Embark on a unique literary pilgrimage with Chuck Stephens in "Ascent to Easter: Fragments on the Roots and Relevance of Easter." This collection of snapshots captures the ascent up a holy mountain, both metaphorical and geographical, spanning a six-and-a-half-week period in the calendar. Unlike traditional narratives, don't expect a defined plot or thesis. Instead, join a virtual pilgrimage, a journey that adds value to your personal "ascent to Easter." There's no certificate upon completion; virtue, in this case, is its own reward. Pilgrimages, much like the Canterbury Tales, have a starting point and a destination, yet it's the journey itself that leaves an indelible mark. Take your time with this book; let it rest on the coffee table until you're ready to delve into another chapter. It's not just a reading experience - illustrations accompany the text, providing moments for meditation. While the journey may seem familiar, nuances and thought-provoking content along the way enhance your existing memories. This guide, more devotional than academic, doesn't burden you with footnotes. Instead, for your reading ease, website quotes are italicized. "Ascent to Easter" is a literary companion that encourages reflection and exploration, reminding us that the journey can be as profound as the destination. Chuck Stephens invites you to discover Easter's roots and relevance in a fresh and meaningful way.

Honestly, I just loved this book. It opens your eyes to the sad and difficult times people went through during the war but also the happy times and how everyone pulled together.' Jessica's Book Biz, ¿¿¿¿¿ 'I am quickly falling in love with the author and the stories she weaves. There is just something majestic with the way the story flows. I get sucked in and don't realize until I finish that time has passed... I honestly cannot wait until this book releases in audiobook to hear it read! Don't let this one get past you readers!' Goodreads reviewer, ¿¿¿¿¿ 'Phenomenal... From that first sentence, I never put the book down again... I was so invested in their lives that the heartbreaks and losses that came with the war in the second half felt profoundly personal. I've never read a book set during the war that made me laugh out loud, only to make me weep a few pages later. This strange occurrence happened frequently throughout the book, confusing my grandchildren and our dogs... Many serious issues are woven brilliantly into the story but with unexpected comic relief too. The icing on the cake is a beautiful love story. Five stars aren't enough for this book... I loved it!' Addiction Is Not a Life Sentence Addiction is one of the most widespread and destructive health problems in the world today. More than twenty million Americans currently suffer from an active substance abuse disorder, while more than one billion people worldwide maintain regular addictions to intoxicating chemicals like alcohol and illicit drugs. Why are traditional treatment programs so unproductive and ineffective? The answer to this question may lie within the fact that addictive behaviors should be addressed not just from a physical but also from a spiritual perspective. Through the study of God's Word, addicts can be taught how to take advantage of the pragmatic powers of Christ and the Holy Spirit to wage war against their persistent addictive thoughts and behaviors. Ultimately, this book has been written to help addicts learn to focus on the nature and bounty of God's love in order to permanently subdue their stubborn cravings for the seductive forbidden fruits of addiction. "After many years of working in the field of chemical dependency, I have never found a more complete and insightful view of addiction, recovery, and spirituality." -Cindy Tidwell, MS, LPC, Professional Addiction Counselor

In seven and a half interlinked stories, Aaron Kreuter's Rubble Children tackles Jewish belonging, settler colonialism, Zionism and anti-Zionism, love requited and unrequited, and cannabis culture, all drenched in suburban wonder and dread. Sometimes realist, sometimes not, the book revolves around Kol B'Seder, a fictional Reform synagogue in the Toronto suburb of Thornhill. In these stories, the locked basement room in the home of the synagogue's de facto patriarch opens onto a life-altering windfall; visions of an omnipotent third temple terrify; rhythms of the Jewish and scholastic year collide in bong rips and hash hits; alternate versions of Israel/Palestine play out against domestic drama. In the title story, a group of Jewish girls obsessed with the Holocaust discover that they are far from the only people who live in the rubble of history. Engaging, funny, dark, surprising, Rubble Children is a scream of Jewish rage, a smoky exhalation of Jewish joy, a vivid dream of better worlds.

Quite a few years ago, I developed the idea for a seasonal book series which would go under the title Shepherd's Inn, a place where young people would spend some time as a transition between life and the next existence, whatever that might be. Cathie, my youngest daughter, shared her thoughts about such a project, and the series was born. It is my hope that somehow this first story will become a Christmas tradition, and the future books will become part of those annual traditions, such as Mother's Day, Thanksgiving, Valentine's Day, etc. I hope to write stories which will touch the hearts of those who read them. I believe that this first story and those that follow will one day be "discovered" by Hallmark and become a part of that system. This particular edition was published originally in 2013, and I sent the manuscript and a copy of the self-published book to Hallmark without any comment, other than all submissions must come from agents. I am still seeking an agent. It's sort of like a Catch 22; you can't get published without and agent, but agents don't like unpublished authors.
Maggie Cartwright never expected to find herself as a mercenary, never mind one facing an apocalyptic threat the world hasn't seen in living memory. A solitary auto mechanic and a smith by trade, she's more comfortable making blades than using them. Slaying monsters professionally is a difficult, hazardous job that's as likely to end with fangs in your throat as a solid paycheck, even for professionals working in a team. But in the land of the fae, fate doesn't care what she's comfortable with, and for Maggie, the danger of razor claws and ancient magic pales next to the danger posed by her own people's politics. Monsters can kill. Manipulation by the fae can do far more damage.Maggie's talents as a master smith make her valuable, and her former master's legacy makes her a target. With a city on the line and hellish monstrosities digging their way up from the deep, Maggie can't refuse the call to fight, and the battle cannot be won without allies. With the right friends, she could save hundreds of thousands of lives and get paid doing it. But if she can't learn who to trust, she won't be the only one who ends up dead....The following work contains depictions of verbal abuse, violence and mortal peril, death, mild gore, and peril to teenagers in a school setting.
