An Open Eyed Conspiracy - William Dean Howells - Bog

Bag om An Open Eyed Conspiracy

""An Open Eyed Conspiracy"" is a novel written by William Dean Howells, first published in 1899. The story takes place in a small town in Ohio, where the protagonist, a young lawyer named Basil March, becomes involved in a conspiracy to overthrow the corrupt local government. March is initially hesitant to join the conspiracy, but is eventually convinced by his friend, the charismatic and enigmatic Colonel Sellers. Together, they recruit a group of like-minded citizens to help them expose and bring down the corrupt officials. As the plan unfolds, March finds himself increasingly drawn to the Colonel's daughter, Laura, and begins to question whether the conspiracy is worth the risks it entails. Meanwhile, the corrupt officials fight back with their own dirty tactics, leading to a dramatic and suspenseful conclusion. Through its exploration of political corruption, idealism, and the nature of power, ""An Open Eyed Conspiracy"" remains a relevant and thought-provoking work of fiction over a century after its initial publication. The girl had never known a mother's care, and it was affecting to see how willing she was to be mothered by the chance kindness of a stranger. She probably felt more and more her ignorance of the world as it unfolded itself to her in terms so altogether strange to the life of De Witt Point. I was not sure that she would have been so grateful for the efforts made for her enjoyment if they had failed, but as the case stood she was certainly grateful. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
