2022 Reprint of the 1955 Edition. Exact facsimile of the original edition and not reproduced with Optical Recognition Software. This little work is an attempt to put in a brief compass all that St. Thomas wrote in the Theological Summa on the Sacrament of Love, and to make him more easily understood by those who are reading him for the first time. The explanation of philosophical terms in the general introduction is admirably brief and clear; the translation too is precise and clear-cut; and, perhaps most noticeable of all, Father O'Neill has had the courage to arrange the articles of St Thomas's Summa in a fashion we find easier to follow these days, that is to say, the body of the article is set out first and then the objections are taken and answered one by one. He selects for translation teachings on the matter and form of the sacrament, the meaning of transubstantiation, and the ministry and use of the sacrament. There are appendices on the nature of immolation in the Mass and notes on quantity, accidents, etc. Altogether this is a reasonably complete study of the doctrine of the Holy Eucharist which should be welcome to students and laymen of all ages, especially as it fits so easily into the pocket.Contents: On the sacrament of the Eucharist -- The matter of this sacrament -- The change of the bread and wine -- How Christ is in this sacrament -- How the accidents remain in the Eucharist -- The form of this blessed sacrament -- The effects of this sacrament -- The use of this sacrament -- How Christ used the sacrament at its institution -- The minister of this sacrament -- The rite of this sacrament -- Appendix I: Was the passion itself a complete sacrifice? -- Appendix II: Is there a real immolation in the mass? -- Appendix III: Man's fall and exaltation -- Appendix IV: Quantity, materia signata, etc. -- Appendix V: Accidents, substance, etc.
2020 Reprint of 1926 Editions. Full facsimile of the original editions and not reproduced with Optical Recognition software. This edition includes two titles published into one bound volume. Rutherford Hayes Platt, in the preface to his 1963 reprint of this work, states: "First issued in 1926, this is the most popular collection of apocryphal and pseudepigraphal literature ever published."The translations were first published, under this title, by an unknown editor in The Lost Books of the Bible Cleveland 1926, but the translations had previously been published many times. The book is, essentially, a combined reprint of earlier works. The first half, Lost Books of the Bible, covers the New Testament. The second half of the book, The Forgotten Books of Eden, includes a translation originally published in 1882 of the "First and Second Books of Adam and Eve", translated first from ancient Ethiopic to German and then into English by Solomon Caesar Malan, and a number of items of Old Testament pseudepigrapha, such as reprinted in the second volume of R.H. Charles's Apocrypha and Pseudepigrapha of the Old Testament (Oxford, 1913).

In economics, "Knightian uncertainty" is risk that is immeasurable, impossible to calculate. Knightian uncertainty is named after University of Chicago economist Frank Knight (1885-1972), who distinguished risk and uncertainty in his work "Risk, Uncertainty, and Profit": "Uncertainty must be taken in a sense radically distinct from the familiar notion of Risk, from which it has never been properly separated.... The essential fact is that 'risk' means in some cases a quantity susceptible of measurement, while at other times it is something distinctly not of this character; and there are far-reaching and crucial differences in the bearings of the phenomena depending on which of the two is really present and operating.... It will appear that a measurable uncertainty, or 'risk' proper, as we shall use the term, is so far different from an unmeasurable one that it is not in effect an uncertainty at all."Knight's works remains a classic text to this day.
Reprint of 1911 English Edition. Full facsimile of the original edition, not reproduced with Optical Recognition Software. Matter and Memory is one of the four main works by the French philosopher Henri Bergson (1859-1941). Its subtitle is "Essay on the relation of body and spirit", and the book presents an analysis of the classical philosophical problems concerning this relation. Within that framework the analysis of memory serves the purpose of clarifying the problem. Matter and Memory was written in reaction to the book The Maladies of Memory by Théodule Ribot, that appeared in 1881. Ribot claimed that the findings of brain science proved that memory is lodged within a particular part of the nervous system; localized within the brain and thus being of a material nature. Bergson was opposed to this reduction of spirit to matter. Defending a clear anti-reductionist position, he considered memory to be of a deeply spiritual nature; the brain serving the need of orienting present action by inserting relevant memories.
2020 Reprint of the 1924 Edition. Full facsimile of the original edition and not reproduced with Optical Recognition software. The novel describes the problems of a family in which husband and wife are oppressed and frustrated by the roles that they are expected to play. Evangeline Knapp is the ideal housekeeper, while her husband Lester is a poet and a dreamer. Suddenly, through a nearly fatal accident, their roles are reversed; Lester is confined to home in a wheelchair and his wife must work to support the family."This 1924 novel... deals in a seemingly contemporary with the issue of how a married couple can feel oppressed and frustrated by the roles they are expected to play and what happens when these roles are reversed." - Philadelphia Inquirer."What if a husband likes to keep house and is good at it? What if a wife wants to have a job? In the early part of the 20th century, switching roles was an unthinkable solution, but the author uses the frame of a serious accident to set up the situation in this book. "The Home-Maker" is a great commentary on gender roles and Fisher is a keen observer of human nature, so the characters are wonderful. However, the real reason to read this book is something additional. It contains some of the very best writing I have ever seen on the unfolding of a child's character and the responsibility of a parent. The scenes with the children are charming and appealing, but they are also intensely insightful. Fisher had strong views on the need for children to grow up strong and independent, and she found few obligations more serious that than of parents who must carefully accord respect to their children, while nurturing their children's nature to the fullest. She makes her serious point in the framework of an irresistible tale of a loving father and mother who just happen to be miscast in their family roles. Don't miss this one if you want a great book about what children need from adults. And don't miss Steven and the egg-beater."-Amazon Reviewer.

This title continues to rank very high among the best sporting books of all time. A standard manual for campers and a veritable outdoor enthusiast's bible for over a century, the book reflects Horace Kephart's practical knowledge and covers, in depth, any problem that campers might confront.Kephart lived in the Great Smoky Mountains and spent most of his time in the wild. Consequently, he became an expert on all aspects of camp life from living in a semi-permanent lean-to to traveling with only the bare essentials in a backpack. More than simply a hunting or fishing guide, Kephart's book covers a wide variety of subjects from how to dress game and fish to how to shoot accurately. Every chapter is filled with tips that remain useful even after one hundred years of improvements in equipment and technology. "All Scouts know Horace Kephart," began a story in the April, 1914, Boys' Life magazine. "His Book of Camping and Woodcraft" is the pocket companion of pretty nearly everyone who likes to live in the open."
2011 Reprint of 1957 Edition. Full facsimile of the original edition, not reproduced with Optical Recognition Software. Although never considered to be a popular speaker nor prolific writer, A. W. Tozer's audiences did appreciate what he had to say, and he was probably the most widely read Christian writer of his time. "Keys to the Deeper Life" contains four of his best-known essays and editorials. In them he rigorously examines many of the failings and foibles of his day. Although most were written more than three decades ago, the insights they offer are as fresh and thought-provoking as the day they were published. Essays include, "No Revival Without Reformation," "The Deeper Life, What is it?" "Gifts of the Spirit; Are They For Us Today," and "How to be Filled with the Holy Spirit."
