The Principia Discordia is the first published Discordian religious text. It was written by Greg Hill (Malaclypse the Younger) with Kerry Wendell Thornley (Lord Omar Khayyam Ravenhurst) and others. The first edition was printed allegedly using Jim Garrison's Xerox printer in 1963. The second edition was published under the title Principia Discordia or How The West Was Lost in a limited edition of five copies in 1965. The phrase Principia Discordia, reminiscent of Isaac Newton's 1687 Principia Mathematica, is presumably intended to mean Discordant Principles, or Principles of Discordance.The Principia describes the Discordian Society and its Goddess Eris, as well as the basics of the POEE denomination of Discordianism. It features typewritten and handwritten text intermixed with clip art, stamps, and seals appropriated from other sources. While the Principia is full of literal contradictions and unusual humor, it contains several passages which propose that there is serious intent behind the work, for example a message scrawled on page 00075: "If you think the PRINCIPIA is just a ha-ha, then go read it again."Notable symbols in the book include the Apple of Discord, the pentagon, and the "Sacred Chao", which resembles the Taijitu of Taoism, but the two principles depicted are "Hodge" and "Podge" rather than yin and yang, and they are represented by the apple and the pentagon, and not by dots. Saints identified include Emperor Norton, Yossarian, Don Quixote, and Bokonon. The Principia also introduces the mysterious word "fnord", later popularized in The Illuminatus!

This work is considered Luther's most comprehensive work on justification by faith. Luther's fundamental belief in justification by faith was formed in large part by his interpretation of Galatians. Baker, Jr., wrote five collections of recipes that are far more than cookbooks, and impossible to classify. Baker states his chief tenet that informs his work: that all truly interesting people-sportsman, explorers, musicians, scientists, vagabonds and writers-were vitally interested in good things to eat and drink; cared for exotic and intriguing ways of composing them. George Washington Carey (1845-1924) was an American physician known for his 'chemistry of life' publications, a subject which he referred to as biochemistry. Carey combined a mixture of religion, astrology, physiology, anatomy, and chemistry, themed particularly with a mineral-based theory of human disease to explain his views on human chemistry. He continues to be popular within new-age and homeopathic circles. 2023 Reprint of the 1903 Edition. Thoreau's famous essay was published originally with the title On the Duty of Civil Disobedience, now often referred to as Civil Disobedience. He wrote it as a protest against an unjust but popular war and the immoral but popular institution of slave owning. He did more than write--he declined to pay his taxes and was hauled off to jail as a consequence. Thoreau asserts that because governments are typically more harmful than helpful, they therefore cannot be justified. Democracy is no cure for this, as majorities simply by virtue of being majorities do not also gain the virtues of wisdom and justice. The judgment of an individual's conscience is not necessarily inferior to the decisions of a political body or majority. The government, according to Thoreau, is not just a little corrupt or unjust in the course of doing its otherwise important work, but in fact the government is primarily an agent of corruption and injustice. Because of this, it is "not too soon for honest men to rebel and revolutionize".

Born in 1874 as the youngest daughter of a samurai and former daimyo-a feudal prince under shogunate rule-the author grew up surrounded by ghosts of an aristocratic military lineage. Having fought on the losing side in the wars that installed the Meiji emperor, her family was reduced in power, status, and wealth but not in pride or, nor in devotion to its traditional roles and customs. Cajetan Mary da Bergamo was a Franciscan friar who became known in the eighteenth century as a theologian who produced many volumes of writings on a wide range of religious subjects. He is best remembered for his book Humility of Heart, a storehouse of wisdom for Catholics regarding the importance of humility in any spiritual undertaking. Examples of his wisdom are: "It is only by the measure of your humility that thou canst hope to please God and save thyself, because it is certain that God 'will save the humble of spirit." Rufus Matthew Jones was an American religious leader, writer, magazine editor, philosopher, and college professor. One of the most influential Quakers of the 20th century, he was a Quaker historian and theologian as well as a philosopher.The essays of Ralph Waldo Emerson introduced Jones to the idea of George Fox as one of a great historical succession of mystics. This revelation changed Jones's conception of his family's religion. From the writings of the early Quakers, Jones crystallized the concept of the 'inner light," an idea central in particular to modern liberal Quakerism. "The Inner Light is the doctrine that there is something Divine, 'Something of God' in the human soul," he wrote. This inner light was something integral to the human condition, irrespective of a person's religious conviction.He upheld that God is a personal being with whom human beings could interact. Tower Mansion is robbed, and Frank and Joe Hardy take on the case to clear the name of a friend's father. They discover the real crook but first have to decipher his mysterious dying words, find the stolen loot and crack the case. This first Hardy Boys mystery launched a series that would prosper for many decades to come.

Ibn Battutah - ethnographer, biographer, anecdotal historian and occasional botanist - was just twenty-one when he set out in 1325 from his native Tangier on a pilgrimage to Mecca. He is perhaps the greatest medieval Muslim traveler and the author of one of the most famous travel books, the Ri¿lah (Travels). His great work describes his extensive travels covering some 75,000 miles (120,000 km) in trips to almost all of the Muslim countries and as far as China and Sumatra (now part of Indonesia). In this travel narrative he writes of his adventures along the way, and comes across as a superb ethnographer, biographer, anecdotal historian and occasional botanist and gastronome. He was attacked by bandits, almost drowned in a sinking ship, and nearly beheaded by a tyrant ruler. He also had a few marriages and lovers and fathered several children on his travels.
