The Covid-19 pandemic and current international circumstances have left many individuals feeling vulnerable, both economically and psychologically. At the same time, pressure is put on healthcare systems, particularly in Europe, resulting in doctor shortages, heavy workloads, and low salaries for healthcare workers. Patients are experiencing longer waiting lists, shorter visiting times, and emergency rooms that underestimate patients' clinical problems. As a result, episodes of self-violence and violence resulting from different causes are happening more frequently, also in hospitals. However, there is hope, and it starts with sharing our needs, thoughts, and feelings. This is where narrative medicine comes into play, as it helps bring stories to light, listen, ask open questions, analyze the spoken words, metaphors, and timing of communication, and promote a non-violent narrative. The key is to transition from violent to non-violent narratives and the consideration of relationship as a fundamental part of the therapeutic process, deserving an in-depth educational program. This is even more true if one considers that the ecosystem of health, together with the inclusion of diversity and the promotion of peace, is one of the main pillars of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.This book aims to inspire care for one another through the narratives of people with disabilities, patients, nurses, doctors, students, carers, and individuals who meet otherness and resolve conflicts.

The present book contains the proceedings of the 14th International Symposium on Continuum Models and Discrete Systems (CMDS14) held in Paris in June 2023. It contains 21 contributions that cover a broad range of topics in the wide field of mechanics and physics of heterogeneous media for discrete and continuous systems, from image analysis to models of random structures and to homogenization. The book does not speculate about the future implications of AI on armed forces, but rather discusses how armed forces are currently exploring the potential of this emerging technology. This book discusses the living conditions and resulting political attitudes and participation patterns of young people, especially in the countries of the "Global East"--regions of the world that have so far received little public attention--and which subjects growing up in these countries to an in-depth analysis. Today's youth is coming of age in a climate of social disparity and heterogeneous living circumstances. Amid the economic and political uncertainty in many of the world's crisis countries, adolescents are faced with a multiplicity of challenges which may manifest in social exclusion, unequal access to education, and high youth unemployment rates. The political circumstances from which these effects arise are varied in nature and include attempts at democratization and repressive tendencies in Arab states, financial crises in Southern Europe, and the growing alienation of South-Eastern Europe and the countries of the former Soviet Union from the European Union as a result of disappointed expectations. The empirical data basis of the individual articles is provided by current country-specific youth studies. The book is divided into three sections. Part One outlines the differences in the economic and political status of young people in selected countries. Part Two focuses on the political and social involvement of adolescents. Finally, Part Three discusses adolescents' responses to the situations in their home countries. This book unpacks key concepts and methods that are relevant for a critical and reflective framing of futures in postdigital education. The rich and often confusing terminology in the multidisciplinary field of digitalization and education tends to prevent conversations across disciplines and areas about core issues at stake in increasingly data-driven everyday practices, such as issues of ethics and values. The compiled chapters focus on concepts and methods that have pertinence for contemporary debates about the emergence of data-driven education. The chapters explore their implicit or explicit ethical and normative implications. The chapters provide in-depth critical reflections and perspectives for scholars in the field to engage and analyze data-driven education as an educational and cultural phenomenon. This anthology thus focuses on the value-laden and ethical aspects reflected in educational imaginaries (discourses and practices) regarding emerging data-driven sociotechnical practices in education. Claims about data-driven practices contributing to ensuring the quality and value of the learning experience raise a series of questions that warrant ethical considerations. Concerns have arisen in connection with inequalities, discrimination, algorithmic authority, accountability, and student well-being, as well as advisors' moral discomfort and violation of a professional, ethical code. This includes conceptual perspectives of marginalized and minoritized groups and issues closely related to intersectionality. Furthermore, questions of Bildung are re-articulated and manifested anew through evolving digital solutions, calling for critical perspectives on reproduction, transformation, and innovation in education. In this context, we argue that educational sciences need to pay attention to the values and the ethics associated with emerging sociotechnical imaginaries. This study explores priority setting in health care and calls for well-informed, clear and sometimes uncompromising choices in the allocation of means and personnel. Making balanced choices in health care is of particular importance to vulnerable groups whose voices may not be heard as readily or effectively in the public debate, and whose interests are more easily crowded out.
