Improved outcomes for individuals with co-occurring intellectual/developmental disability (IDD) and mental illness depends upon effective psychiatric treatment. Effective treatment requires an accurate psychiatric diagnosis. Obtaining that accurate diagnosis for individuals with IDD has been, and remains, very challenging.
