"Poetry and the Concept of Maya" is a textbook for poets and anyone else interested in improving their reading and enjoyment of poetry. The poetry of world-famous Alan Britt is looked at through the lens of the Hindu concept of Maya. By analyzing Britt's poetry this way, the reader is instructed on how to see through the poem, by way of its images and metaphors, into another reality behind the poem. The Sky is a Gate, from the author of Necropole and Poetry is Mindfulness (among others), is a collection of poems mostly written during the pandemic year of 2020 in which the poet explores the effects of the pandemic on himself and life in general. The collection also includes the long poem "The Social Schedule of Death", which examines the possibility of the transcendence of relationships, in the context of the poet's metaphysical outlook. The next-to-last poem in the collection, before "The Social Schedule of Death", titled "Apology to Christians" is a provocative declaration of spiritual independence every inquiring-minded person should read.
