During the late 1950s and early 1960s, after the shock of Elvis Presley and before the Beatles spearheaded the British Invasion, fourteen gifted young songwriters huddled in midtown Manhattan's legendary Brill Building and a warren of offices a bit farther uptown and composed some of the most beguiling and enduring entries in the Great American Songbook. The Limeliters were the most vibrant urban folk group of the early 1960s, second only to the Kingston Trio in popularity at their peak. They were a diverse, volatile mix of highly intelligent personalities: Lou Gottlieb, a bass-playing comic with a Ph.D. in musicology; Alex Hassilev, a debonair virtuoso banjo player fluent in six languages; and Glenn Yarbrough, an independent-minded, hugely gifted natural tenor. They recorded a string of best-selling albums for RCA Victor, made TV appearances and commercials, and toured North America and Europe 300 days out of the year at the height of the folk revival era. In 1963, the three went their separate, erratic ways for the next ten years. Alex became a record producer and actor; Glenn went solo, had a big hit record, "Baby, the Rain Must Fall," but yearned to become a full-time sailor; and Lou had a mid-life crisis, grew his hair long, took LSD, and founded the notorious hippie commune, Morningstar Ranch, in Northern California. Eventually the trio reunited in 1973 and became a successful touring act, surviving with various changes in personnel to this day. The saga of Lou, Alex and Glenn is also the story of many of the cultural ideas and trends of the second half of the 20th century in America-how they influenced their times, and how the times affected them. Author Richard S. Ginell, who has known and interviewed the trio over a span of more than four decades, brings the whole slightly fabulous story of The Limeliters to life for the first time.

Dan is het aan Marka, die op een luchtige, humoristische en ietwat jongensachtige manier het ontstaan van het door de blonde Sarah Osborne aangevuurde Allez Allez, uit de doeken doet. Veel repeteren in vochtige repetitiehokken leidt de band naar de studio waar ze hun klassiekers 'Allez Allez' en 'African Queen' opnemen. De toon is gezet voor vele optredens, tournees en plaatopnames. Toch komt er jammer genoeg veel te vlug een einde aan het geluk, wanneer Sarah in Engeland huwt en er ook blijft. De overige leden weten maar al te goed dat dit het einde is van een hemels avontuur.Dit alles en nog veel meer beschrijft Marka in dit werk. "Hail! bright Cecilia, hail to thee. Great patroness of us and harmony!" - mit diesem Ausruf beginnt der Schlusschor aus Henry Purcells gleichnamiger Cäcilien-Ode aus dem Jahr 1692. Seit einem Beschluss der Londoner "Musical Society" im Jahre 1683 wurde einer alten Tradition folgend jährlich am 22. November der Cäcilientag mit Gottesdienst und anschließender großer Festmusik zu Ehren Cäcilias feierlich begangen. Purcell komponierte zu diesem Anlass über die Jahre mehrere Oden, von denen die hier vorgelegte aus dem Jahr 1692 zu den beliebtesten zählt. Johann Sebastian Bachs Magnificat BWV 243 entstand in seiner ersten Form in Es ganz zu Beginn von Bachs Leipziger Amtszeit, möglicherweise zu Mariae Heimsuchung am 2. Juli 1723. Eine Aufführung am 1. Weihnachtstag 1723 ist gut dokumentiert. Zu diesem Anlass fügte Bach, einer Leipziger Tradition folgend, vierweihnachtliche Einlagesätze hinzu.Erst in den 1730er Jahren bearbeitete Bach das Magnificat zur bekannten Fassung in D. Er veränderte die Instrumentation, vor allem aber wurden die größten aufführungspraktischen Probleme der Es-Dur-Fassung entschärft. In dieser Fassung in D ist das Magnificat in der kritischen Carus-Ausgabe des Bach-Experten Ulrich Leisinger enthalten, basierend auf Bachs Partiturautograph.Im Klavierauszug sind die Einlagesätze für weihnachtliche Aufführungen als Anhang enthalten; Partitur und Stimmen stehen für die Einlagesätze separat zur Verfügung (Carus 31.243/50).

Das Te Deum ist nach Missa Latina und Magnificat die dritte größere Komposition des Musikers und Komponisten Karl Albrecht "Bobbi" Fischer bei Carus. Fischers musikalische Wurzeln liegen in der traditionell-klassischen Musik, die er mit Jazz-Elementen und lateinamerikanischer Rhythmik verbindet.Alle drei Stile prägen auch das Te Deum. Der Textaussage "Te Deum laudamus" (Dich loben wir, Gott) entsprechend beginnt es festlich (kubanisch) treibend mit Pauken und Trompete; auch der Chor ahmt Fanfaren nach. Im weiteren Verlauf sind A-cappella-Chöre ein wiederkehrendes Element, die gregorianisch vertonte Phrasen vor changierendem Akkord-Hintergrund präsentieren. Aber auch Swing, Rhythm & Blues, frenetischer Chor-Jubel sowie mystisch-kontemplatives Momente fehlen nicht. Den Instrumentalisten ist reichlich Gelegenheit für improvisierte Soli geboten.In das ansonsten lateinische Werk ist der bekannte Choral Großer Gott, wir loben dich verwoben. Hier können mehrere Strophen mit dem Plenum gesungen werden, alternativ zum deutschen Originaltext auch in der eingeführten englischen Übertragung "Holy God, we praise thy name", die ebenfalls abgedruckt ist. Centered around a trio of compositions produced using a novel algorithm for texture synthesis, the exhibition also featured three olfactory accords selected by Marc vom Ende and Philip Kraft of Symrise, and three electrophoretic displays transmitting a libretto by Robin Mackay.The molecular construction of sensory experience enabled by the technical manipulation and synthesis of materials emerges as a central theme of Resynthesizers. The regime of these ‘immaterials’ disjoins sensation from inherited conceptual models, and in the encounter with its resyntheses we are challenged to reintegrate sense and formulate new concepts.Designed by NORM, Zurich, this meticulously assembled document features exhibition documentation by Fredrik Nilsen Studio and data visualizations by Axel Roebel alongside essays by Wendy Hui Kyong Chun and Alex H. In short, SARS-COV is the virus that causes the coronavirus responsible for the ongoing pandemic that began in 2020, killing thousands of people around the world. Due to this pandemic, educational institutions were closed, and the entire dynamics of classes had to be adapted from in-person teaching to remote teaching, as a result, it is believed that the quality of teaching was compromised. The objective of this study was to verify the performance of students of higher education courses in the chemistry area of the Federal University of Maranhão - UFMA, besides analyzing the perspectives of remote education in the same institution. The methodology used was the data collection extracted from Google Forms available on Google Drive, containing multiple choice questions aimed at remote/hybrid teaching of chemistry, applied to students of the courses of Chemistry Degree, Chemistry Bachelor's Degree, Chemical Engineering and Industrial Chemistry of UFMA. According to the results, 70.20% of the students said that the educational institution made internet available in the pandemic, and many students stressed dissatisfaction with the institution's products.
