This study focuses on the formalization of a fundamental experience of human existence: the act of perception. Unlike most other linguistic research dealing with the "prototypical" verbs of visual and auditory perception, it concentrates on the complicated polysemy of the multimodal verb sentir. The findings provide important new insight into the linguistic expression of perception in general.

How and in which direction(s) is research in Ibero-Romance historical linguistics evolving? Now that the initial enthusiasm for the possibilities of digital corpora has worn off, the essays gathered in this volume reflect a more critical approach: corpora are being refined, while researchers discuss not only how reliable and representative they can be, but also ways in which to tackle certain gaps of the discipline.

Avraam Moshe Tadjer published his Notas istorikas sovre los djudyos de Bulgaria i la komunita de Sofya in Judeo-Spanish and Rashi script in 1932. The work is an essential document for the history of this Sephardic community and one of the last Judeo-Spanish texts published in Bulgaria before World War II. This book offers a critical edition of Notas istorikas preceded by a detailed cultural-historical and linguistic study.

The Diarii, faithful chronicle of the years between 1496 and 1533 written by the Venetian patrician Marino Sanuto, are considered an indispensable reference work for research on the late Renaissance. This present study provides a detailed linguistic and philological analysis of the Diarii, based on the edition Fulin et al. (1879¿1903) as well as on excerpts of autographic manuscripts (Marc.It. VII, 228¿286).

Quantification is central to human experience (cf. Aristotle's Organon): the most basic aspects of human life and reasoning involve quantity assessment. This study sheds lights on a highly frequent way to express quantification in Spanish, viz. the binominal quantifier (e.g. un aluvionN1 de llamadasN2 'a flood of calls') which assesses the quantity of N2 in terms of N1. This volume offers a corpus-based, cognitive-functional analysis of binominal quantifiers (BQ) in Spanish. The first part is dedicated to the development of BQs and starts from the assumption that BQs are cross-linguistically involved in grammaticalization. This monograph frames the history of BQs in Spanish in terms of constructional levels of change and highlights the complex interplay between analogical thinking and conceptual persistence. The second part motivates both the ample variation in the paradigm of quantifying nouns and their combinatorial pattern by the very same mechanism of conceptually-driven analogy. The study thus yields an innovative functional model of BQs in Spanish, in synchrony and in diachrony, with major implications for reference grammars and theory building.

Dieser literaturwissenschaftliche Sammelband geht von der allgemeinen Beobachtung aus, dass im Zeitalter des «digitalen Autors» die von der strukturalistischen und poststrukturalistischen Theoriebildung vorgebrachte Forderung nach dem «Tod des Autors» von der unaufhaltsamen, unkontrollierbaren «Auflösung des Autors» samt seiner Autorität über den eigenen Text überholt zu werden scheint. Diese Tendenz hat dazu beigetragen, dass der Autorschaftsdebatte ? initiiert durch deren Wiederaufnahme auf neugermanistischer Seite ? in den vergangenen Jahren verstärkt erneut auch die Aufmerksamkeit der altgermanistischen und mediolatinistischen Forschung, der Editionsphilologie wie der Rechtsgeschichte zuteil geworden ist. Diesem sich neu eröffnenden Diskursrahmen trägt der Sammelband nun erstmals auch in romanistischer Perspektive Rechnung, indem seine Beiträge danach fragen, unter welchen Voraussetzungen, in welchen Kontexten, mit welchen Verfahren und in welchen Funktionszusammenhängen sich «Autorschaft» in den romanischen Literaturen des Mittelalters konstituiert. Im Zentrum der Untersuchungen steht dabei weniger der bereits gut erforschte Status des «Autors» an sich als vielmehr die für die Mittelalterforschung inzwischen zentrale Frage nach Verfahren und Mustern der Begründung von Autorschaft. Diese Fokussierung beruht auf der Annahme, dass die mittelalterliche Literatur grundsätzlich auf normative Konzepte referiert, deren exemplarischer Gültigkeitsnachweis den einzelnen Text wesentlich legitimiert. Autorität gewinnen die Texte dabei in der Regel durch Strategien autoritativer Absicherung ? etwa durch den Bezug auf vorbildliche auctores, auf institutionelle Machtfaktoren sowie durch Strategien der Selbst-Authentifizierung.

There is no survey study to date that would have analyzed the history of spatial relations in Castilian Spanish, i.e. the prepositions, transitive adverbs as well as prepositional and adverbial locutions used for the spatial localization of entities. Based on an extensive corpus, this book offers a complete diasystematic characterization of these aspects and discusses new hypotheses with regard to their correlations.

Im Fokus dieser Untersuchung steht das nahesprachliche Italienisch von im Ruhrgebiet ansassigen Italienern, die aus Catania stammen. Es werden Unterschiede der Sprechweisen in Lautung und Prosodie herausgefiltert und damit messbar gemacht. Die Besonderheiten der phonetischen wie prosodischen Variation werden daruber hinaus mit denjenigen einer Sprechergruppe aus der Herkunftsprovinz Catania verglichen, um dialektale, innovative sowie kontaktbedingte Merkmale des Italienischen in der Migration beschreiben zu konnen. Auf der Webseite des Verlages werden zusatzlich Transkriptionen und Sprechproben aus dem RuhrCat-Korpus zur Verfugung gestellt (siehe Links im Tab Uberblick bzw. Overview).

Este estudio esta dedicado al castellano hablado en la Comunidad Autonoma Vasca (CAV o Pais Vasco) y, en particular, en Getxo. La autora investiga si el castellano hablado en esta region es una unica variedad, o bien se compone de diversas variedades, con un nucleo comun, usadas por los diferentes grupos de hablantes de la comunidad de comunicacion vasca. En la parte teorica, el estudio responde a esta pregunta elaborando una definicion de que debe entenderse por castellano del Pais Vasco teniendo en cuenta diversos factores sociales relevantes a la hora de describir la comunidad de comunicacion vasca. Le precede un amplio repaso de otros trabajos dedicados al castellano hablado en la CAV. En virtud de la definicion propuesta se anade un estudio basado en un corpus oral de 20 entrevistas con informantes castellanohablantes monolingues de Getxo. Realizado desde una perspectiva variacional, dicho estudio analiza, cualitativamente, 17 fenomenos linguisticos que se suelen considerar caracteristicos del castellano del Pais Vasco. Asimismo, se proporcionan datos cuantitativos sobre la ocurrencia de cada fenomeno. A partir de sus resultados, la autora razona cuales de los fenomenos estudiados forman parte del castellano de Getxo.

la ricerca sul primitivo sostrato della Sardegna ha coinvolto senza successo una legione di studiosi. Le tesi formulate finora si scontravano col carattere del tutto ermetico della toponomastica centrale dell'Isola, che restituiva strutture senza addentellati nelle lingue europee o extraeuropee confrontate. Il deficit principale degli approcci tradizionali consisteva nella mera ricerca casuale di omonimie tra forme, onomastiche e lessicali, sarde e di altre lingue a volte molto lontane. L'Autore del volume, dopo anni di ricerca intensa nelle aree piu arcaiche dell'Isola, ha sottoposto quasi un migliaio di microtoponimi, in larga parte serbati nella tradizione orale delle comunita montane, a una rigorosa analisi distribuzionale e frequenziale, derivandone poi una tipologia morfologica e fonologica del Paleosardo. I risultati cosi ottenuti hanno gettato luce sulla vera natura del sostrato paleosardo, ossia di una lingua di tipo agglutinante, che mostra palesi corrispondenze strutturali con le lingue paleoispaniche, in particolare col Paleobasco ricostruito e con l'Iberico. Una rassegna puntuale di corrispondenze strutturali, semantiche e onomastiche condotta fra Paleosardo, Paleobasco e Iberico conduce inesorabilmente alla deduzione che il Paleosardo rappresenta l'esito di varie migrazioni paleoispaniche avvenute in eta pre-neolitica e neolitica, con uno sviluppo autonomo e privo di ulteriori apporti fino all'eta nuragica. Nell'indagine si mettono in evidenza per la prima volta le componenti stratificate del sostrato paleosardo pre-semitico, vale a dire una componente primaria paleobasca e iberica, piu due componenti minori, una periindeuropea e una paleoindeuropea.

Die Arbeit analysiert aktuelle Entlehnungen und Lehnwortintegrationen im Franzosischen und in anderen romanischen Sprachen. In Abgrenzung zu traditionellen Ansatzen, die entsprechende Phanomene im Wesentlichen auf der Ebene der beteiligten Sprachsysteme betrachten, wird konsequent eine Perspektive zugrunde gelegt, die von den Sprachbenutzern und ihren einzelnen kommunikativen Handlungen ausgeht (methodologischer Individualismus, usage-based). Auf dieser Grundlage lasst sich eine groe Komplexitat der untersuchten Phanomene feststellen, die sich insbesondere darin manifestiert, dass haufig konkurrierende Varianten von Lehnwortern in der Zielsprache auftreten (z.B. frz. fuel/fioul, people/pipole). Wesentliches Ziel der Arbeit ist es, die Komplexitat dieser Phanomene in sprachwandeltheoretischer Hinsicht zu erfassen und eine kommunikationstheoretisch adaquate Modellierung zu erarbeiten; daruber hinaus wird im Rahmen umfassender Fallstudien analysiert, wie sich die Verwendung unterschiedlicher Varianten von Lehnwortern aus Sicht der Kommunikationsteilnehmer motivieren lasst. Insgesamt erweisen sich Entlehnung und Lehnwortintegration damit als dynamische Phanomene der sprachlichen Kreativitat, die letztlich zwischen den Kommunikationsteilnehmern verhandelt werden.
