While many books have been written about investing, few contain the essential information needed to make truly informative decisions. Working with people for over three decades as both personal advisor and professional financial instructor at local colleges, my passion for imparting basic financial knowledge has only grown. Once people gain a clear understanding of timeless financial concepts, they are empowered to live a life of greater abundance with less fear and stress. This typically results in a better overall quality of life, fewer divorces and less reliance on government. My hope is that the time I have spent writing this book will provide you with knowledge you can use to improve your finances, grow your self-confidence and liberate your life in the years ahead. What can happen when an 80-year-old Dallas widower meets an 80-year-old Austin widow and they discover they have a lot in common? Several things, one right after another. They start emailing and texting each other, telling each other their stories from eight decades of living apart; then, in a matter of weeks, deciding to get married, and, soon after, resolving to tell a broader audience the stories they had been telling each other. Front and center is their courtship experience itself told through their emails, combined with Charles and Nancy's separate accounts of growing up. Charles details his parents' attempts to polish him and wise him up about sex; his efforts to combat his social anxiety; stories about lassos, bullwhips, and crossbows; one disastrous bridge game and a biology science project gone wrong; and tortured therapeutic sessions with pediatric nurses, orthodontists, and dermatologists. Nancy's separately chronicles her efforts competing at tennis, swimming, and singing; relationships that went nowhere; days as a civil rights protester; moments as a college prankster; slow-dancing with a boy wearing contact lenses; the family dog that ate a chicken; and her adventure at the laundromat. Finally, for those who are really thinking things over, wondering about the hereafter, a sobering fantasy of a final judgment day concludes this memoir. Charles Francis Guittard is retired trial attorney and mediator; teacher, coach, and trainer; and author of I WILL TEACH HISTORY, The Life & Times of Francis Gevrier Guittard, the 3rd volume of a trilogy chronicling the life of a long-time professor of history at Baylor University. memoir, late-life romance, 1950s, teenagers growing up, orthodontists, dance lessons, bridge games, tennis competitions, scouts, high school debate, sex education
For two years, I was a personal advisor to Dr. Otto Arosemena Gomez, President of Ecuador. During my tenure, I had the opportunity to interview an elderly man who was one of the original owners of a tea plantation not too far from Quito. The estate was established thirty years before our meeting. We discussed an authentic life experience, including one of my main characters, Sister Annett, who was the youngest of three nuns selected by the Catholic Church in Paris for an exchange program that brought her to Ecuador. Sister Annett is referred to as the Goddess of the Stars in the manuscript. In real life, she had no initial desire to become a nun. However, after the demise of her mother, she looked for comforting solace from her Parish Priest. She past many months mourning the memory of her mother. Without warning, Annett decided to become a nun. Her dispute with the church involved asking too many questions which was forbidden by the vows taken at the beginning of her religious experience. Being very young and beautiful, upon arrival in Ecuador, she could not understand why there was so much poverty in this country when the Church was financially sound. The storyline captivates her innocence and desire to convince the Cardinal, Bishop, and Mother Superior to use Church funds in the education of the Ecuadorian population. This would entail reading and writing, establishing small businesses to feed their families, and, in return, generating financial support for the Church. That suggestion fell on deaf ears. In the story, the three nuns, and priest, act as missionaries in the jungles of the Republic. The book's adventure, for the most part, is a reflection of myself as the author. They encounter natives, both peaceful and hostile, including discovering a lost tribe of the Peruvian Inca. I invite the reader to sit back, relax, and enjoy reading this exceptional experience about an insight into life. I guarantee that all those who are captivated by intrigue, love and war will not be disappointed.
Ted Buckley has spent his career helping people plan financially for retirement. But retirement is about much more than money. That's why in "Retired! What Do You Want to Do for the Next 30 Years?", Ted covers everything about retirement except the money. Once you've got your money on the right trajectory, it's the day-to-day aspects of retirement that you need to work on. Even if you are single, divorced, or widowed, you'll find ideas that will change your retirement years for the better. You (and your partner) will: ¿ Learn what drives you and your personality, behaviors, and core values. ¿ Develop a purposeful Personal Bucket list that will endure and be revised throughout retirement. ¿ Gain an understanding of a deeper connection to your partner through fun couples and individual workbook exercises. ¿ Understand why having OUR lane, THEIR lane, and MY lane activities makes your retirement journey more satisfying. ¿ Develop strategies to realize the 5 phases of retirement to be as connected and active as you want to be. ¿ Learn how to plan ahead to avoid one of the major crises facing seniors, "loneliness as you age!"As a dedicated financial advisor, Ted Buckley was often asked by retiring clients to recommend books on the HOW-TO part of retirement. He never found one that he thought offered enough helpful information. So instead of recommending sub-par books, Ted decided there was a huge need to write a comprehensive guidebook to help people get mentally ready to enjoy retirement to the fullest and have the time of their lives. This book is not about the money. It's all about being happy in Retirement!Retirement, Retired, Financial Planning, Investing, Hobbies, Bucket List, Goals, Widow, Divorced, Social Security, Pension, Insurance, Long Term Care, Money

When Ben Hunnicutt decides to hike the Resurrection River trail to Seward, Alaska, he doesn't know that a gang of inept bank robbers robbed a bank in Seward and are escaping on that very trail. When they meet in the wilderness, the trail becomes a battleground, a duffle bag crammed with banknotes, the prize. When two attractive lady tourists are taken hostage by the gang, Ben's problems escalate.DON NEAL, author of the Ben Hunnicutt novels, is a retired soldier. Reared in Suffolk and in Surry County, in southern Virginia, he dropped out of the College of William and Mary and enlisted in the Army during the Korean War. The fourth book in the Ben Hunnicutt series, "The Last Kill", Ben has left Alaska and "Operation Washtub" to continue his interrupted journey to the battlefields of Korea. It is 1953; both sides have emerged from a frigid winter of slugging it out on a line near the 38th parallel while endless peace negotiations drone on at a small camp at Panmunjom. Ben sees his fair share of battle, broken by a brief interlude in Japan which plays an important part in his later life. A wound sends him back to the States just as the war ends in July 1953, and he serves out the remainder of his twenty years never having the good fortune to be again assigned to Alaska. Upon retirement in 1967 he keeps a promise to himself and moves to Anchorage, at last able to explore the state which so fascinated him on his first visit. In 1972, retired and at leisure, he is mysteriously contacted by an intelligence officer that he befriended while on R & R in Japan during the Korean War. The Vietnam War is in full swing, and the stability of the South Vietnamese government is being threatened by a large-scale sacking of the nation's treasury. The stolen gold is apparently being smuggled to mining operations in Alaska where it is "laundered" and converted to cash. Ben is asked to ferret out the rogue miners so the government can move in and return the looted gold to the treasury of South Vietnam. As usual, the task is more complex and more dangerous than it seems. Ben must call on some of his offbeat friends to see him through. I own a small town bar and grill in the heart of Nowhere, Texas. My name is Mac McIntyre. My bar and I play host to the numerous characters passing through.First there's Hank, a well-known country and western star, who employs Jerry, a highly skilled and just as highly paid chauffeur. I've always wondered why a chauffeur would study Zen philosophy and every form of martial arts, but then again, I guess it's none of my business. Then there's Hank's sister, Sam, who just moved in, much to the disdain of Noreen, the resident air-head with a knack for sleeping around and hating girls prettier than her. Of course, I have no complaints against Sam, I owed Hank one. Besides, it's been a while and I needed a new waitress anyway, not that I'm trying anything. And Juan, the young boy living just over the border, can't be here every day to help. His English isn't even that great. Then there are the rest of the residents of my bar here at the crossroads, all just trying to enjoy a drink without having to kill each other, or maybe just Noreen, first.I've already been to Vietnam. I don't want to fight in any other wars.Author Bio: I was born in West Palm Beach in the same hospital six years after Burt Reynolds. Raised in Miami until I was 18, I then relocated to Cape Canaveral in '61-62. I studied engineering, but became an entertainer during the folk music craze. I don't know how, but the Original Seven astronauts sort of adopted me and before I knew it, I was an entertainer for the next 25 years. No matter where I was singing, my boss would receive a call from one of the astronauts to let me off long enough to be booked into the Cocoa Beach Ramada Inn lounge, where I appeared for every flight from Mercury through the last Apollo mission.I've lived in Los Angeles for almost 20 years, while on the road most of that time, and played in clubs from San Diego to Prince Albert, Sask. Canada (in the dead of winter, I might add.)I've been married 27 years and now reside in my husband's hometown of Jackson, Ms.keywords: Ghost Town, Saloon, Old West Opera House, Harley Davidson, Mystery, Love Story Texas, Dallas, Country Entertainer, Country Music
