This second volume of letters takes us into the everyday life of the Lodges of Elect in the 18th Century in Toulouse and New Orleans. It also includes some fascinating testimonies of French Masonic life in the period of its total submission to Napoleonic rule. Etienne Morin's existing letters, as published in 1958 by N. Choumitzky in St Claudius, are here translated by Joseph Wages. We thought that we ought to re-examine, complete, correct and translate into English the index of names originally made by Gerry Prinsen for the Latomia edition. Many additions have been made, many more, no doubt, would have been necessary.

After 73 years of conflict, regardless of the many changes on the ground, the political wind that swept the region, and the intermittent violence between Israel and the Palestinians, the Palestinians will not give up on their aspiration for statehood. Ultimately a two-state solution remains the only viable option to end their conflict. The difference, however, between the framework for peace that had been discussed in the 1990s and 2000s when the focus was on establishing a Palestinian state in the West Bank and Gaza versus the present time is that many new, irreversible facts have been created: in particular the interspersing of the Israeli and Palestinian populations in the West Bank, Jerusalem, and Israel proper; the status of Jerusalem, where both sides have a unique religious affinity; the Israeli settlements in the West Bank, the majority of which will have to remain in place; the intertwined national security concerns of Israelis and Palestinians; and the Palestinian refugees, who need to be resettled and/or compensated. This unique book is in both English and Arabic for broader reach and understanding.

As stated in our website, the Journal is focused on "addressing the security and resiliency threats faced by US critical infrastructure sectors and the corresponding resiliency challenges of jurisdictions that rely on these infrastructures . . . each sector is considered so vital that its incapacitation would have a debilitating effect on the country's security, economic viability, public health and safety or other adverse outcomes." These goals are consistent with those of the InfraGard National Members Alliance (INMA), whose mission is to protect "US critical infrastructure and the American people by cultivating communications, collaboration and engagement between the public and private sectors; the Alliance unites the knowledge base, work and resources of these stakeholders to mitigate threats to national security, improve resilience, and strengthen the foundation of American life." This issue of Saber & Scroll is a veritable grab bag of historical research and arguments, ranging from the aforementioned survey of American comic books during war to another look at why the British lost the American Revolutionary War. That article presents six ways things went wrong in London at the time that led to a historic loss by the most powerful maritime force in the world. If you are into late nineteenth century social and culture history like this author, check out the selection on Wild West shows and Native American culture. The article explores how these types of shows were not only some of the most popular forms of entertainment during this time, but how they also gave a safe platform for Native Americans to showcase their customs, traditions, and culture. If you are looking for a new post-pandemic travel destination, there is a piece about the Skagway Commercial Club's efforts to attract more tourists to the Alaskan city in the early twentieth century. Then there is a look at the evolution of American foreign policy in Puerto Rico from the turn of the century through the mid-twentieth century, including how those policies contributed to opinions about the island's culture and tourism. In another article, early Jewish history takes center stage in a study of the significance of the archive of two-thousand-year-old documents found in a Judaean desert cave in the 1960s. Rounding out the Spring 2021 issue are three book reviews on various topics including the evolution of the Commonwealth of Virginia's politics, laws, and infrastructure in the twentieth century; how George Washington brought his military expertise to the creation and running of his Cabinet; and a comprehensive look at the "forgotten" Philippine War from 1899 to 1902.

Arts & International Affairs interrogates the politics and economics of the arts through a global perspective. Situated within international contexts, the arts encompass the performing, creative and visual industries that envelop the modes of expression in the global political economy. AIA's interdisciplinary style is imperative to capturing the intersections between people, their creations, their services and institutions. Artistic works often transcend borders and provoke local, national and transnational engagement.Arts and cultural managers working in the fine and performing arts and heritage engage with creative and aesthetic expressions that reflect broad social as well as personal cultural ideas, knowledge, and values. This issue shows how their work helps with understanding the contribution of the arts to historical, institutional and social assumptions about interculturalism, cultural diversity, and cultural inclusion. This understanding is also essential when addressing the anxieties that globalization and an increasing populism bring to the arts and cultural sector.
