    294,95 kr.

A massive collection of tattoo flash sketches from Mark and Vaughn Bode. The Big Book of Bode Tattoos features over 400 images spanning more than a decade of creation. Contained within this chunky brick of a book you'll find: voluptuous "Bode Broads," beloved characters from the Cheech Wizard comix, and Mark Bode's particular take on classic tattoo motifs, including dragons, fairies, demons, lions, butterflies and more. Bode's distinct style draws influence from the worlds of comic art, graffiti, and traditional tattooing. This confluence is often marked by bold, curvy outlines and clear shapes and forms. Mark Bode has been doing custom tattoo work on the human body for over 13 years, in addition to his phenomenal artwork on inanimate media. Bode's father is the late legendary cartoonist Vaughn Bode. Mark has inherited and kept alive his father's many characters, the most famous of which is Cheech Wizard.

Szukalski is now the subject of the critically acclaimed 2018 Netflix documentary Struggle: The Life and Lost Art of Szukalski directed by Irek Dobrowolski and produced by Leonardo DiCaprio.Extracts from the 39 volumes of my science "Zermatism," based on new interpretations of petroglyphic communications, in which will be revealed the most precedent-shattering and up-turning of all notions on our origins. Including samplings from Anthropolitical Motivations, The Deluged Gods, and Listen to These Stones Stanislav Szukalski (1893-1987) was a Polish-born sculptor, writer, graphic artist, and heretic. Highly regarded in both the US and Poland between the World Wars, he lapsed into obscurity, living and working in "America's Cultural Siberia" (Southern California) until comic art collector Glenn Bray rediscovered him in 1973. For forty years, Szukalski had developed his all-encompassing science "Zermatism" about the origin of Man, laid down in 39 heavily illustrated volumes with subjects such as "Universal Pictography," "The Flood Scumline," and "Anthropolitical Motivations." The work sets out to prove, among much else, that "Man-apes" make bad politicians, and that all Humanity stemmed from Easter Island, sharing a common protolanguage, "Protong" (bearing a striking resemblance to present-day Polish). Behold!!! The Protong, first published by Bray in 1980, was the first book in 50 years to bring Szukalski's work to the light of the American public. It is a modest selection from the thousands of drawings in the Zermatism oeuvre. The Work of Szukalski (Covici-McGee, 1923) and Projects in Design (University of Chicago Press, 1929) showed the young Szukalski's strength as artist-sculptor. This book combines those vitalities and steps beyond the accepted rules-for-artists in that it is divinely idiosyncratic and wholly unique.

Today, over 32 states have banned or severely restricted abortion. We're fighting back as best we can, with pens and brushes, paper and ink, and have produced a pro-choice anthology: Won't Back Down, featuring the work of over 30 artists, writers, inkers, and colorists, and we're giving the profits to Planned Parenthood. With Won't Back Down, Trina Robbins has created an important anthology that celebrates women who fight for justice - for anyone interested in women's rights, free speech, or simply great comics. In addition to Robbins, contributors to the anthology include Lee Marrs, Alison Sampson, Steve Leialoha, Ken Steacy, Barbara Randall Kesel, Yanick Paquette, Signe Wilkinson, Christopher Golden, Marguerite Sauvage, Gene Ha, Carrie Tupper, Todd Klein, Twyla Dawn Weixl, Sabrina Jones, Stephanie Cooke, Leeann Hamilton, Jennifer Camper, Sydney Heifler, Kate Charlesworth, Dave McCaig, Deanna Soukiasian, Grace Gordon, Joelle Barreto, Isabelle Struble, Grace Desmarais, Tony Parker, Bridgit Connell, Michelle Madsen, Janice Chiang, Jessica Balboni, Perl Barry, Jennifer Camper, Eve Furchgott, Sharon Rudahl, Dee Cunniffe, Sayra Begum, Sofie Dodgson, Robert Triptow, Lisa Sharkey, Wesley Wong, Dominike "Domo" Stanton, Tom Orzechowski, Emily Bowen Cohen, Amy Chase, Dani Coleman, and Rori!

  • - The History of the Mabuhay Gardens
    af Dirk Dirksen
    174,95 kr.

A autobiography of Dirk Dirksen and his rise as the promoter of the Mabuhay Gardens as told by Dirk Dirksen. Dirk Dirksen almost single-handedly made the early beginnings of Punk Rock possible in San Francisco, by providing an all-ages, low-admission-charge venue where anybody could play and almost nobody was rejected. He suffered 7 broken noses, a broken ankle, an above-elbow replacement and various internal injuries while fending off deluded humans who mistakenly equated "Punk Rock" with violence--a notion implanted by corporate media, the enemy of authentic cultural evolution everywhere. From 1974-1984 (or was it 1986?) Dirk curated thousands of shows at the Mabuhay Gardens, 443 Broadway, and the upstairs On Broadway Theater. This is Dirk Dirksen's story told to us by Dirk Dirksen and some of his friends, enemies, onlookers and assorted hangers on. Dirk was a multifaceted person. Stories by music critic Joel Selvin; Mabuhay owner Ness Aquino; Rolling Stone writer Michael Goldberg; poet Peter Urban; Ginger Coyote of Punk Globe; Jennifer Egan; Jennifer Blowdryer; artst Winston Smith; and many more from band members and attendees of the Mabuhay.

Cartoonist Keiji Nakazawa was seven years old and living in Hiroshima in the early days of August 1945 when the city was destroyed by an atomic bomb dropped by the United States. Starting a few months before that event, his ten-volume saga Barefoot Gen shows life in Japan after years of war and privations, as seen through the eyes of seven-year-old Gen Nakaoka. In Volume Nine, Gen continues to confront one setback after another -- the loss of his home, the death of a friend -- when a chance encounter gives new direction to his life. An impoverished but talented artist takes Gen under his wing and teaches him to paint. Inspired by the artists assertion that art has no borders, Gen vows to become an artist himself, and takes a job as apprentice to a local poster painter. Despite merciless bullying from his boss and the older apprentices, Gen perseveres in the pursuit of his new calling.

STATUS FACTORY is a hardcover art book presenting new paintings from street art legend Ron English. In his paintings, English perverts and subverts the establishment, poking fun at religion, consumerism, and blind obedience to popular culture. He uses humor as a wake-up call, and renders it with meticulous brush strokes. Ron English populates alternate versions of "The Last Supper" and "Guernica" with cartoon characters, drops camouflaged clowns on dinosaurs, and births incredible creatures from his fertile imagination. Among reinterpretations of familiar characters like Ronald McDonald and Mickey Mouse, you'll find three-eyed rabbits, udderly delicious cowgirls, grinning skulls, and many more. In addition to over 180 images from his paintings, Status Factory includes over 100 photographs of English's street art installations, subverted billboards, and other public art. An afterword by the artist delves into his creative process, explaining how source materials are transformed into his riveting images. Luxuriously printed on heavy art paper, this large-format coffee table book showcases Ron English's art beautifully. A great addition to any art library focused on street art, pop surrealism, graffiti, and painting.
