This book is a revision and extension of my 1995 Sourcebook of Control Systems Engineering.
These systems have extremely fast implementations, but sender and receiver have to share a secret key. Public key cryptosystems (the second main area) make it possible to protect data without a prearranged key. The remaining chapters cover a variety of topics, such as zero-knowledge proofs, secret sharing schemes and authentication codes.
Optical communications networks are an essential part of the world wide te- communication infrastructure . The use of transmission techniques such as WDM in combination with optical crossconnects is enabling optical networking at high bit-rates reaching terabits per second .
Advanced Video-Based Surveillance Systems presents second generation surveillance systems that automatically process large sets of signals for performance monitoring tasks.
The book gives an overview of the state-of-the-art in SigmaDelta design and of the challenges for future realizations. It provides an understanding of the fundamental power efficiency of SigmaDelta converters. exchanging analog for digital conditioning, comes at a major power penalty.
One of the ultimate goals in Robotics is to create autonomous robots. Making progress toward autonomous robots is of major practical inter est in a wide variety of application domains including manufacturing, construction, waste management, space exploration, undersea work, as sistance for the disabled, and medical surgery.
Proceedings of the Fifth International Conference on Fundamentals of Adsorption
Discrete Event Systems: Analysis and Control is the proceedings of WODES2000 (the 5th Workshop on Discrete Event Systems, held in Ghent, Belgium, on August 21-23, 2000).
The book is organized into three parts: Curves and Codes, Codes and Signals, and Signals and Information. Codes, Curves, and Signals: Common Threads in Communications is a tribute to the broad and profound influence of Richard E.
Brings together knowledge relating 3D geospatial data collection, design issues, and techniques used in synthetic environments design, implementation and interoperability. This book describes techniques for the generation of Synthetic Environments with resolution and attribution, both useful for accurate modeling and simulation.
Discusses ESD protection circuit design problems from an IC designer's perspective. This book provides both fundamental and advanced materials needed by a circuit designer for designing ESD protection circuits. It can be used as a reference book for working IC designers and as a textbook for students in the IC design field.
It is my ambition in writing this book to bring tribology to the study of control of machines with friction.
This book presents a detailed summary of research on automatic layout of device-level analog circuits that was undertaken in the late 1980s and early 1990s at Carnegie Mellon University.
High-Q inductor integration and simulation in CMOS is elaborated and flicker noise minimization techniques are presented, ranging from bias point choice to noise filtering techniques.
This revision is comprehensive and explains how to develop, implement and manage an ESD control program, and includes up-to-date data, many new chapters, new case studies, and much more.
Conventional block-based segmentation algorithms classify each block separately, assuming independence of feature vectors. Image Segmentation and Compression Using Hidden Markov Models presents a new algorithm that models the statistical dependence among image blocks by two dimensional hidden Markov models (HMMs).
Knowledge discovery (KDD) and Data Mining (DM) is a new, multidisciplinary field that focuses on the overall process of information discovery from large volumes of data.
Artificial Intelligence is entering the mainstream of com puter applications and as techniques are developed and integrated into a wide variety of areas they are beginning to tax the pro cessing power of conventional architectures. To meet this demand, specialized architectures providing support for the unique features of symbolic processing languages are emerging. The goal of the research presented here is to show that an archi tecture specialized for Prolog can achieve a ten-fold improve ment in performance over conventional, general-purpose architec tures. This book presents such an architecture for high perfor mance execution of Prolog programs. The architecture is based on the abstract machine descrip tion introduced by David H.D. Warren known as the Warren Abstract Machine (W AM). The execution model of the W AM is described and extended to provide a complete Instruction Set Architecture (lSA) for Prolog known as the PLM. This ISA is then realized in a microarchitecture and finally in a hardware design. The work described here represents one of the first efforts to implement the W AM model in hardware. The approach taken is that of direct implementation of the high level WAM instruction set in hardware resulting in a elSe style archi tecture.
High-Performance Digital VLSI Circuit Design is the first book devoted entirely to the design of digital high-performance VLSI circuits. High-Performance Digital VLSI Circuit Design is a self-contained text, introducing the subject of high-performance VLSI circuit design and explaining the speed/power tradeoffs.
Data mining is an interdisciplinary area involving databases, machine learning, pattern recognition, statistics, visualization and others. Decision support focuses on developing systems to help decision-makers solve problems. This book presents a conceptual framework, and the methods and tools for integrating the two disciplines.
Multimedia surveillance systems is an emerging field that includes signal and image processing, communications, and computer vision.
In 1982 the author joined a research group that was applying bounding techniques to simple VLSI timing analysis models. Acknowledgments 'me author would like to acknowledge many helpful discussions and much support from his research group at MIT, including Lance Glasser, John Wyatt, Jr.
A collection of contributions from world-renowned experts in coding theory, information theory, and signal processing, the book provides a broad perspective on contemporary research in these areas. Specific topics covered include convolutional codes and turbo codes;
When the 50th anniversary of the birth of Information Theory was celebrated at the 1998 IEEE International Symposium on Informa tion Theory in Boston, there was a great deal of reflection on the the year 1993 as a critical year.
Large computational resources are of ever increasing importance for the simulation of semiconductor processes, devices and integrated circuits. The Workshop on Computational Electronics was intended to be a forum for the dis cussion of the state-of-the-art of device simulation.
When it comes to frameworks, the familiar story of the elephant and the six blind philosophers seems to apply. xiv CAD Frameworks: Integration Technology for CAD As the authors of this book note, framework design is an optimi zation problem.
Focuses attention on some specific developments in the theory and applications of finite fields. This book studies topics such as the different methods of representing the elements of a finite field, algorithms for factoring polynomials over finite fields and methods for constructing irreducible polynomials.
With the increasing market penetration of cellular telephones, the number of E-911 calls placed by cellular telephones has grown cons- erably. Phase II, to be completed by October 1, 2001, is much more stringent and requires that the location of an E-911 caller be determined and reported with an rms location accuracy of 125 m in 67% of the cases.
