing process, it does not go far enough in framing an identity that leads to letting go of the pain of abuse and finally moving on. In Beyond Surviving, author Rachel Grant, a Sexual Abuse Recovery Coach, provides an understanding of the three stages of recovery: victim, survivor, and beyond surviving - and offers survivors guidance and tools for empowerment and healing. Based on cognitive behavioral techniques, neurological science, the power of language to heal, and Grant's personal journey, Beyond Surviving teaches you how to actively challenge and break the patterns of thought and behavior that result from sexual abuse. It explores how different areas of life are impacted by abuse and communicates valuable skills for gaining a new perspective that inspires action and change. It provides an opportunity to reflect and practice these new skills through exercises and assignments. Beyond Surviving enables survivors of sexual abuse to take back their rights and realize their own ability to make powerful choices about who they are and how they live. This guidebook offers an opportunity to reach the final stage of recovery and begin living authentically and free from the burdens of past experiences. Trauma is NOT a life sentence.

The year was 1942. That spring Lt. Ryan Benson had been given the assignment to build the curved wooden bridge over the Kiskatinaw River. The U.S. Army was building the Alaska Highway from Dawson Creek, B.C. Canada, to Alaska through some 1500 miles of wilderness. Ryan's job with his command was to build the first major bridge or obstacle before the rest of the highway could go forward. The Allies needed an overland route to Alaska to ward off the threat of an Alaskan invasion by the Japanese during WWII. It would be one of the greatest single engineering feats in the modern era, utilizing the heroic efforts of more than 11,000 men and their equipment under the most extreme weather conditions. Jenny Iverson was a nursing student from Washington State University that had run out of money to pursue her education. An invitation from her Uncle Lenny to come to a work camp at the Kiskatinaw in Canada to earn some money was too good of an offer to pass up for the adventurous young woman. This was going to be so much fun, she thought. How did she know that she would become involved with another side of the dangerous world of war time problems and with a sinister plot against her? How would she survive the death of her fiancé and the loss of her job with the whole town of Dawson Creek blowing up around her? This perceived romantic adventure would change her life forever. In the current day, Edward and Sara Toolson owned a large ranch in Rolla, B.C. that was having financial problems. It was apparent that the Toolson's would lose their farm without a miracle that could somehow save them. A family journal from 1942 provided the miracle, but only after a continuation of a 1942 sinister plot, and the cost of human life.

Deborah Ann Pollard married our boy. The wedding was held in the clubhouse of the apartment house complex where the boy lived at the moment. It was held there because the church as the religious entity it was, would not allow the wedding to take place on its hollowed grounds, because of the boy's past marital history.Religion had determined, it just could not sanction the union. The ceremony, however, was conducted by two ministers associated with the church. Strange indeed. The story of Debbie, as she is known, is told in another volume titled "I Ain't in Kansas No More', so it won't be retold here. Friend's of the couple, at the time of the marriage, declared strongly and often, that it would not last. Who knows? They may be correct. It has only been a little over thirty nine years now and its not over yet. Anything could happen. To quote Debbie, "I may not be the first or even the second but I hold the record." I as the author. and the second half of this union, am required by all good consciousness to state here and now my life has forever been the better because of Debbie. However, she most certainly has deserved more than she has received. She certainly got the short end of the stick. as the saying goes. That is when she married me, she deserved better than she got!

  • af Elizabeth Antonova
    163,95 - 242,95 kr.

This book, written by my Mother, is a factual account of what happened to her aristocratic family when the Bolsheviks seized power in the October Revolution of 1.917. Every word spoken at the time was recorded in my mothers diary. The reader will soon understand how vital her survival depended on what was said - to and by - her, and the words quoted as direct discourse are as nearly as possible a faithful account of her experience during that horrific, outrageous period in Russian history. Elizabeth Antonova and her family were all too obvious a target. for the paranoid, xenophobic, and culture hating Revolutionaries. Her lonely, deprived months in prison were punctuated by relentless interrogations by devious, brutal inquisitors. tinder great psychological and physical duress she withstood her persecutors by adamantly insisting on her innocence, and finally - at long last - she triumphed.Although Elizabeth Antonova's tile contains much suffering and sadness, the book is an exhilarating read, affording the privilege of intimacy with a wonderful writer and courageous woman who embodies the nobility of the human spirit. I am so very proud of her.

The decisions we take at every crossroad in our lives shape our destiny. Egypt, after the Second World War, was torn between the East and West. Occupied by the British and ruled by a corrupt King, it was inevitable that by 1952 the country would be convulsed by a military revolution. We follow four young people born during the occupation and learn how their lives and loves intertwine with the political events of their country. Nadia lives a western lifestyle but suffers the intellectual and physical repressions imposed upon her by a conservative Moslem father. Melanie, whose mother is British, enjoys the semblance of a free and emancipated life in a world that never completely accepts her. Sammy, brought up in England, is still a product of the Middle East. He succeeds in escaping from the political restrictions of the military regime, but cannot escape his macho culture. Hassan is the victim of his ideals. His belief in the revolution is shattered when he perceives the corruption of the new government and when the Egyptian Army is defeated in the Suez Canal War. Through the adventure, romance, joy, and tragedy of our four protagonists, we get a glimpse of life in the Middle East in the fifties and sixties.

In this writing, you will find the life story of one army aviator from high school to retirement. It begins with a young Iowa farm boy searching for a career field and finding a lifelong association with the U S Army Aviation Branch. I had the opportunity to get into the farming business with my father, but finding all the hard work that is involved, I decided to enlist in the army and attend the flight training program, and work at a career in aviation. This life story begins with enlistment, basic training, flight school, and a life in the flying world. It covers two deployments to Vietnam, each was one year in length, a segment with the Iowa and Alabama Army National Guard, and sixteen years of being stationed at the home of army aviation, Fort Rucker, Alabama. I was a ground and flight simulator instructor for a civilian contractor, Flight Safety International, following my retirement from the military. I also worked with a FAR part 135 Charter company in Iowa. With that company I flew Piper Azetec, Navaho, Cessna 182, 210, 340, 402, and 414. I also flew a Skymaster part-time. I was assigned duties as chief pilot for them. My last assignment was with Simcom Training Centers in Scottsdale, Arizona; Miami, Florida; and Orlando, Florida. While I worked with them, I had duties of ground, flight simulator, and aircraft flight instruction. I was also selected as assistant training center manager, ultimately ending up my career as the director of business of Jet Training in Miami, Florida. Simcom was a FAR Part 142 Training Center. After leaving them in 2002, I moved to Iowa for a life of retired living. Some of the photos have dates of 2015 on them. This was when I made copies of the originals. All the dates, places, and facts are accurate, to the best of my memory.
