Dark to Light explores one woman's journey through the darkness, madness, loneliness, and despair of manic-depression. The book opens with poetry and prose that express the darker side of the illness. It is in her darkness, however, that she learns she is not alone and that by sticking together with others caught in the same bondage as she, there is both Hope and Light to be found. Through her suffering, she learns the importance of her God-given life and so begins the rise out of her pit. Rising out of the Dark she walks boldly into the Light with a new perspective on life and herself. She learns to focus on beauty as a weapon against the darkness. She finally comes to a place where she can find peace and gratitude to God. It is an amazing journey from the embrace of darkness into the warmth of the light.

Obsession wore spiked heels as hip-grinding passion writhed in a tight skirt. Foreplay unravelled to a sweet jazz soliloquy that keeps men scheming and younger men dreaming. What you looking at, Sugar? I didn't have a quick answer as she teased with a slow buttermilk whisper, Do you like it? This was her game, and she knew it. Answers were tucked in her silk purse where love flowed and then exploded in an infinite passage of inane adjectives and flashing lights: "A Suite Invitation"

When divine aspirations entered the mind, and the words flowed like energy into thoughts, came this valued piece of work. These writings can be very inspirational and motivational with insight and changed thoughts to make this world so much brighter, to bring better peace in the minds of the readers, and to bring hope and purpose to people's lives. Tremendous authors of years past made a difference in the world and love is one part of that journey.

This is my second book of original poetry. The first one, GIFTS, was published nine years ago in 2007. As I said then, I seldom (if ever) sit down to write a poem intentionally. Poems come to me out of the blue - like presents in the mail from far-off friends. I can edit and polish them, rewrapping and refining the original idea, but the real source of the inspiration is always a mysterious gift. Sometimes it comes from interactions with friends and family, other times from my religious or musical families. Sometimes it comes during trips to far-off places, and other times during quiet moments. In this book I pass along these gifts to you. I hope you enjoy them.

Adoption Joys: They Expected a Miracle gives God's plan for unplanned pregnancies as it shares encouraging true stories of the joys adoptive couples have found in adoption. Young, unmarried, single women who have found themselves in an unplanned pregnancy are also encouraged with the truth that these couples love them unconditionally over all the years to come. The baby is welcomed, of course, but not more so than the birth mom. The adoptive couples enter the adoption in a covenanted relationship, just as God expects from the couple in their marriage. Because of the covenant, the birth mom finds their couple and loves them as well as her baby.

Doris Howe is a missionary with Youth with A Mission. Her mission field is in Tyler, Texas at Loving Alternative Adoption Agency. She has been an adoption caseworker for over 24 years. Her main task is to minister to young women who find themselves in an unplanned pregnancy. She is to love them, educate them, and pray with them. God's ultimate call for Doris is to introduce these young women to Jesus Christ who is there to help change their lives. An adoption may or may not be part of that relationship.
