Gerald was upset because the chief of police wasn't investigating his father's death. Some one had shot him and the chief just ignored anything Gerald said and sent him on his way. It made him think that the chief was crooked and in with the wild gang that had invaded their town. Well if the chief wouldn't investigate than he would.
