In his debut work, author Gregory Wright shares a stunning and evocative collection of thoughts and unique perspectives that have been inspired by his personal experiences and feelings, spanning several decades of his life. Themes such as unrequited love, heartbreak, hopes and dreams, and a glimpse into what might have been are presented for readers to contemplate and explore. With a raw and uninhibited voice, Mr. Wright seamlessly connects the dots between everyday and extraordinary events, random and deliberate choices, and how they can have an unexpected and profound effect on a person's life for years to come. "You are about to embark upon a spiritual pilgrimage and you will be visiting sacred sites where you have been in past lives in order to help you remember who you are. You are a healer. A lightworker. Right now, like the Aborigines, you are about to go on your walk-about to claim yourself. You must claim your power. You must clear out all the bullsh*t that says you're not worthy. You are here to serve the planet and remember who you are." After being pronounced a lightworker by a psychic from Sedona, all Stasia Minkowsky wants to do is smoke a joint, get drunk and forget about it. The only problem? It's not working. Desperate for answers, she is guided to her first Native American sweat lodge where most participants are in recovery for drugs and alcohol. Cautious about "drinking the Kool-Aid," Stasia's once guarded exterior begins to unravel with the power of the ceremonies and the path known as the "Red Road." Under the guidance of a goofy yet reclusive Native American teacher, she is buried in a hole for her vision quest and the only white woman dancing in the spiritual piercing ritual called the Sundance. But as her rites of passage into the ceremonial path become deeper, so does her understanding of the blemishes and betrayals of following a spiritual path. The lure of her old lifestyle is never far from her thoughts along Skinny White Woman Stasia Minkowsky with a nagging question about the pain of growing consciousness. If this is truly the path to becoming a lightworker, why is it so friggin' hard? A self-reflective memoir about what it means to follow a modern-day spiritual path, Skinny White Woman is a raw and unrefined look at the human journey to find the spirit within.

Not since pirates plundered the coastline of South Carolina 300 years ago, capturing Charleston citizens and holding them hostage, had a crime created as much fear -- and interest -- as the murder of socialite Loris Campbell. The intrigue begins on a sunny, spring morning with the discovery of Loris's body at her Society Street home. Audrey Durant, assigned to the investigation by the Charleston Police Department, finds herself pulled in divergent directions. Instinct tells her that the murder was committed by a family member. Her search, however, uncovers unscrupulous lawyers, doctors armed with prescription pads, and a pack of predatory conservators. Battling Audrey along the way is Solicitor Pinckney, whose political career is on the rise, and for whom a successful prosecution could open the door to the Governor's mansion. As Audrey unscrambles the family battle that forced Loris's overmedicated husband into a nursing home, her unusual detective style draws on her fascination for South Carolina's colorful history -- finding echoes and clues from the past in the characters and realities of the present case and culminating in a disturbingly realistic conclusion that could happen to any family.
"Fight the Good Fight" provides inspiration for individuals who choose to embrace adversity in order to reach success. Over twenty years ago Ben Newman suffered the loss of her mother after years of watching her health deteriorate. After her tragic passing, his grandmother gave him an unexpected gift, in the form of a journal his mother left behind... Though the journal was intended to simply serve as a record of his mother's medical ordeal and not as a personal memoir for others, upon reading it Ben and his brother discovered a surprising abundance of wisdom imparted within its pages. Being able to see his mother's thoughts on how to live as a champion amidst the battle for her life inspired and touched Ben, as much as if this journal was a letter written personally to him. As Ben Newman shares select passages of the journal in his book, "Fight the Good Fight," his greatest hope is that you as the reader will be inspired and encouraged by his mother's struggle and endurance. A journey that is poignant, emotional, and sometimes heartbreaking, this is a story that you will remember forever in your soul. "This book really touched me. I believe it will cause you to reflect upon and honor the heroes of your past and inspire you to create your future." -Jon Gordon, Author of "The Energy Bus" and "Training Camp" "'Fight the Good Fight' will enable you to live with more purpose and conviction, and will provide the tools to unleash the champion in you!" -Roland Williams, 8-year NFL veteran and Super Bowl Champion
St. John's Episcopal Church, Lafayette Square, in Washington, DC is one of the most unique churches in the United States. A National Historic Landmark, located just north of Lafayette Square, and in clear view of the White House, it has witnessed the presence within its walls of more notable civilian and military leaders of the United States than any other church in the nation. Apart from the White House, St. John's Church is the oldest building adjacent to Lafayette Square. It was designed, and its construction supervised, by Benjamin Henry Latrobe, a leading architect of the early national period. From its opening in October 1816, every person, beginning with James Madison, who has held the office of President of the United States has attended St. John's at least once. Several Presidents have been members. Thus, St. John's is called "the Church of the Presidents." A significant number of members of St. John's, past and present, have played very prominent roles in the public life of the United States and the city of Washington, DC. This book tells the story of this historic church from its origins to the present, while chronicling notable services held at it, and key events in the lives of distinguished Americans who were personally connected with St. John's during their residence in Washington. REVIEWS The first thing to note about this marvelous history of St. John's Church is the research. From start to finish the facts are meticulously assembled and clearly laid out to the reader. This alone makes the book worth reading. But it is far more than a collection of facts. It is the story--or rather the stories-- of St. John's Church that makes this book stand out as a true gem with very few equals in the annals of Church History. --Harry S. Stout Jonathan Edwards Professor of American Religious History Yale University Sited importantly on its corner across from the White House, St. John's Episcopal Church has served both the famous and Everyman without interruption for nearly 200 years, its architectural evolution an index of the development of the capital itself. Historian Richard Grimmett tells the story of the "Church of the Presidents" in "St. John's Church: Lafayette Square" with the painstaking accuracy of an experienced researcher. Flavored with personalities and rich anecdotes, this book begins life as a Washington classic. --William Seale Editor, White House History author of "The President's House: A History." Because St. John's Church has been so closely associated with presidents, cabinet members, powerful insiders and Washington society ... anyone interested in the compelling historical details of a slice of Washington life would want to add the book to his or her library. --Mary O. Klein Archivist, Episcopal Diocese of Maryland.
How does a struggling farmer eventually become a named partner in his own accounting firm? Do what Clarence Hein did: keep trying. Fiercely intelligent yet humbly grateful, Hein is a man of quiet humor and admirable principles.
