...there on the shiny leather couch, behind the wrought iron coffee table, were three girls, all glaring at Ryder and me. "Oh, stop," Josie scolded them. "That is no way to treat guests."
"Not guests," Julia said. "Employees. We can treat them however we'd like."

Josie shot me an apologetic glance before she turned back to the girls. "This is Lindy, my... " she stopped herself. "Friend. And Ryder, her... " She stopped again before she finished, "friend."
"Oh good," Julia's sarcasm knew no bounds, "we're all friends."
