Crazy Train was co-written by one of Mark Wood's main influences and favorite guitar players, Randy Rhoads, a neo-classical rock guitar player. When Wood discovered him, Rhoads was fully entrenched in the standard rock/blues style, yet had wonderful control of the flourish and esthetic of classical music in his playing. The influence was perfect for Mark Wood, who was an up-and-coming rock violinist at the time.

Mark Wood originally recorded Vivaldi Rocks on his These Are a Few of My Favorite Things CD playing his seven-string Viper electric violin, but the solo part can be performed on the traditional acoustic four-stringed instrument. The composer prefers the sound of the electric instrument, so consider at least using a microphone with a standard instrument for amplification.

Fireball was originally composed for the television broadcast of the bike race, Tour de France, for CBS Sports. The footage that inspired me featured dozens of bike racers at top speed racing down a mountain road. The stress and competition forces the riders into extremely dangerous situations reflected in the music. Thank you to Lynne Latham for the great ending idea. (2:25)

The composer, Mark Wood, writes: Come Fly with Me comes from my personal visualization of flying while improvising music. In writing a work which combines classical and American rock styles, I have created a vehicle for musicians to spread their wings and truly learn the beautiful art of composing their own music on the spot in the improvisation section.
