When I was diagnosed at 6 months old, the doctors said I wouldn't live to be 2. My older sister died at 6 months herself from this disease, but God had a different plan for me. "Deep In The City" uses modern setting and characters to retell the familiar and favorite story of "Goldilocks and The Three Bears." Rather than a fantasy tale of a little girl lost in the woods who finds porridge and beds who belong to bears, we have Kaitlyn and her family who live in a condo in the middle of a big city. They go out for a morning stroll while a young visitor, Sandy, visits their home after entering through an unlocked door. The events that follow parallel the familiar story with a surprise ending.

This book is about Hunts and Hunters from the time I was ten years old in 1948 until I retired from the hunting business in 2006. It focuses on some of the hunters. Most of the hunts took place in west Sully County, South Dakota. During those years there was very good hunting of geese, pheasants, ducks, grouse, prairie chickens and partridge. Making some of the hunts a mixed bag of birds and making many lasting friendships. A lot of our guests would bring their children and their children would bring their children. Passing hunting on from then until now. This book was put in place by Barb Thomas, who got involved in the effort to finish it. She even added a goose story of her own!

I make landscape, cityscape, nature, and cultural images that evoke a strong emotional response in me. My bold use of color is heavily influenced by travel throughout the U.S. and Canada, Mexico, Cuba, Puerto Rico, Hawaii and a 12,000-mile motorcycle adventure with my son from Minnesota to Argentina. Photography has always been a creative force in my life and I relish seeing, celebrating, and sharing beauty found in humble places. In order to accomplish this, I try to enter new situations with eyes and heart open, switching off the world, and truly experiencing the situation I'm encountering. Being an artist is not a permanent state for me. There are times I need to be a craftsman as well. When composing any image I must keep visually exploring whatever grabbed my interest and consider the basic building blocks of visual design - shapes, lines, textures, colors, and perspectives. My underlying desire throughout the process is to be sensitive to the essential structure I'm working with and to show understanding and respect for my subject matter. At times, I find value in representing the objective reality in front of me and I'll operate more in the tradition of fine documentary image-makers. At other times, I may wish to express a personal response to a subject or idea and create impressionistic images. When working in the digital darkroom, Lightroom 6 for me, my desire is to retain the visual clarity of an image without overly manipulating or making additions in post-processing. I'm a self-taught photographer and reside in Maplewood, Minnesota. I hold a Ph.D. in Education, currently serve as a professor emeritus at Bethel University, and I'm a former elementary school teacher and principal. I'm also an avid outdoors person, having hiked over half of the Appalachian Trail, lived in a tent for over two years, and worked as a muskie guide for seven summers. It's hard for young ones to understand the concept of birth. What's worse is when there is a premature birth in the family and the baby can't come home right away. I want to thank each and everyone of you for your confidence and support in this artistic journey that is now my life. I am grateful to be able to do what I love on a daily basis. People have made the comment to me that I am " living the dream", and in reality this dream is hard work and often times filled with frustration. I think the true dream is to live each day to the fullest, and know that you have done your best no matter what the circumstances. To be able to end the day knowing that you have given your all doing what you love is important to me. Yes, I am living each day in this life to the fullest, and dreaming of what lies ahead in this journey. Don't be afraid to take that first step.

Hearing is one of our five senses we often take for granted, and children rarely even think about. Owen Owl's early ear infections cause him more issues than medicine alone can handle. First he breaks his wing after losing his balance doing something he'd done all his life and then he learns he has to have hearing aids. Owen is sure he's going to have ears, "just like Grandad!" I am an award-winning artist and my works hang in private residences, community hospitals, businesses, and restaurants across the US and also abroad. I live in Pierre, South Dakota. Since 2008 I have owned Sharon Welch Gallery and Studio where I paint and teach classes. My theory is have fun, remove the fear of failure, experiment and let the child inside of you play.Very often my work begins with a heavily textured, boldly painted surface. My next step is to work within designprinciples, adding color, texture, pattern and line allowing the canvas to speak to me. The result is that my paintings are often eclectic, covering a wide range of subjects but cohesive because of color, bold marks, and movement.
