Fifteen-year-old Ben Smith has the perfect family, but then everything changes. Ben's world is pulled inside out, his love-life turned upside down. Three things happen: A truck collides with a bus. A plane lands in Dubai, one passenger short. There is a vicious dog fight. Ben's family circle suddenly grows by one, then by two and then by another. The sum of all these new family members should be three, right? Except everyone knows that two plus one relatives don't make three, they make trouble. It's a year of relative madness.
High schools are jungles. And there are rules for surviving. All teenagers need to know these rules. They're pretty simple: never let your mom drive you to school in her dressing-gown. Never let her comment on your Facebook page. Never let her choose your clothes. Especially not your underwear. Common sense, right? Thirteen-year-old Ben Smith, flying under the radar at St David's, a rugby-worshipping school, knew all the rules. His mom knew them, too. That's why he trusted her to be cool. But then Ben broke the most important rule of all: never tell your mom stuff. First, he spilled the beans, then she did. And all hell broke loose. Ben wasn't Ben, Benno, Ben-dude anymore. He was the rat, the weasel, the sneak. He was Snitch.Snitch is the award-winning book of the 2017 M.E.R Prize for the best English or Afrikaans youth novel.

An unputdownable true story that is "searing, brutal and breathtaking". A raw yet poetic look at deep family dysfunction, abuse, addictions, trauma, toxic relationships, mental health issues, struggles in recovery and hope.In 1980s apartheid Cape Town, five-year-old Desiree-Anne is grappling with how she's going to turn her tar baby doll's skin into soft lily-white. She doesn't know how to force her father to stop drinking or gambling or make her mother love her or get the boys and men to stop touching her in secret. As she grows up, she begins to understand the rules of living in her depressed family and fractured community. "Was I in trouble? Were they going to finally make sense of everything that had been happening to me? But no one said a word. I soon learned that this was how it worked in my family. We Never Talked About Things. Ever." In her teens, laden with the unbearable awkwardness of bushy, unruly hair and body dysmorphia, Desiree-Anne is also forced to confront her 'coloured identity crisis'. With a strong sense of not belonging, she turns to self-harm, disordered eating and the thrill of petty theft. She finds solace in books and acting, and after school is offered a place to study drama at university. She turns it down, weighed down by self-doubt and the fear of failure. As she continually searches for love but invariably attracts "broken' people, she follows one of her boyfriends to the UK, where she gets lost in the drinking culture and the Ecstasy scene. Upon her return to South Africa, she embraces the hedonistic "Rave Culture" and finds the acceptance she has searched for her entire life. Her life spirals out of control when she meets - and believes her love can fix - an intravenous heroin addict. Deceit. Madness. Crime. Sex work. These become her way of life. In this harrowing debut memoir of the darkness of addiction, mental health issues, abuse and the journey to finding recovery, Desiree-Anne uncovers her real voice to brilliantly write about things that were previously left unsaid.Take this rollercoaster ride through one girl-woman's journey as she faces impossible odds. This book has been described as visceral and scathingly real; a no-holds barred account of the author's battle with afflictions and addictions, sin and sex work, heartbreak and hope.Review by acclaimed author and academic, Barbara Boswell, author of the award-winning, "Grace, A Novel"."This weekend I read Desiree-Anne Martin's brilliantly-written and wrenching memoir, "We Don't Talk About It. Ever." almost in one sitting! I highly recommend this memoir about drug addiction and recovery, which left me in tears at the author's bravery and determination to beat the terrifying disease of addiction. She writes poetically and with an honesty that sometimes took my breath away. I could not put this book down; yet was forced to at times in order to just breathe and experience and process the emotions the writing brought up for me. She is also a poet, and this aesthetic comes through clearly in her work. It has the unusual quality of having depth, while being paced quite fast, and I found myself racing towards the end to see how her story ends. Another aspect of this book that I loved is the fine textured depiction of Cape Town during the late 80s and 90s - growing up "Coloured" during that time and issues of class, race and shifting racial identity that the memoir subtly brings into focus. Please go and buy this book and support a compelling new voice!"About The AuthorDesiree-Anne Martin is an award-winning published author, of memoir, short stories and poetry. This is a fictitious book about a young bloke whose character's name is MrSir. The book doesn't constitute of surnames (last names) and so on - so you call him exactly that throughout the whole book...MrSir (in the book) is a poet, hence there are poems in it. He is also a facilitator, hence there are educational parts which come in forms of "Word For The Record" digressions. The whole story is "romance plus suspense" based - where his mysterious problems are connected to his romantic relationships, but the root cause of those problems are psychological. He was psychologically challenged by life, targeted by a guy who was also a victim of the same type of attack (psychological imbalance) - and his (MrSir's) exposure to a psychologist came to his rescue. This book is composed of a storyline that subtly shows you the importance of mental health without rubbing the words "mental health" in your face. Not only does it teach about all life's ups and downs, but it also entertains you. It's an "all in one" kind of a book, really. When you are done with it - you will have an evolved perception towards the world around you - it is a prerequisite to the next book: The Beginning Of Mental Evolution!

What makes us human? Sadly most people hide the most interesting and helpful of these things away. We walk around with facades in place of who we believe people will like, respect, and love. We pretend to be what we are not. In so doing we are losing touch with our own humanity, and progressively, individually and as societies, moving farther and farther away from who and what we really are. This book delves into the dangers of this.It explores reality and the things that hurt and hinder humanity. The things that if we finally begin to consider could save ourselves and the world we live on if we would only take the time to ponder them. No holds are barred in the examination of mental aberration, societal aberration, the things that people prefer to pretend not to see in the world and also inside themselves. It suggests ways that logic and conscious acceptance of fact can change the things that we hide in the shadows.
As if by some natural law, international politics is an ever-changing process of states and non-state actors going about pursuing their diverse and sometimes conflicting and sometimes converging interests; but some factors, patterns and insights remain unmoved, or in the very least remain relevant both for assessing the present and prognosticating the future. Objectively and accessibly written, the Beginner's Dictionary of Contemporary International Relations unpacks the origins and occurrences of the following in a manner that allows the reader to be able to formulate or improve on their understanding of modern international relations: * Past and contemporary events and policies which have shaped and continue to shape present-day international politics and international political economy. * International organisations and movements whose activities have had an influence in international relations in both the political and economic spheres. * Transnational issues currently facing today's statesmen and the global community at large, including conflict, nuclear proliferation, human rights matters and economic development. * Personalities involved in international relations scholarship and in policymaking who have shaped and are perhaps presently shaping international politics. * Theories, concepts and models of representing, understanding, and perhaps conducting international relations.

You probably have read many books and obviously enjoyed some and did not enjoy some, but this book, The Ultimate Plan For Success is a book that you will live to remember every day of your life. If you have ever heard of people put on a life support machine, then I think this book is the most recommended life support material for your life. It cuts across growth in your spiritual life, business, career, health, marriage, family life and all areas of your life. This book does not only teach you to succeed in life, but it also teaches you to take over and dominate everything under your responsibility and within your territories. It is a book that will teach you step by step how to walk out of poverty, how to build your spiritual life, how to develop an intimacy with God and tap into the supernatural, how to develop yourself, how to overcome daily challenges, how to rise from zero to hero, how to overcome certain limitations in your life and get out of the rat race, how to become resourceful to your community, country and the world at large, and how to transform the world as a Christian. I strongly believe that every individual has a moral obligation to make a positive contribution to their nation and the world at large, though only a few individuals pursue this course and the majority concentrates on their careers and family only. It is not enough to be born into this world, grow in this world, acquire all the things you need in this world to succeed in life, depart from this world and yet contribute nothing measurable to transform your community, nation or the world at large.God has endowed every individual (including you) with extraordinary abilities to transform the world and bring it under our control. This book will, therefore, help you to live up to your potentials as a child of God. It is a book that reveals deep mysteries about the things of God and how God handed over the keys of this world to us in order to rule and overcome the world. It is a practical book that interprets Scripture in a very simple and systematic manner. Reading through this book as an author has transformed my life and it has turned into a major addiction in my life, where I'll have to read through the whole book at least once every week. It is a book written through a direct revelation from the Holy Spirit about major keys in life that can unlock and deliver millions of people from every unpleasant situation.I, therefore, recommend this book not only to you but to your family, loved ones and any person that is looking for answers in life. It will teach you how to overcome every situation using Biblical principles.

In this rivetting book, David Pasipanodya takes us along on the emotional journey, from shock, through despondency, anger, acceptance and, finally, to positive attitudes, that he experienced from the time he learned he had prostate cancer.
This book explores the challenging, and often painful, relationships we have with others. By encouraging us to examine some of our early influences, we are able to look within and observe our current patterns of behaviour to give us a better understanding of what our pay-offs are and why we attract the relationships that we do. We are shown that people in our lives serve as a mirror, reflecting back to us a unique message about who we are. These messages are the key to our personal growth and once we recognise them, we have the opportunity to take back our power and to start living with greater joy, wisdom, and authenticity.
