Butcher. All Greek characters are reproduced. Butcher's translation is one of the better, if not the best, translation of this important on literary theory. "Aristotle's Poetics" is the earliest-surviving work of dramatic theory and the first extant philosophical treatise to focus on literary theory. In it, Aristotle offers an account of what he calls "poetry" (a term which in Greek literally means "making" and in this context includes drama-comedy, tragedy, and the satyr play-as well as lyric poetry, epic poetry, and the dithyramb). He examines its "first principles" and identifies its genres and basic elements; his analysis of tragedy constitutes the core of the discussion.

"Three Essays on the Theory of Sexuality" was originally published by Freud in 1905 and reedited by him over the course of his life. The edition reprinted is the 1949 London Edition translated by James Strachey. In this work Freud advanced his theory of sexuality, in particular its relation to childhood. The three essays are "The Sexual Aberrations", "Infantile Sexuality" and "The Transformation of Puberty." In its final version, the "Three Essays" also included the concepts of "penis envy", "castration anxiety", and the "Oedipus complex".

Spencerian script is a script style based on Latin script that was used in the United States from approximately 1850 to 1925 and was considered the American de facto standard writing style for business correspondence prior to the widespread adoption of the typewriter.Platt Rogers Spencer, whose name the style bears, used various existing scripts as inspiration to develop a unique oval-based penmanship style that could be written very quickly and legibly to aid in matters of business correspondence as well as elegant personal letter-writing.Spencerian script was developed in 1840 and began soon after to be taught in the school Spencer established specifically for that purpose. He quickly turned-out graduates who left his school to start replicas of it abroad, and Spencerian Script thus began to reach the common schools. Spencer never saw the great success that his penmanship style enjoyed because he died in 1864, but his sons took upon themselves the mission of bringing their late father's dream to fruition.

Many African Americans have rejected the Christianity they associate with slaveowners in favor of religions with more distinctively black identities. Beginning in the early nineteenth century some individual African Americans became regular worshipers at local synagogues. To this day, and in growing numbers, there are Black members of predominantly white Jewish congregations. The first African American Jewish denomination was started by William Saunders Crowdy, a black cook for the Santa Fe railroad. In 1893, Crowdy had a vision from God calling him to lead his people to the true religion. He started preaching on the streets of Lawrence, Kansas in 1896. Crowdy preached that Africans were the descendants of the lost tribes of Israel and thus the true surviving Jews. By 1899, Crowdy had founded churches in 29 Kansas towns. He called his denomination The Church of God and Saints of Christ, which, despite its Christian-sounding name, had from the start an identification with Judaism. The Christ of the church's name refers to the still-awaited Messiah. Crowdy purchased land in Belleville, Virginia just after the turn of the century. For many years the core members of the church lived there communally. The Independent Church of God of the Juda tribe of Israel : the Black Jews is the manifesto and constitution of this Black Jewish Congregation.

Zen in the Art of Archery also relates to the "inner child" idea in humanistic psychology. This work most likely inspired the titles of many other works, either directly or indirectly. Foremost among these is Robert Pirsig's Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance. J. D. Salinger's fictional character Seymour Glass applied one aspect of Zen archery-aiming by deliberately not taking aim-to playing the children's game of marbles. The wider theme of many of these works is that a regular routine can have a spiritual dimension.

James Hudson Taylor was a British Protestant Christian missionary to China and founder of the China Inland Mission. Taylor spent 51 years in China. The society that he began was responsible for bringing over 800 missionaries to the country who began 125 school and directly resulted in 18,000 Christian conversions, as well as the establishment of more than 300 stations of work with more than 500 local helpers in all eighteen provinces.Hudson Taylor's Spiritual Secret is a spiritual biography of the "father of modern missions," that poses the question: "What empowered Hudson Taylor's ministry in China?" The Book of Dreams is a description of what Kerouac saw in his sleep as actual dreams, not his daydreams or waking reveries. The dreams are strung together in loose narrative form in an effort to convey their content to the reader. In the summer of 1869, John Muir, a young Scottish immigrant, joined a crew of shepherds in the foothills of California's Sierra Nevada Mountains. The diary he kept while tending sheep formed the heart of this book and was later published in 1911 in book form. My First Summer in the Sierra was written in the solitude of the great forests, on the summits of the lonely domes and peaks of the Sierra Mountains. The beauty and freshness of the mountains is wonderfully reflected in this book, which seems to hold within its pages all the brightness and sunny geniality of a Sierra morning warming towards noon. Aside from the enthusiasm for the new world opening before him, which is perhaps the dominant note of the book, one is struck chiefly by Mr. Muir's strong sense of the harmony and unity of Nature. This sensitive rendering of the natural landscape, occasionally poetic, has become a classic account in the ecological history of the United States.

Originally published as part of the Rosicrucian library Volume 5, this work is divided into 12 sections, and offers timeless advice on ethics, morality, man's duty to himself, his family and his society and his place in the universe. The book is thought by some to have been written by the Egyptian Pharaoh Amenhotep IV during the years 1360 to 1350 B.C. More commonly known as Akenaton, the pharaoh is generally credited as being the founder of the world's earliest monotheistic religion. The language is poetic and the advice is timeless. Written in a style similar to the biblical Book of Proverbs, "Unto The I Grant" uses vivid sayings so its counsel will be easily remembered when needed. The title-essay of this collection suggests Russell's lifelong preoccupation; the disentanglement, with ever-increasing precision, of what is subjective or intellectually cloudy from what is objective or capable of logical demonstration.
