Since its founding in 2011, the Research Center on the Commons and Sustainable Society has been at the forefront of Commons Research in South Korea. This book brings together the discoveries and insights the Center has produced in its first decade, as a contribution to international commons research and to the understanding of the commons in South Korea particularly.Divided into five main parts, the book charts the course of commons research in South Korea. Part I surveys the historical background to commons thinking through the course of its foundation as a dictator-led developmental state through to its current democratic and neoliberal status quo. Following on from this, Part II looks at how diverse commons perspectives have taken root during this period. Part III then analyses the various specific fields through which commons research in Korea has grown. After this, Part IV presents the fruits of this commons research-the alternative policies and social actions that have been proposed for Korean society. Lastly, Part V addresses the remaining challenges which ongoing commons research in Korea is seeking to address.An insightful resource for scholars of both Korean political economy and commons studies more broadly.

Despite increasing scholarly attention to artificial intelligence (AI), studies at the intersection of AI and communication remain ripe for exploration, including investigations of the social, political, cultural, and ethical aspects of machine intelligence, interactions among agents, and social artifacts. This book examines the interface between Buddhism and the caste system in India. It discusses how Buddhism in different stages, from its early period to contemporary forms-Therav¿da, Mah¿y¿na, Tantray¿na and Navay¿na-dealt with the question of caste. It also traces the intersections between the problem of caste with those of class and gender. The volume reflects on the interaction between Hinduism and Buddhism: it looks at critiques of caste in the classical Buddhist tradition while simultaneously drawing attention to the radical challenge posed by Dr B. R. Ambedkar's Navay¿na Buddhism or neo-Buddhism. The essays in the book further compare approaches to var¿a and caste developed by modern thinkers such as M. K. Gandhi and S. This edited collection explores the philosophy of Clarence Irving Lewis through two major concepts that are integral to his conceptual pragmatism: the a priori and the given. The relation between these two elements of knowledge forms the core of Lewis's masterpiece Mind and the World Order . While Lewis's conceptual pragmatism is directed against any conception of the a priori as constraining the mind and experience, it also emphasizes the inalterability and the unavoidability of the given that remains the same through any interpretation of it by the mind. This book seeks to examine the impacts associated with China's carbon-energy policy in Asia and how, coupled with the Belt and Road Initiative, these effects prompt foreign direct investments in coal power and exports of renewable energy technologies.China shows a co-evolution of carbon-energy policy and energy transitions from coal to renewables. What do China's scholars make of the nature of China's global rise? This book presents unique semi-autobiographical narratives by leading social work educators and practitioners in India who have done innovative work in the field of child-centred social work (CSW). The practitioners narrate their career journeys and contributions to research, policy, and practice in this field, discuss innovations, achievements, and impact of the work done, and share reflections on the challenges faced, lessons learnt, and the way forward. This book explores the role of Catholic peacebuilding in addressing the global mining industry.
