Clayton and the lovable, comical characters of Grampy, Mom, and Austin along with the smartest dog ever, Daisy, are off on another adventure aboard the houseboat, the Granny Rose. This time the crew is traveling from Mobile, Alabama to Destin, Florida on the Intracoastal Waterway.On this journey, there are visits to the Battleship Park in Mobile where Clayton and Austin meet their phobias of height and close spaces head-on as they tour the retired United States Navy ships of the USS Alabama and the USS Drum. Will the boys consider new career paths after the tour?A trip to Dauphin Island finds the group facing the "bride ghost," alligators, stingrays, and even goats in trees. Daisy faces her fears by jumping into Clayton's lap and barking continuously as a mysterious object keeps resurfacing out of the waters of Mobile Bay and the Intracoastal Waterway. Could it be the yellow submarine of Sneaky Pete?As the group proceeds down the waterway, visits to Perdido Key and the Naval Museum in Pensacola, bring more adventures, with the viewing of the mysterious object continuing to frighten Daisy. Why can't Grampy see the object protruding out of water?In Destin, the group meets up with reoccurring characters of Sydney and Camryn, and their families for a suspenseful ride aboard a real submarine. Does the shipwreck bring fame and fortune to them? Will the boys and girls find "real treasure?"

This book takes them westward on the Ohio River from Louisville all the way to Paducah. Along the way, the group takes in more of the excitement of Louisville, then they walk across the Big Four Bridge to Jeffersonville, Indiana, where they see the famous red-hot candy being made. Grampy makes a confession as the group visits the Falls of the Ohio Interpretive Center. Why are the City officials and reporters there too?The adventure continues down the Ohio, stopping at the Farnsley-Moreman House, and then Buttermilk Falls in Brandenburg, Ky. Unusual and mysterious events begin to unfold after a ghost tale is told to the group. Just what is happening with Clayton's shoes?The group enjoys the sights and beauty of the river as they pass Leavenworth, Ind., and they even get up on stage with the locals to do some 'pickin and grinnin' at the Bluegrass Music History Center in Owensboro, Ky.Clayton, Austin, and Sydney learn more about river travel and boating, as Grampy and Mom give the controls of the Granny Rose over to the eager and capable youngsters as they approach Paducah and Metropolis, their final stops on this adventure.

Who could have imagined that Grampy had scuba diving lessons planned for the boys' future as he arrived home from Destin? After obtaining their official diving certifications, Clayton and Austin embark on a diving adventure in Lake Barkley to the abandoned underwater town of Eddyville. Here the boys discover a bottle at an Eddyville bank vault with a mysterious message inside from the unknown 'Bass family.' Clayton, Austin and new-found friend, Joanna, distribute their own bottles with messages in them as they travel along the Cumberland River. They wonder if they will ever get a chance to meet the elusive Bass family as a second message bottle from them is found. Grampy, Mom, Clayton, Austin, and Joanna stop in Nashville, the city that has the Cumberland River running through downtown. They take the Country Music Capital of the World by storm, even meeting and singing with some of their favorite singers. Could a CD, video, or Nashville performance be in their future as Clayton, Austin, and Joanna form the 'Country Gal plus 2' band? This latest Clayton River Adventure book is the sixth in the Clayton series, which is targeted for 3rd thru 6th graders. It contains facts about the intentional flooding of Eddyville and Kuttawa and the man-made Lake Barkley.
