Whoever you may be or whether you read its pages in search of Baptist truths, or simply as a critic, or as a confiding General Baptist, you are kindly asked to remember that it is the first effort of the author, Rev. D. B. Montgomery.Indeed that part of the work written by him is in fact the first history of the liberal or open Communion Baptists, located in the South and West of the American States.
For 64 years I have been preaching the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. In the beginning days my sermons where short because I knew very little about the Bible at that time. My first college, Hendrix College, a United Methodist college, Dr. James Upton who was not only my mentor but professor in my Pulpit Speaking and Homiletic classes, taught me how to manuscript sermons. This was probably one of the best things I ever did in sermon preparation. It helped me to organize the thoughts that God had directed me to in studying His word and in the presentation. And Free Will Baptists, whose love for the Scriptures of our Lord, taught me how to present God's love in what is preached. With time, my sermons were less manuscript and more built around an outline, chosen words that I wanted to emphasize, in the alliteration of the message, or the use of acrostics which only Age and experience could bring.Contained in this book are representations of these various styles to those of you who have asked for my sermon outlines. I do hope you enjoy them as much as I have enjoyed preaching them.

This book is a compilation of the responses I received from a poll sent, and from many files of material in my computer obtained over many years. For years I have compiled research from men, namely; Dr. Stan Toler, Dr. John Maxwell, Dr. Gary McIntosh, Charles Arn, Win Arn, Dr. Thom Rainer, Dr. Elmer towns, Lyle Schaller, Dr. Kenneth Gangel, Dr. Lawrence Richards and noted pollsters George Barna, George Gallup and David Kinnaman. I hope I have given credit property to those that I have included and regret that I did not know the sources of all my material. Much of my material came from individuals and denominations which I felt would be beneficial in improving the Sunday school and church life. Likewise, the material may appear repetitious at times, but was necessary to include at that point to give credence to the subject at hand. Most of material has no need for explanations so you can draw your conclusions and make it applicable to your situation whether your church is small or large, country, urban or city.

Holiness Demanded focuses on the holiness of the God in the Bible, His primary Attribute and His heart's desire for His people. From that foundation, "Preacher" Burden addresses a number of issues which were considered standards of Christians in the past, but are largely ignored today. From the Scriptures, history, and his six decades in the ministry, he passionately pleads for the church to once again become a holy band..
In my thirty years of pastoring I have encountered a myriad of problems, met lots of good - and bad - people, and do know that I wish I had known when I began at my first pastorate what I know now. It would have made my journey easier. It is for that reason I write this. Perhaps it will assist some pastoral candidate and maybe some church from experiencing unnecessary problems. I fully believe both ministers and churches want to do the right thing. Doing the right thing has to start somewhere. That's where we begin.
Alton Loveless knows books and he knows how to write. With his rich history as a seminar speaker and later as the President of Randall House Publications, his life has been immersed with the printed page. In reflection, I sat at his feet many times and listened to him describe books that he had read. Often as John C. Maxwell and I would sit and talk with Alton, he would hold up a book by R.G. Lee or Warren Wiersbe and with a twinkle in his eye and passion in his voice, he would declare, "this is the best book I have ever read and you boys need to read it." I still treasure those books on my library shelf and thank God for the guidance and influence that Dr. Loveless had on my life and especially on John whose books have now sold over 20 million copies. These Memoirs by Alton Loveless will bless, encourage and inspire every reader to passionately pursue Christ and to read everything that has been written about our Lord and Savior. The life of Dr. Loveless has impacted many. This book is going to touch many lives and inspire someone just like me to understand that leaders are readers. Here's a book from a man of integrity whose walk matches his talk. He lives what he writes.-Dr. Stan Toler, Best-selling author
Great History of a relative unknown minister. The pastorate of the Roger Williams church in Providence became vacant soon after his resignation had been sent to the society at Olneyville. But not until final action by the latter, sundering the relationship which had subsisted' between them, wouldhe listen to any proposition fur his labors elsewhere; and after his pastorate had formally closed, private solicitations having reference to the Providence pastorate were met by little encouragement. While at Edinburgh he received a formal call to the Roger Williams church, with the privilege of a vacation of six months before he should assume its active duties. Accepting the call, he decided to devote three months to a European tour, and sailed from New York, June 24. Having visited England, Scotland, Germany, Switzerland and France, he reached home Sept. 23. Before going abroad he had become sufficiently strengthened to be able to enjoy with comparatively few physical hindrances, the taxation of strength, arisingfrom the experiences of a tourist. PROVIDENCE.1857 1866.

This edition has 1820 burial locations from 40 states and 3 foreign countries of the pioneer preachers of a old church organization-Free Will Baptists. It represents all sections of this active denomination as it met the challenges of its day. Whether in New England, where it contributed to the colleges and universities of the time, or sent those to the legislature to maintain the wishes of the founding fathers. Or in the south and west as the movement spread into the mountains and into the plains. This movement's history can be found in the biographies and burial histories in this book in the life of each minister. I have found the history of each minister fascinating. You will also. This book does not represent just the present National Association which was organized in 1935, but the Randall Movement (Northern) before and after the merger with the Northern Baptists in 1911. It includes The southern movement founded by Paul Palmer in North Carolina in 1727 and others that are part of the Free Will Baptist movement, but never were a part of the national convention or who existed prior or separate to it. Such as the Stone, John-Thomas, John Wheeler Associations, North Carolina OFWB and more. It contains hundreds of photos. The sources used for accumulating these hundreds of men and women; were found in graveyard records, county histories, church records, genealogies, biographies, Google research, and valuable denominational resource materials such as: Cyclopedia of Free Baptists, pub. 1889 by Burgess and Ward. But it is the product of hundreds of hours and the help of others to put this book together.
