  • af Caitlin Moran
    192,95 kr.

The follow-up to Caitlin Moran's breakout hit, How to Be a Woman?A hilarious collection of award-winning columns, available to American readers for the first time ever.Possibly the only drawback to the bestselling How to Be a Woman was that its author, Caitlin Moran, was limited to pretty much one subject: being a woman. Moranthology is proof that Caitlin can actually be "quite chatty" about many other things, including cultural, social, and political issues that are usually the province of learned professors or hot-shot wonks?and not of a woman who once, as an experiment, put a wasp in a jar and got it stoned. Caitlin ruminates on?and sometimes interviews?subjects as varied as caffeine, Keith Richards, Ghostbusters, Twitter, transsexuals, the welfare state, the royal wedding, Lady Gaga, and her own mortality, to name just a few. With her unique voice, Caitlin brings insight and humor to everything she writes.

Just when you thought it was safe to go back to the bookstore . . . Booky Wook 2!As incredible as it may seem, the honesty, the mayhem, the lascivious scandal of Russell Brand's magnum opus, My Booky Wook, are surpassed by Booky Wook 2! This time it's personal, as Brand unabashedly charts his rise from crack-house junkie to Hollywood star while indulging in sexual excesses that make Caligula seem like a prudish spinster?encountering thousands of women, often three or four at a time (for efficiency), on his quest to find true love. Here is the riveting story of what happens when insatiable desire meets limitless opportunity and a punk from the wrong side of the tracks is given the keys to the palace. Indeed, Brand's riot of self-indulgence would be rampaging still were it not for a well-aimed bottle tossed to the head, delivered from the hand of the exquisite Katy Perry, one of the world's biggest pop stars. Can true love conquer all? Is it a force more powerful than the raging libido of an insatiable professional madman? The answer lies within . . . Booky Wook 2!

  • af Geezer Butler
    179,95 kr.

A rollicking, effusive, and candid memoir by the heavy metal musician and founding member of Black Sabbath, covering his years as the band's bassist and main lyricist through his later-career projects, and detailing how one of rock's most influential bands formed and prevailed. With over 70 million records sold, Black Sabbath, dubbed by Rolling Stone ?the Beatles of heavy metal,? helped create the genre itself, with their distinctive heavy riffs, tuned down guitars, and apocalyptic lyrics. Bassist and primary lyricist Geezer Butler played a gigantic part in the band's renown, from suggesting the band name to using his fascination with horror, religion, and the occult to compose the lyrics and build the foundation of heavy metal as we know it.In Into the Void, Butler tells his side of the story, from the band's beginnings as a scrappy blues quartet in Birmingham through the struggles leading to the many well-documented lineup changes while touring around London's gritty clubs (Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, Frank Zappa, and The Who makes notable appearances!), and the band's important later years. He writes honestly of his childhood in a working-class family of seven in Luftwaffe-battered Birmingham, his almost-life as an accountant, and how his disillusionment with organized religion and class systems would spawn the lyrics and artistic themes that would resonate so powerfully with fans around the world.Into the Void reveals the softer side of the heavy metal legend and the formation of one of rock's most exciting bands, while holding nothing back. Like Geezer's bass lines, it is both original, dramatic, and forever surprising.

  • af Benita Eisler
    197,95 kr.

Frédéric Chopin's reputation as one of the Great Romantics endures, but as Benita Eisler reveals in her elegant and elegiac biography, the man was more complicated than his iconic image. A classicist, conservative, and dandy who relished his conquest of Parisian society, the Polish émigré was for a while blessed with genius, acclaim, and the love of Europe's most infamous woman writer, George Sand. But by the age of 39, the man whose brilliant compositions had thrilled audiences in the most fashionable salons lay dying of consumption, penniless and abandoned by his lover. In the fall of 1849, his lavish funeral was attended by thousands—but not by George Sand.In this intimate portrait of an embattled man, Eisler tells the story of a turbulent love affair, of pain and loss redeemed by art, and of worlds—both private and public—convulsed by momentous change.

The theme of this monograph is: "Legal aspects of political reform and popular participation". Its purpose is to clarify what political reform is from a legal point of view, what forms and possibilities popular participation has in relation to the legislative process and to analyze the legislative changes that would be necessary to carry out the so-called political reform in Brazil. Such a study is pertinent given the large number of legislative proposals, including amendments to the Federal Constitution, dealing with this issue and which, despite having been discussed for some time, find it very difficult to be finally approved and generate a series of doubts as to the legitimacy of their proposal and their form of approval by the Legislative Branch. There is also doubt about the form of popular participation in this reform, whether it is really necessary and how it would be carried out, whether by plebiscite, referendum or even by popular initiative law. The methodology to be used will be bibliographical consultation and newspaper and magazine articles dealing with the subject.

National Bestseller"A landmark and long-overdue cultural history." ?VogueThe stylish, wild story of the marriage of Dennis Hopper and Brooke Hayward?a tale of love, art, Hollywood, and heartbreak ?Those years in the sixties when I was married to Dennis were the most wonderful and awful of my life.? ?Brooke HaywardLos Angeles in the 1960s: riots in Watts and on the Sunset Strip, wild weekends in Malibu, late nights at The Daisy discotheque, openings at the Ferus Gallery, and the convergence of pop art, rock and roll, and the New Hollywood. At the center of it all, one inspired, improbable, and highly combustible couple?Dennis Hopper and Brooke Hayward?lived out the emblematic love story of '60s L.A.The home these two glamorous young actors created for themselves and their family at 1712 North Crescent Heights Boulevard in the Hollywood Hills became the era's unofficial living room, a kaleidoscopic realm??furnished like an amusement park,? Andy Warhol said?that made an impact on anyone who ever stepped into it. Hopper and Hayward, vanguard collectors of contemporary art, packed the place with pop masterpieces by the likes of Roy Lichtenstein, Ed Ruscha, and Warhol, and welcomed a who's who of visitors, from Jane Fonda to Jasper Johns, Joan Didion to Tina Turner, Hells Angels to Black Panthers. In this house, everything that defined the 1960s went down: the fun, the decadence, the radical politics, and, ultimately, the danger and instability that Hopper explored in the project that made his career, became the cinematic symbol of the period, and blew their union apart?Easy Rider.Everybody Thought We Were Crazy is at once a fascinating account of the Hopper and Hayward union and a deeply researched, panoramic cultural history. It's the intimate saga of one couple whose own rise and fall?from youthful creative flowering to disorder and chaos?mirrors the very shape of the decade.

Forming his first band at thirteen, Marr spent his teenage years in public housing, playing guitar, devouring pop culture, and inventing his own musical style. It wasn't until the early eighties, when Marr turned up on the doorstep of a singer named Steven Patrick Morrissey, that both a unique songwriting partnership and the group recognized as one of the most iconic bands of all time were formed. In 1983, The Smiths released their first single, and within a year their eponymous debut album reached number two in the UK chart, paving the way for mainstream and critical success on their own terms. Fame in America, where The Smiths were beloved by fans desperate for a musical alternative to the power rock dominating the airwaves. "Marjorie White" details the life story of an actress of the '20s and '30s, a top starlet of her day, but virtually forgotten today. She was among the most talented of young comediennes of her era, and had she not died tragically at such a young age, on the very verge of top stardom, would have been among the names most highly remembered these years later, as the equal of such silver-screen luminaries as Jean Harlow, Betty Hutton, Martha Raye, and the others who achieved their own fame in that "Golden Age" of stage and cinema.Born in the provinces of Canada, she was an outgoing performer from her earliest childhood, Worked the WWI years with the Winnipeg Kiddies performing troupe, and went on to acclaim on the Vaudeville stage, and made her screen debut in the light musicals of the late 1920s. With but 15 films to her credit, her inborn Joie De Vie and outgoing elan, she easily stole the show and overshadowed even the biggest names to whom she played "second fiddle."Her story in these pages should remind everyone why she deserves to chronicled to performance history and remembered with a warm smile. Sometimes humorous, other times sadly ironic, it should bring to everyone's heart a soft "if only, if only."Gary Olszewski, an avid theater historian, began this book after seeing her play the lead in 1934's "Woman Haters", billed top and above the 3 Stooges, and started with the thought "Who was she, and whatever became of her?" Upon researching her life and career, he embarked on a comprehensive biographical/historical journey of her and her family ancestry, which dates to Scotland"s House of Stuart in the 1600s. Gary is a semi-retired Vietnam veteran, and currently lives in Las Vegas, Nevada, where he continues his literary pursuits.

The aim of this research is to evaluate the management of Hospital Waste (HW) in the city of Matola, in particular the Matola Provincial Hospital (HPM). The method used to achieve the objectives was a quantitative, discrete qualitative and exploratory approach. To this end, the quantities of the types of waste generated were specifically determined, and management practices were assessed in accordance with current legislation at national level. It was concluded that the HPM generates several categories of waste, namely: common waste, infectious waste, sharps, chemical waste, radioactive waste and finally biological waste. The quantification of hospital waste generated at the HPM revealed a generation rate of 216.6 kg/day and 1083 kg/week. It should be noted that of the total generated each week, around 600 kg is non-hazardous waste and around 483 kg is hazardous. As far as hospital waste management practices at HPM are concerned, it can be concluded that they are not being carried out properly and therefore need to be more closely monitored. Although some of the practices required by current legislation in Mozambique have been observed.

"It is remarkable and significant that these two men both emerged out of the Austrian decadence in 1874 - both of them destined to cause a truly salutary disturbance of vital importance to European culture." (Ernst Krenek, 1934)On the occasion of the 150th birthdays of Arnold Schönberg and Karl Kraus, the intellectual affinities of two of the most influential figures of Viennese Modernism are highlighted for the first time in a publication. The musical visionary Schönberg and the media-critical writer Kraus inscribed themselves in an era rich in artistic, social and political explosions.Advocating progress in music, Schönberg embodied the courage to break with conventions. In keeping with the interdisciplinary orientation of Viennese Modernism, the composer also expressed himself as a writer and painter. As a censor of language, Kraus fought an unrelenting battle against corrupting newspaper phrases, double standards and esthetic uniformity. The two jubilarians were united by an unspoken understanding of artistic and social matters, and by a shared ethical program which aimed at a claim to truth in all areas of art.The correspondence between Schönberg and Kraus, edited and commented in full for the first time, reveals parallels, but also discontinuities and ruptures in an acquaintance that lasted over four decades. Contemporary testimonies from the fields of architecture, poetry, painting and music form the basis of a cross-media panorama of intellectual and artistic crossroads.New music in Vienna around 1900 is addressed in the publication, as is the influence of the reader Kraus on Schönberg's aesthetics of Sprechstimme. In style and ideas, the composer proves to be a prolific reader of the legendary periodical "Die Fackel" published by Kraus. Schönberg and Kraus shared the experience of an eventful conditio Judaica in the shadow of rising National Socialism. Schönberg's emigration to the USA in the fall of 1933 marked a turning point in the relationship between the two Viennese artists. Schönberg's exile library proves that Kraus remained a key reference for him.
