Two hundred and twenty years after Captain Cook's first tour of New Zealand, Dick Parsons takes us on a more comfortable voyage of discovery round the north and south islands. He gives us a fascinating insight into the life-human, animal and botanical-of this green and majestic land on the other side of the world. From ninety-mile beach in the far north to Dunedin via the Southern Alps, forests, inlets, glaciers, lakes, and islands-even the elusive Mt. Cook-are recorded in fine detail. Birds, beasts, and marine life, plus the impact of man-whether Maori, Scots, or English-are described and commented on with fairness and good humor. There is much to be admired about the Kiwis, not only their all-conquering "All Blacks", but their great spirit of enterprise, for when Britain breaking its commercial ties with the Commonwealth, joined the European Common Market, the resourceful Kiwis rose to the challenge and forged strong economic links with Pacific Rim countries. Britain now initiating BREXIT, can learn much from our enterprising Kiwi friends.

This is not a book. Here we have a few giggles and chuckles for those who remember the three Rs and wished there were something better. At last, it has arrived. Here it is. Rhyme Rhythm and Reason is some wry fun and frolic with poems and paragraphs.

This book searches for the origin of Hollywood's pathetic anti-femininity. It studies the self-humiliation of female characters, alongside which male comic characters (think of Mr. Bean) vanish. That is to say, women own the full market for non-comic, gender-specific self-humiliation, a phenomenon unknown among Hollywood male characters. The author introduces the subject by discussing recent characters impersonated by three famous actresses: Catherine Zeta-Jones, Sandra Bullock, and Angelina Jolie. An equally famous, fourth actress, Meg Ryan, is treated in the first chapter. The second chapter treats a then very promising actress, Gal Gadot, who sadly had to withdraw from acting for reasons that become clear in the two final chapters. The third one discusses MollyHaskell's intuition of "The Big Lie" being "the idea of women's inferiority." According to Haskell, the Big Lie started when American movies developed into a big business, and this very business perpetuated the Big Lie. Strangely, instead of simply calling sexism by its name,ManohlaDargis' foreword merely theorizes the issue. Apparently, she has not the least idea of what causes Hollywood's misogyny, either: however much these two ladies know about movie journalism. The fourth chapter discusses the strong preference of Hollywood for one specific religion above all others. Not too surprising, the history of that religion is a schoolbook example of misogyny .The first appendix summarizes the Rotten-Tomatoes criticism on number one elected movies by the highly reputed and senior French publication Cahiers du Cinéma. The second appendix contains, based on all four chapters' material, the answer to the central question of this book, to wit, the roots of Hollywood's stone-harsh misogyny.

This book looks at many of the issues that fill our news bulletins daily concerning the tiny nation of Israel. For centuries, Jews have been subjected to horrendous abuses. In the opening chapters, we examine the root cause of anti-Semitism and debunk replacement theology, one of the most insidious heresies in the church today. Both anti-Semitism and replacement theology are tools the devil uses to undermine Gods love for Israel and faithfulness to the covenant he made with Abraham. One of the most misinterpreted Old Testament prophecies is now being fulfilled before our eyes. Ezekiels vision of a valley of dry dead bones has so often been used to describe a church that is in desperate need of revival. In the remaining chapters, we look at this prophecy in its proper context. The dry bones are coming together, following the birth of the State of Israel in 1947. Jews from all over the world are returning to the land that was promised to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. The dry bones have grown muscle and have transformed a desert into an oasis. Israel has grown into a major international power, as seen by Ezekiel. Finally, God is not yet finished with his people, and in the last chapter, we see what God says is Israels future. It is a glorious future! It will usher in his return and the establishment of his throne in the city of Jerusalem.

Mental illness tends to be a taboo subject. It has not often been described by the one who experiences, but more often as a case history, or as a subject for analysis. Something that happens to someone else. Two people from totally different backgrounds meet in 1949. They experience poverty, homelessness, social change in the 50's and emerge victorious from their struggles. Suddenly the man dies, aged forty-four, leaving his wife with four children, when the youngest was two years old. The woman's journey to wholeness explored the labyrinth of 'madness', a loss of meaning which was further exacerbated in the setting of psychiatric hospitals. During these episodes she was aware of deeper levels of human history, which emerged unbidden, vividly 'remembered', retold as they occurred in the context of the events described. Fantasy?......as always with every fiction, some sharp shards of truth are piercing the web. The poems, placed as illustrations in the text, were written at the time of the experience, when other ways to communicate were blocked. Fifty years ago, when this record begins, there were but few authors writing about the inner worlds of our human experience. In recent decades there has been a magnificent proliferation of such themes. Reading them, the anguish of feeling, unwittingly explored, seems curiously 'out of date'! Maybe there are others out there who also were caught in a web of misunderstanding their perceptions and felt imperiled; perhaps in revealing her version of 'doing madness' others my find some hope and healing, and the opposites become reconciled.

TThis book's subtitle is the literal content of this book: A Music Anthology with Lyric Analysis of twentieth century popular music. More specifically, the author chose his top-15 favorite musicians: Bryan Adams, Paul McCartney, Mick Jagger, Paul Simon, Björn Ulvaeus and Benny Anderson, Sting, Bono, Roger Waters, Freddie Mercury, Mark Knopfler, Don Henley, Michael Stipes, Phil Collins, Eric Clapton, and Bruce Springsteen. For each of them he analyzed the lyrics of one of their best songs. This analysis unveils a period of explosive musical innovation (in strong contrast to the garbage that today's scratching DJ's come up with) combined with an equally implosive moral decadence. It is only too bad that this decadence is not natural, but atonally orchestrated.

The Gordon family have a historic woolshed, which was built in 1886. It has been turned into a museum to the sheep industry and has an auditorium, where shearing and dog shows are held for tourists. The idea came to Angus Gordon, one of the owners, to delve deeper into the greater Hawkes Bay area, which has been such a famous sheep farming area for over 160 years. This book is a photographic journey through the valleys and plains and along the dramatic coastline that was the original lifeline of the district. The original settlers were able to purchase large blocks of land because of the undeveloped nature of the country. Many of them became sheep barons, and then as they became wealthier, they began to build large and usually very beautiful woolsheds to shear the increasing numbers of sheep they were acquiring as they developed the land. The sheds were built of timber then, as native timber was still in plentiful supply, and they were very well built. Some had shingle roofs, and the floorboards were always tongue-and-groove Matai or Rimu. Many of these sheds have now disappeared, replaced by modern, rather soulless corrugated-iron sheds, but as the author already knew, there are an awful lot of still very well-maintained historic sheds. This book is a tribute to the farmers who have clung on to their land so tenaciously over the years of diminishing returns and diminished size but have still maintained these sheds, which are now treasures of Hawkes Bay that not many people are aware of.

Filled with wisdom and insight, this book is a masterpiece. It is well written, visually stunning and a feast for the soul. From reading Wood You Believe, I have learned to befriend the broken and fragmented parts of myself. As someone who never read about psychology or spirituality before, this book has transformed my life. Reading Wood You Believe was a healing experience in itself.

He knows that there will be no Die Hard hero-no last-minute savior to appear, riding over the hill in the nick of time. There are only ugly choices. Will he choose to hold to his principles or commit the ultimate atrocity by retaliating with his own massive nuclear arsenal against millions of innocent people? Could anyone justify the murder of a hundred million people if it would save an American city? Worse, given his ever-growing erratic behavior, does his staff believe he is rational enough to handle the situation?

What we don't know can still deeply affect us! This book contains groundbreaking material that expands the horizons of self-awareness. For many people it has implications that are enormous and far reaching. It is a medical fact that more than one in eight people began their journey into life not on their own. They had a wombtwin or were part of a multiple pregnancy. It is a medical fact that for every set of twins born, at least one in five were triplets. There is ever increasing evidence that the memory of this early loss can be carried through life as a form of psychological trauma that has previously been unrecognized and usuallymisdiagnosed. The symptoms of having experienced loss in the womb, or shortly after, include: A sadness and sense of loss that persists A loneliness that eats into the bones A difficulty with close relationships A burden of guilt that is irrational A black hole that nothing can fill A tendency towards isolation A creativity that is stunted A difficulty with letting go A search that is endless A depressive mentality A restlessness of spirit A poor sense of self Whether the twin loss took place during the first few months, in the latter stages of the pregnancy, during or after birth, the symptoms seem to vary very little. Could this be you or someone that you know? If so this book could shed light on the mysterious world of what it's like to be a wombtwin survivor and point the way towards healing and recovery. Here are the stories of so many who discovered the key to the mystery that had plagued them all their lives. Written in language that is easily understood, the steps towards identification and resolution are clearly outlined. Here is a book that could truly change your life It could be the most important book you will ever read.

A Spirituality of Healing and Integration, offers much needed wisdom for the spiritual landscape we find ourselves in at this time. The inspiring symbolism, intertwined with scripture, story and insights from psychology makes it a compelling read. It outlines succinctly and clearly where we have come from and where we find ourselves as church in Ireland today. But it doesnt stop there, it navigates us towards a spirituality of the future and offers a direction in which we can be orientating ourselves in religious practice. Life is like a voyage on the sea of history, often dark and stormy, a voyage in which we watch for the stars that indicate the route. (Spe Salvi 49) In Vol 6 of Wood You Believe, through scripture and sculpture, story and self-acceptance, Jim Cogley encourages his readers to face the turbulence of todays faith voyage and drop anchor in the Spirit of God within. Shadow and light, wholeness and imperfection are embraced on the self-abandon voyage leading towards the living water welling up within to eternal life. (John 4:14) Phrases such as, The Samaritan woman went away with the well; When we listen something new is born; Transformation; Under new management; Let go, let God; are like pop-ups that sparkle anew throughout A Spirituality of Healing and Integration leading the reader to Jesus, the true light, the sun that has risen above the shadow of history.
