This book constitutes the refereed post-proceedings of the second international joint workshops on Wireless and Mobility and on New Trends in Network Architectures and Services organized by the European Network of Excellence on Next Generation Internet, EURO-NGI 2005. The 19 revised full research papers presented together with 1 invited talk are organized in topical sections on wireless solutions, QoS support in next generation networks, and peer to peer architectures and algorithms.

The Asian Internet Engineering Conference (AINTEC) brings together researchers and engineers interested in practical and theoretical problems in Internet technologies. The conference aims at addressing issues pertinent to the Asian region with vast diversities of socio-economic and networking conditions while inviting high-quality and recent research results from the global inter- tional research community. The ?rst event was jointly organized by the Internet Education and Research Laboratory of the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) and the WIDE Project with support from the APAN-TH community. In response to the recent natural disaster in Asia, AINTEC 2005 solicited papers, among other things, on the survival of the Internet in order to provide alternative means of communication in emergency and chaotic situations. The main topics include: Mobile IP Mobile Ad Hoc and Emergency Networks Multimedia or Multi-Services IP-Based Networks Peer-to-Peer Measurement and Performance Analysis Internet over Satellite Communications There were 52 submissions to the Technical Program,and we selected the 18 papers presented in these proceedings. In addition, we have three invited papers and one invited position paper by leading experts in the ?eld. Finally, we would like to acknowledge the conference General Chair, K- chana Kanchanasut of AIT, and the Local Organizers team from AIT, namely, Pensri Arunwatanamongkol, Withmone Tin Latt and Yasuo Tsuchimoto, for organizing and arranging this conference. Welcometothe6thInternationalWorkshoponPassiveandActiveMeasurement, held in Boston, Massuchusetts. PAM 2005 was organized by Boston University, with ?nancial support from Endace Measurement Systems and Intel. PAM continues to grow and mature as a venue for research in all aspects of Internet measurement. This trend is being driven by increasing interest and activity in the ?eld of Internet measurement. To accommodate the increasing interest in PAM, this year the workshop added a Steering Committee, whose members will rotate, to provide continuity and oversight of the PAM workshop series. PAMplaysaspecialroleinthemeasurementcommunity. Itemphasizespr- matic, relevant research in the area of network and Internet measurement. Its focus re?ects the increasing understanding that measurement is critical to e?- tive engineering of the Internet's components. This is clearly a valuable role, as evidenced by the yearly increases in the number of submissions, interest in, and attendance at PAM. PAM received 84 submissions this year. Each paper was reviewed by three or four Program Committee (PC) members during the ?rst round. Papers that received con?icting scores were further reviewed by additional PC members or external reviewers (typically two). After all reviews were received, each paper with con?icting scores was discussed extensively by its reviewers, until a c- sensus was reached. The PC placed particular emphasis on selecting papers that were fresh and exciting research contributions. Also, strong preference was given to papers that included validation results based on real measurements.

The Internet is subject to permanent modi?cations and to continuous restr- turing. This is primarily due to the tremendous rise in demand for bandwidth by the ever increasing number of users. When compared to the early years of the Internet the quality of the services o?ered had to be signi?cantly improved in di?erent respects (delay, network and service availability, jitter,. . . )inorder to satisfy the needs of many new applications. Within the last decade two new developments have contributed to many new opportunities, as well as to a need for intensive research and development: - the increased mobility of users together with the desire for ubiquitous hi- quality access to all o?ered services, at reasonable cost; - the use of wireless communication. Despite their relatively low capacity (when compared with ?xed backbone n- works) the use of radio links supports the ubiquitous availability of Internet services in a quasiperfect way. A considerable amount of research and development activities are currently - ing on worldwide in order to adapt Internet services to the particular needs of mobile users and of wireless communication links. These questions were - tensively discussed at the ?rst workshop organized by the EURO-NGI Network of Excellence ('Next Generation Internet'), which has been funded by the - ropean Union since January 2004 under their IST programme.

The book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the First International Conference on Distributed Computing in Sensor Systems, DCOSS 2005, held in Marina del Rey, California, USA in June/July 2005.The 26 revised full papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from 85 submissions; also included are the abstracts of 3 invited talks, 2 short papers, 9 invited poster abstracts, and 10 contributed abstracts.The papers address all current aspects of distributed computing issues in large-scale networked sensor systems, including systematic design techniques and tools, algorithms, and applications.

Ad hoc and sensor networks are making their way from research to real-world deployments. Body and personal-area networks, intelligent homes, environmental monitoring or inter-vehicle communications: there is almost nothing left that is not going to be smart and networked. While a great amount of research has been devoted to the pure networking aspects, ad hoc and sensor networks will not be successfully deployed if security, dependability, and privacy issues are not addressed adequately.As the first book devoted to the topic, this volume constitutes the thoroughly refereed post-proceedings of the First European Workshop on Security in Ad-hoc and Sensor Networks, ESAS, 2004, held in Heidelberg, Germany in August 2004. The 17 revised full papers were carefully reviewed and selected from 55 submissions. Among the key topics addressed are key distribution and management, authentication, energy-aware cryptographic primitives, anonymity and pseudonymity, secure diffusion, secure peer-to-peer overlays, and RFIDs.

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 8th IFIP WG 6.6 International Conference on Monitoring and Securing Virtualized Networks and Services, AIMS 2014, held in Brno, Czech Republic, in June/July 2014. The 9 full papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from 29 submissions. The volume also includes 13 papers presented at the AIMS Ph.D. workshop. They were reviewed and selected from 27 submissions. The full papers are organized in topical sections on emerging infrastructures for networks and services; experimental studies for security management; and monitoring methods for quality-of-service and security. The workshop papers are organized in topical sections on management of virtualized network resources and functions; security management; SDN and content delivery; monitoring and information sharing.

This book constitutes the thoroughly refereed post-conference proceedings of the 7th IFIP TC 6 International Workshop on Self-Organizing Systems, IWSOS 2013, held in Palma de Mallorca, Spain, in May 2013. The 11 revised full papers and 9 short papers presented were carefully selected from 35 paper submissions. The papers are organized in following topics: design and analysis of self-organizing and self-managing systems, inspiring models of self-organization in nature and society, structure, characteristics and dynamics of self-organizing networks, self-organization in techno-social systems, self-organized social computation and self-organized communication systems.

These are the proceedings of IPTComm 2008 - the Second Conference on Pr- ciples,Systems andApplications ofIP Telecommunications-heldinHeidelberg, Germany, July 1-2, 2008. The scope of the conference included recent advances in the domains of convergent networks, VoIP security and multimedia service environments for next generation networks. The conference attracted 56 s- missions, of which the Program Committee selected 16 papers for publication. The review process followed strict standards: each paper received at least three reviews. The Grid computing concept, which allows users to integrate administratively and g- graphically dispersed computing resources, has been gaining traction in a number of application areas during the past few years. By interconnecting many - heterogeneous, though usually virtualized - computing resources, virtual computer centers or superc- puters can be created, providing a seamless supply of computing resources. Grid comp- ing provides benefits not only for scientific computing (e.g., SETI@home, which interconnects one million computers across 226 countries with a total processing power of 711 TFLOPS) but also in a commercial environment. It is projected that computing Grids can lower the total IT costs of businesses by 30%. The report "e;Grid Computing: A Vertical Market Perspective 2005-2010"e; (by The Insight Research Corporation) estimates an increase of worldwide Grid spending from $714.9 million in 2005 to approximately $19.2 billion in 2010. One of the most prominent activities in academia is the EGEE project being funded with 30 MEuro by the European Commission. EGEE brings together researchers from over 27 countries with the common aim of developing a service Grid infrastructure, which is suited for scientific computing with very high demand for processing power.

The advent of the Internet has opened up a wealth of applications, but also given rise to a host of new problems. Many of those problems have led to - citing new research directions in mathematics and theoretical computer science, especially in the areas of combinatorics and algorithms. The Fourth Workshop on Combinatorial and Algorithmic Aspects of Networking (CAAN 2007) was organized to be a place where the latest research developments on all aspects of networking could be presented. The topics covered were diverse, with talks on strategies for searching in networks, for cleaning networks of unwanted - truders, on di?erent routing strategies, and on scheduling and load balancing. The workshop started with an invited lecture by Peter Winkler of Dartmouth College, who gave a general talk on a topic related to probability, a concept central to network modeling and managing. The afternoon opened with a short invited talk by Alejandro Lop ' ez-Ortiz, who gave an overview of various issues in designing resilient backbone networks. CAAN 2007 took place on August 14, 2007, at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, co-located with the Workshop on Algorithms and Data Structures (WADS 2007). Three previous CAAN workshops were held in Chester, UK (CAAN 2006), Waterloo, Ontario, Canada (CAAN 2005), and in Ban?, Alberta, Canada (CAAN 2004), respectively.

The 3rd Asian Internet Engineering Conference (AINTEC) followed the ?rst two successful editions held in Bangkok, Thailand, and focused on developing synergies between researchers in Asia and worldwide, but was also a unique chanceforyoung,talentedregionalscientiststomeetandinteract.AINTEC2007 wasthereforeamajoropportunityforpresentationsanddiscussionsaroundthese objectives. In particular, it aimed at addressing issues pertinent to the Asian region with vast diversities of socio-economic and networking conditions while inviting high-quality and recent research results from the global international research community to be presented. The conference is single-track to favor discussions among a diverse set of participants. We want to thank the authors of the 66 papers submitted for considering AINTEC as the right target for their paper. The submissions came from 18 countries with, as expected, a majority from Asia. The program was composed of 14 accepted papers organized in 6 technical sessions including 7 invited talks by leading experts on innovative topics, presentations of papers, demos, posters and a pre-conference18th Asian School on Computer Science (November, 25-26 2007). You might think that AINTEC is yet another conference but it has di?erent objectives and spirit, it o?ers a great opportunity to discuss future challenges for a sustainable Internet, and to get to know the local and regional researchers and enjoy the great hospitality of Thailand.

On behalf of the IEEE Communications Society, the Technical Committee on Network Operations and Management (CNOM), the Manweek 2007 Organizing Committee, and the members of the IPOM Technical Program Committee, it is our pleasure to present the proceedings of the Seventh IEEE Workshop on IP Operations and Management (IPOM2007), held as part of Manweek 2007 during October 31-November 2, 2007. With the widespread deployment of IP-based networks, their operations and management have become increasingly important in terms of understanding emerging technical and scientific problems; lessons from such understanding are particularly important for future Internet design and management. Like the previous IPOM workshops, IPOM 2007 was co-located with several related events as part of the 3rd International Week on Management of Networks and Services (Manweek 2007). The other events were the 10th IFIP/IEEE International Conference on Management of Multimedia and Mobile Networks and Services (MMNS 2007), the 18th IFIP/IEEE International Workshop on Distributed Systems: Operations and Management (DSOM 2007), the 2ndIEEE International Workshop on Modeling Autonomic Communications Environments (MACE 2007), and the 1st IEEE/IFIP International Workshop on End-to-End Virtualization and Grid Management (EVGM 2007). Co-locating those events provided the opportunity for an exchange of ideas between research communities that work on related topics, allowing participants to forge links and exploit synergies.

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the Second International Workshop on Self-Organizing Systems, IWSOS 2007. The 17 revised full papers and five revised short papers presented together with two invited talks were carefully selected from more than 36 submissions. The papers are organized in topical sections on ad hoc routing, peer-to-peer networking, network topology, adaptive and self-organizing networks and multicast and mobility protocols.

You hold in your hands the proceedings of ESAS 2007, the Fourth European Workshop on Security and Privacy in Ad hoc and Sensor Networks. The wo- nd rd shop took place in Cambridge, UK, on the 2 and 3 of July 2007. The workshop was European in name and location but it was de?nitely transatlantic in scope. We had a program chair from Europe and one from the USA, and membership of our program committee was almost evenly split - tween those two regions. When looking at participation, the workshop was even more global than that: the submitted papers came from 25 countries in 6 con- nents. We received 87 submissions. After quick-rejecting 5 papers deemed to be out of scope, the remaining 82 papers were each reviewed by at least three PC members. The two program chairs, who did not submit any works, had sole authoritytodecidewhichpaperstoacceptandreject,basedonlyonthedirective that quality had to be the primary criterion, in order to form a proceedings volume of high international relevance. The number of papers to be accepted was not set in advance: it was selected a posteriori so as to include only solid, innovative and insightful papers. The resulting acceptance rate of about 20%, very strict for a workshop, is a testimonial of how selective we chose to be in accepting only high quality papers.

Globally, major network operators have incorporated network convergence into their strategy to grow service revenues and reduce capital and operating costs. Conv- gence occurs in applications (integrated messaging, voice over IP), in network control (portable numbers, SIP, mobile IP), in the transport layer, as well as in the access network. This convergence of networks means that various types of traffic flows, which have been carried by separate specialized networks, now share the resources of a single core IP-based network. In the access, the trends are towards fixed/wireless convergence as well as convergence of various wireless access technologies. Network convergence will be successful only if the quality of the individual s- vices is maintained in the new network environment without undue increased costs. The quality of service delivery is critically dependent on how network performance and availability, as experienced by the traffic flows, are managed. Managing traffic performance is a critical enabler for success. Reaching the desired performance levels requires adapting processes such as network planning, resource engineering, and network monitoring to the converged network milieu.

The optical networking field is seen to be rapidly emerging with a strong and s- tained technological and business growth. Research has led to massive development and deployment in the optical networking space leading to significant advancements in high speed network core and access networks. th The 11 International Conference on Optical Network Design and Modeling brought together scientists and researchers to meet and exchange ideas and recent work in this emerging area of networking. The conference was sponsored by IFIP and supported by the e-Photon/ONe and COST 291 projects. The conference proceedings have been published by Springer and are also available through the Springer digital library. The conference program f- tured 14 invited presentations and 41 contributed papers selected from over 90 s- missions. A series of sessions focusing on recent developments in optical networking and the related technology issues constituted the main conference program. The international workshop "e;Optical network perspectives vs. optical technologies th reality"e; was collocated with ONDM 2007 and took place on May 29 . It was org- ized by the EU COST 291 action. The objective of the workshop was to focus on cross layer issues and address various challenges with respect to the implementation of optical networking concepts based on available optical technology capabilities.

th This volume presents the proceedings of the 6 IEEE International Workshop on IP Operations and Management (IPOM 2006), which was held as part of Manweek 2006 rd th in Dublin, Ireland from October 23 to 25 , 2006. In line with its reputation as one ofthe pre-eminent venues for the discussion and debate of advances of management of IP networks and services, the 2006 iteration of IPOM brought together an international audience of researchers and practitioners from both industry and academia. The overall theme of Manweek 2006 was "e;Autonomic Component and System Management"e;,with IPOM taking this to be the application of autonomic principles to the IP operations, administration, maintenance and provisioning (OAM&P) domain. IPOM 2006 is more relevant than ever to the emerging communications infrastr- ture that is increasingly focused on "e;convergence"e; of networks and services. Although arguably over-hyped, there is a fundamental truth to this convergence story, and this is based on the fact that the TCP/IP protocol suite (IPv4 and IPv6) has become the common denominator for a plethora of such converged services. One good example in the period between IPOM 2005 and IPOM 2006 has been the large scale deployment of consumer VoIP, linked to the success of Skype and alternatives including SIP-based approaches. In many countries VoIP is driving broadband deployment for SMEs where real costs savings can be accrued, especially for companies with remote staff in the ?eld.
