There's just one problem; the darkened, lightless, soulless house across the street where her nemesis lives. Miles Winston, a military sniper haunted by a life-altering mistake, lives across the street from the brightest house in the neighborhood. Clove believes that light and love can heal all wounds, while Miles wrestles with the notion that some scars are too deep for any brightness to reach. Their contrasting worldviews reach a boiling point when Clove's well-intentioned attempts to include Miles in the neighborhood festivities backfire, risking their burgeoning relationship and forcing them to confront whether they can ever truly reconcile their differences.

The Last Christmas Tree is a story of putting Jesus's "golden rule" as presented in Matthew 7:12, "Therefore all things what so ever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them," into a real-life situation. Matthew, the owner of the Christmas tree lot, connects with a family in need and puts the rule into practice. He sees the needs of John and his family of four, having lost his wife recently, and he decides he can help them as he would like to be helped if the situation were reversed. In part told from the point of view of the last Christmas tree on the lot, the story progresses through the help given by Matthew with his generosity and the joy and assistance it brings to John and his family despite their recent loss. The story is intended to inspire us to treat others as we want to be treated and to help those in need when we can. Although the situation John and his family are in is sad and painful, Matthew's acts of Christian love hopefully alleviate some of the pain of mourning that the family is feeling and inspire them to go on in Christ's love.
Orthodox churches in Ukraine and Russia share a common ecclesiastical tradition but differ in their views on practicing and interpreting it. To bolster their own views, different Orthodox churches emphasize different aspects of history, and >forget< others, not favorable for their interpretations. These intentional memorizing also influence on the churches' reflection of their position and role in society at large.Interpretations of ecclesiastical tradition also influence the Orthodox churches' reactions to the other churches in Ukraine. Abroad, ecclesiastical organizations, especially ecumenical bodies are also influenced by the Ukrainian Orthodoxy, and have influence on the Ukrainian and Russian Orthodoxy, when recognizing or leaving without recognition the multiplicity of the Orthodox faith in Ukraine and Russia.

"A combination of Henry David Thoreau and Jane Goodall, Carol is a self-taught scientist who has become a tireless defender of sea turtles on Cumberland Island, a national park off the coast of Georgia"--Page 4 of cover.
"[T]ells the thrilling and all-but-forgotten tale of an extraordinary artist and entrepreneur who fought setback after setback to create a wonder of the modern world. The quixotic and visionary sculptor Fraedaeric Auguste Bartholdi not only forged this 151-foot-tall colossus in a workshop in Paris and transported her across the ocean, but battled furiously to raise money for her construction, with little help from France or America. Notables of his age, including Ulysses S. Grant, Joseph Pulitzer, Victor Hugo, Gustave Eiffel, and Thomas Edison, were drawn into his scheme, which became one of the most audacious public projects the world had ever seen"--Back cover.
"Ben, a sports analytics wizard, loves baseball. Eric, his best friend, hates it. But when Ben writes an algorithm for the optimal baseball road trip, an impossible dream of every pitch of 30 games in 30 stadiums in 30 days, who will he call on to take shifts behind the wheel, especially when those shifts will include nineteen hours straight from Phoenix to Kansas City? Eric, of course. Will Eric regret it? Most definitely."--Book jacket.
"A gripping popular history. ... Vivid ... simultaneously fascinating and horrifying" -St. Louis Post-DispatchIn 1903, an elephant named Topsy was electrocuted on Coney Island, and ever since, this bizarre execution has reverberated through popular culture with the whiff of urban legend. But it really happened, and many historical forces conspired to bring Topsy, Thomas Edison, and those 6,600 volts of alternating current together. In Topsy, Michael Daly weaves them together into a fascinating popular history. The first elephant arrived in America in 1796, but it wasn't until after the Civil War that the circus entered its golden age, thanks especially to P.T. Barnum and Adam Forepaugh (or 4-Paw). With fantastic detail, Daly brings this world to life: caravans, crooks, and side-shows. And he captures the life of the animals, both the cruelties they suffered and, when treated with kindness, their remarkable feats. Rich in period Americana, and full of larger-than-life characters-both human and elephant-Topsy is a touching, entertaining read.
