"It begins with sincere dedication and a cordial meeting of minds. Artists in place, at home in the shop, concentrate on their tasks, shaping clay or carving wood, weaving wool or painting canvas. Folklorists in motion, away on the road, concentrate on their tasks, watching, listening, learning. In time, differences diminish, friendships develop, and people unite in collaborative records of thought and action. Now listen to the artists of the Brazilian Northeast. Their work, they say, comes of continuity and creativity. Continuity runs along lines of learning toward social coherence. Creativity brings challenges and deep personal satisfaction. What they say and do in Brazil aligns with ethnographic evidence from throughout the world. This book is about that, about folk art as a sign of human unity. Folk Art by Henry Glassie and Pravina Shukla joins their earlier book, Sacred Art: Catholic Saints and Candomble Gods in Modern Brazil (2018), to describe the contemporary art of northeastern Brazil and exemplify a method for the study of traditional creation"--

She began to lose contact with her surroundings while her hands touched her breasts and went over her flat belly towards a land unknown up until that moment. A deep sigh shook her body...” Emilia, Yaya, Esther, Raquel, and Camila are all part of a lineage marked by hidden pleasures, by sexual repression, and public scorn. ENGLISH TRANSLATION The Nobel laureate's most intense and personal collection of poems, with a prologue by Raúl Zurita. "The greatest poet of the twentieth century in every language." --Gabriel García Márquez "Neruda means a new man in the Americas, a sensibility with which every emotional American chapter opens. His high standard stems from his resounding differentiation." --Gabriela Mistral First published in 1933, and expanded in 1935, Residence on Earth is the great classic by "the greatest poet of the twentieth century in every language," in the words of Gabriel García Márquez. After writing Crepusculario and Twenty Love Poems and a Song of Despair, and due to a severe life crisis he suffered during his consular stay in Asia, Neruda embarked on the composition of this monumental book that marked a decisive break from his previous work and poetry in the Spanish language. Residence on Earth is one of Neruda's most original and exciting collection of poems, also one of the most daring for its avant-garde quality, indirectly linked to the surreal movement. A profound reflection of life, of the relationship between nature and human beings, about loss, and about our role in the universe.

Including additional images of Milhazes' previous sculptural works and new texts that illuminate her highly generative practice, the publication immerses readers in the artist's colorful, spiritual world. An essay by curator Mark Godfrey explores Milhazes' art as it relates to the terms "landscape" and "logo," "structure" and "spontaneity" and "surface" and "spirituality"; and a conversation between Milhazes and fellow artist Polly Apfelbaum delves into Milhazes' emergence within the international art scene and her relationship with her practice today.
