Bachelor Thesis from the year 2013 in the subject Didactics for the subject English - Pedagogy, Literature Studies, grade: 1,7, Christian-Albrechts-University of Kiel (Englisch), language: English, abstract: This bachelor thesis deals with the implementation of results from the field of second language acquisition research. In the introduction, the main idea and approach of the work is presented. The guiding question is: Are current research results used in schools and if so, how? For this purpose, the two leading textbooks in Germany are examined against previously established principles of second language acquisition. The base text for establishing these principles is "Principles of Instructed Language Learning" by Ellis Rod (2005). Following the introduction, the textbooks "Green Line" and "English G 21" are briefly introduced, and their selection is explained. In both cases, the fifth grade editions are analyzed due to these grades being at the beginning of their learning and because many of the principles established contain a special focus on this phase of learning. Furthermore, the curriculum itself is also considered, as it has a significant influence on the content of the textbooks. The second chapter then deals with the establishment of the principles. Based on Ellis' text, current research findings that are directly related to language teaching are summarized and with its help, implementation possibilities are suggested. These implementation possibilities, in turn, form the basis of the analysis of the textbooks.

It gives you access to the fast-growing areas to place yourself as a professional.
English-Medium Instruction (EMI) is a rapidly growing global phenomenon in countries where English is a second or foreign language. This book focuses on empirical research studies conducted on this growing trend in the Middle East and North Africa, an under-researched area with regards to the effects and challenges of the implementation of EMI in higher education. The contributors are researchers with first-hand experience in countries in the region, including Iran, Kuwait, Morocco, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, and Turkey. Each chapter follows a consistent structure, allowing comparisons to be drawn between policies and practices in different countries. Topics covered include investigating perceptions and attitudes of both students and lecturers, opportunities and challenges afforded by EMI, as well as the evolution of EMI practices. By exploring these issues, through the lens of a decolonial critical approach, this volume informs theory underlying research into the phenomenon of EMI in the region.

Bachelor Thesis from the year 2020 in the subject Didactics for the subject English - Miscellaneous, grade: 1,5, University of Paderborn (Institut für Anglistik und Amerikanistik), language: English, abstract: Since the textbook is a central teaching and learning aid, this work will examine a part of the tasks and exercises of two books. Referring to this, textbook research is a relevant field of study, because a critical look at current teaching material is always needed to ensure that it is appropriate for pupils as well as it is of good quality considering the achievement of educational goals. To give exemplary research findings, the analysis will focus on textbooks of class eight at Hauptschule (Blue Line 4) and Realschule (Red Line 4) in Northrhine-Westphalia, Germany published by Klett, whereupon in each case the recent version of the year 2017 was chosen. To narrow down the research project furthermore, the work will zoom in on the first unit of the books, which is ¿Gateway NYC¿. The main topic of this bachelor¿s thesis will therefore be: ¿Do tasks and exercises in English Foreign Language textbooks promote Intercultural Competence? - An exemplary analysis based on the topic New York¿. The intention of the work on hand is to evaluate the quality of tasks and exercises for the promotion of Intercultural Competence. To answer the main question of this thesis, the work has been divided into two parts. The first one summarises the most important information and theses on the topic. The second one examines the available textbook material in detail by means of an empirical method. In the theoretical chapter, Intercultural Competence with respect to its definition, importance and establishment in didactics will be explained. Thereupon, the relevance of tasks and exercises in class will be discussed and four quality features of assignments promoting Intercultural Competence will be chosen, which will allow an evaluation of these. In the following, the tasks from the Blue Line 4 and Red Line 4 schoolbooks will be analysed. After investigating the tasks¿ quality individually, the findings will be comprehended and discussed. In the conclusion, the fundamental research findings will finally be recapped and the question of the bachelor¿s thesis will be answered.
The way we talk, and write letters, largely determines our success in life. Now it is well for us to face at once the counter-statement that the most ignorant and uncultivated men often succeed best in business, and that misspelled, ungrammatical advertisements have brought in millions of dollars. As far as spelling is concerned, we know that some of the masters of literature have been atrocious spellers and many suppose that when one can sin in such company, sinning is, as we might say, a "beauty spot", a defect in which we can even take pride. There is a general belief that while bad air may be a positive evil influence, incorrect use of language is at most no more than a negative evil: that while it may be a good thing to be correct, no special harm is involved in being incorrect. The ordinary person conceives of good use of language as an accomplishment to be learned from books, a prim system of genteel manners to be put on when occasion demands, a sort of superficial education in the correct thing, or, as the boys would say, "the proper caper." In this, however, he is mistaken.Language which expresses the thought with strict logical accuracy is correct language. Language which is sufficiently rich in its resources to express thought fully is effective language. If the writer or speaker has a sufficient stock of words and forms at his disposal, he has only to use them in a strictly logical way and with sufficient fullness to be both correct and effective. The unfortunate thing is that teachers of language have failed to go to the root of the trouble, and enormous effort has counted for nothing, and besides has led to discouragement. The right kind of language-teaching will give us power, a kind of eloquence, a skill in the use of words. That help us to write advertisements that pull business, write letters that win customers, and speak in effective ways to sell goods.

Over the past decade, interest in language teacher education and professionalization programs has increased significantly mainly due to global educational reforms, which have been driven by internationalization, multilingualism, the rise of new literacy and the incorporation of technologies. These reforms, based on the challenges of knowledge societies and networks, have created the need to re-evaluate and reconceptualize teacher training and teacher professional development as a "fundamental connection to teaching" (Bryant et al., 2008; Vélaz de Medrano & Vaillant, 2009; Espinosa, 2012; Johnson and Golombeck, 2018). The main objective is, then, to "prepare the new generations within an increasingly uncertain and demanding global scenario" (Pérez Ruíz, 2014, p 114). This publication addresses work on the education of language teachers in a variety of sociocultural, educational and institutional contexts carried out in Mexico and Latin America with various methodological designs and approaches from different theoretical perspectives. Therefore, in the context of current challenges, we seek to promote the exchange, discussions of experience and results of research and reflection that can influence the direction and implementation of language policies regarding teacher education and teacher professionalization for language teaching.
