The main themes of the Symposium were biodiversity in enclosed and semi-enclosed seas and artificial habitats, and the restoration of degraded systems. The papers dealing with the first theme represent current research and concerns about marine biodiversity in enclosed seas.
This interdisciplinary volume comprehensively reviews recent developments in wetland science and global change. The major strength of this volume is that it integrates several fields of research including climatology, hydrology, geomorphology, ecology and biology.
Freshwater Biodiversity is a much underestimated component of global biodiversity, both in its diversity and in its potential to act as models for fundamental research in evolutionary biology and ecosystem studies.
Proceedings of the 17th BMB Symposium, 25-29 November 2001, Stockholm, Sweden
Papers submitted by Participants at the Conference "Science and the Sustainable Management of Shallow Tropical Waters" held at Kenya Wildlife Services Training Institute, Naivasha, Kenya, 11-16 April 1999, together with those from additional studies on the lake
Proceedings of the 11th Workshop of the International Association of Phytoplankton Taxonomy and Ecology (IAP), held at Shrewsbury, UK, 15-23 August 1998
This multidisciplinary volume comprehensively reviews our current knowledge of the effects of urban, industrial and agricultural pollution on the biology of shallow coastal marine lagoons.
A compilation of refereed papers from the International Symposium held in St. Petersburg, Russia, September 12-17, 1994
Proceedings of the First International Lake Ladoga Symposium: Ecological Problems of Lake Ladoga, St. Petersburg, Russia, 22-26 November 1993
This volume combines articles on shallow lakes from leading European scientists in limnology. The volume provides a comprehensive overview of the ecology of shallow lakes, a lake type which differs in prominent ways from deeper lakes.
The collection presents the diversity of approaches that have been used, and provides future directions for the study of `molecular ecology' of aquatic communities, from viruses to fish, and in aquatic systems ranging from freshwater streams and lakes to estuaries and oceans.
Proceedings of a Conference held in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, 18-19 April, 1991
Proceedings of the 10th Workshop of the International Association of Phytoplankton Taxonomy and Ecology (IAP), held in Granada, Spain, 21-29 June 1996
Proceedings of the International PELAG Symposium, August 26-30, 1996 in Helsinki, Finland
Proceedings of the 31st European Marine Biology Symposium, held in St. Petersburg, Russia 9-13 September 1996
In this age of increased fundamental and applied research on biodiversity, no single volume was as yet devoted to the various temporal and spatial aspects of aquatic biodiversity.
This book provides the focal point of the European Water Framework Directive. offering insight into principles and methodologies of river assessment, covering the whole range from the definition of river typologies to specific problems such as the most appropriate taxonomic resolution and software applications.
This work presents the state of the art of aquatic and semi-aquatic ecological restoration projects in The Netherlands. Starting from the conceptual basis of restoration ecology, the successes and failures of hundreds of restoration projects are described.
Proceedings of the Workshop on Biogeography of Freshwater Algae, held during the Fifth International Phycological Congress, Qingdao, China, July 1994
Proceedings of the Joint BMB 15 and ESCA 27 Symposium (June 9-13, 1997, Aland Islands, Finland)
Wetlands could be described as land and water at Tropical wetlands: one and the same time, and as such are very specific on the brink ecosystems. Whatever the reasons, often perceived as obstacles to human development many tropical wetlands still exist and support the and well-being.
Proceedings of the 8th Workshop of the International Association of Phytoplankton Taxonomy and Ecology held in Baja (Hungary), July 5-15, 1991
The volume starts with comparative reservoir limnology and deals with problems relating to tropical, semi-arid and temperate reservoirs. In the third, on reservoir water quality management, the potential available in fish population management for biomanipulation of reservoir water quality is introduced.
Proceedings of the Second International Symposium on Cladocera, Tatranska Lomnica, Czechoslovakia, September 13-20, 1989
Proceedings of the Joint Congress of Limnology and Oceanography held in Marseilles, June 26-29, 1989
Phytoplankton responses to human impact at different scales provides a state-of-the-art review of changes in the phytoplankton assemblages determined by human alterations of lakes and rivers.
