Unter ihr erreichte das Land eine Ausdehnung vom Schwarzen Meer bis zum Kaspischen Meer und es erlebte eine Periode des Wohlstands mit einem hohen wirtschaftlichen und kulturellen Niveau.

Radtouristen haben jedoch nicht nur besondere Ansprüche an ihre Urlaubsdestination, sondern auch ihre ganz eigenen Motive und Interessen. Gleichermaßen ist auch der Stellenwert der Kanaren als Urlaubsdestination in den vergangenen Jahren noch weiter gestiegen. Besonders auf Gran Canaria wurden zuletzt in Bezug auf die internationalen Touristenankünfte neue Rekordwerte erzielt. Einen nicht geringen Anteil an diesem Trend haben auch Aktivtouristen, zu denen unter anderem Wanderer, Golfer, aber eben auch Radtouristen gehören. Doch wo genau liegen die Präferenzen dieser Zielgruppe? Welche naturräumlichen und infrastrukturellen Voraussetzungen müssen gegeben sein, damit eine Destination für Radtouristen attraktiv ist? Neben der Klärung dieser Fragen beschäftigt sich diese Arbeit mit einer Untersuchung des Stellenwerts, den der Radtourismus auf dem Tourismusmarkt des Untersuchungsraums einnimmt. Darüber hinaus wird erforscht, welche Veränderungen in Zukunft eine bessere Ausschöpfung des Potenzials ermöglichen können.

Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2017 im Fachbereich Geowissenschaften / Geographie - Meteorologie, Aeronomie, Klimatologie, Note: 13, Max-Planck-Gymnasium München, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Die Arktis ist für die meisten Menschen nur ein fernes und vermeintlich wirtschaftlich uninteressantes Gebiet, doch wie die restliche Welt befindet sich auch die Arktis in einem enormen Wandlungsprozess: Zwar strahlte das ewige Eis der Polkappen unserer Erde schon immer eine enorme Anziehungskraft auf die meisten Abenteurer und Entdecker aus aber auch wirtschaftliches Interesse in Form von Walfang und Pelzhandel gehören - vor allem in Grönland - zur Geschichte der Region. Doch die Aufmerksamkeit und Faszination der Forscher heute erregt das Nordpolargebiet auf eine ganz andere und viel bedeutendere Weise. Die ersten Expeditionen, welche ungefähr Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts starteten, waren noch von Erfolg und Ruhm getrieben, so dass ein regelrechter Wettlauf zum nördlichsten Punkt der Erde entstand - viele mussten allerdings dies mit ihrem Leben bezahlen. Der Sieger blieb allerdings bis heute ungeklärt, denn nachdem 1909 der US-Amerikaner Robert Peary behauptete, als erster Mensch den Nordpol erreicht zu haben verkündete, ein weiterer US-Amerikaner, Frederick Albert Cook, sogar schon ein Jahr früher das Unmögliche geschafft zu haben. Doch ob er diese Herausforderung tatsächlich meisterte ist aufgrund fehlender Dokumente ungewiss. Seit das Polareis allerdings seine Ewigkeit zu verlieren scheint, starten Forschungsreisen, wie zum Beispiel die russische Expedition ¿Artika 2007¿, nur noch mit dem untergeordneten Ziel sich dadurch mit Erfolg rühmen zu können. Stattdessen wollen Forscher nun die verborgenen Schätze des Gebiets finden: Neben Silber, Zink, Diamanten, Gold und weiteren kostbaren Bodenschätzen dieser Art werden von den meisten Wissenschaftlern knapp ein Fünftel der weltweit vorhandenen Öl- und Gasvorkommen unter dem Eis vermutet. Doch diese vielen Ressourcen in mitten des hoch fragilen Ökosystems der Arktis bringen nicht nur heikle politische und umwelttechnische Themen auf, sondern bedürfen auch einer höchst komplexen Logistik. Laut einigen Experten, wie zum Beispiel dem britischen Militärexperten der Zeitschrift ¿Jane's Intelligence Review¿, wäre sogar eine erneute Militarisierung des Nordpolargebiets möglich, so dass dieser Konflikt zu einer Neuauflage des Kalten Kriegs führen könnte.

Seit Jahrhunderten ist dieser Punkt der Erde abweisend durch Kälte und Eis, und doch lockt er den Menschen immer wieder zu sich und weckt neue Sehnsüchte und den Drang nach Erkundung. Doch auch abseits dieser romantischen Vorstellung von absoluter Natur und Naturgewalten, ist die Polarregion im Norden ein wichtiges Gebiet für die Menschheit. Ungeahntes Potential schläft unter kilometertiefen Eisdecken. Der Endlichkeit unserer natürlichen Ressourcen bewusst, begeben wir Menschen uns auf die Suche nach neuen Quellen. In Zeiten wachsender Ökonomien und immer schneller werdendem Warenumsatz sind neue, kürzere und schnellere Verbindungswege eine äußerst reizvolle Option. Themen rund um die Arktis sind aktueller und wichtiger denn je. Die Frage die daraufhin unweigerlich gestellt werden muss, lautet: Wie wird ein so einzigartiges Gebiet vor einer Ausbeutung von Ressourcen gesichert? Wie werden indigene Völker, die Umwelt sowie Flora und Fauna geschützt? Ein Vorschlag zum Schutz der Arktis und Regelungen zur Nutzung des Gebietes ist der Entwurf eines Arktisvertrages am Vorbild des bereits bestehenden Antarktisvertrages. Intensiv hat sich Rothwell mit diesem Ansatz beschäftigt. Seine Vorschläge für einen Arktisvertrag werden in dieser Arbeit erläutert. In folgender Arbeit soll kritisch erarbeitet werden, ob dieser Lösungsansatz umsetzbar und zielführend ist. Um dieses Thema zu beleuchten, wird am Anfang definiert, wer genau die arktischen Akteure sind, und somit auch zwischen welchen Staaten eventuelle Differenzen durch gesteigertes Interesse am höchsten sind, und wie die Region ¿Arktis¿ dahingehend geografisch einzuordnen ist. Um über einen möglichen internationalen Vertrag diskutieren zu können, ist es unabdingbar zu wissen, warum ein hohes Interesse an der Region besteht und warum sie besonders schutzwürdig ist. Um die Problematik deutlich zu machen, wird in diesem Papier auf die vorhandenen Ressourcen und Rohstoffe, die Fischerei, mögliche neue Seefahrtsrouten und Territorialansprüche verschiedener Staaten eingegangen.

The authors explain the ethical and philosophical foundations of understanding environmental equity and justice in relation to the development of Arctic natural resources and consider various approaches to the moral aspects of making global management decisions in the field of environmental protection and environmental safety. Special attention is paid to analysis of modern geopolitical and geostrategic challenges to the development of the Arctic region. The monograph identifies the key geopolitical factors affecting the sustainable development of the Arctic and analyzes the similarities and differences in the geostrategic positions of the five Arctic states. The authors reveal the need to consider geopolitical challenges in the process of GER analysis for oil and gas development in the Arctic region. The book explores the intersection of the strategic interests for a number of states and describes Russia's inability to ensure environmental safety in the development of Arctic deposits. The book analyzes in detail each type of GER with an emphasis on their potential to lead to additional opportunities and threats, and assesses environmental rating as an indicator of the GER management process of Russian oil and gas companies operating in the Arctic. Although the main focus is on the Russian part of this region, many arguments and conclusions are quite applicable to the entire Arctic region. Gleichzeitig erlebte das Land in den letzten Jahrzehnten eine dramatische Degradierung seiner Ökosysteme, insbesondere der Waldflächen. Dabei ist festzustellen, dass trotz der ökologischen Bedeutung nur wenig über diese Wälder bekannt ist, sei es bezüglich der Artenzusammensetzung, sei es bezüglich der Habitatpräferenz einzelner, selbst dominanter Baumarten.Die vorliegende Untersuchung, die im Rahmen des 'VISCA-gtz Program on Applied Tropical Ecology' durchgeführt wurde, hatte daher das Ziel, in Primärwaldresten des Tieflandregenwaldes der Insel Leyte (Östliche Visayas) die Vegetationszusammensetzung sowie Struktur von Altbeständen in Abhängigkeit vom Standort zu untersuchen, um basierend auf diesem Wissen Wiederbewaldungskonzepte zu entwickeln. Als wesentliche Ergebnisse der Untersuchung kann festgehalten werden, dass das Untersuchungsgebiet am Fuße des Mt. Pangasugan einen Großteil der typischen Vertreter der philippinischen Dipterocarpaceen-Waldtypen und des Molave-Waldtyps beherbergt. Die dominanten, das Kronendach bildende Bäume repräsentierten dabei aber lediglich einen Bruchteil der insgesamt vorgefundenen 685 Taxa aus 289 Gattungen und 111 Familien, während der Großteil der Pflanzendiversität im Zwischenstand und Unterwuchs zu finden war. Zahlreiche Arten zeigten ein deutlich habitatabhängiges Vorkommen. Das Wissen um die Habitatpräferenz von Arten, insbesondere der lokalen Baumarten ist eine wesentliche Voraussetzung für Maßnahmen im Zuge einer Restaurationsökologie sowie erfolgreicher Landrehabilitierungsmaßnahmen.

Two things resonate in Tom Nagy's photographic portraits of icebergs and Antarctic land-scapes: the untamable, irrepressible energies of nature and the fragility of its jagged shapes, which are minimalistic and narrative, static and mobile, majestic and delicate all at the same time. Angola - I love this land - is on the move and I visited it again for several weeks in August/September 2021.After 30 years of civil war and 10 years now of stable peace, the country is still in its infancy with regard to tourism. Even for those with travel experience in Africa, Angola is one of the last "blank areas" on the continent so that there are as good as no tourists here, let alone photographers. The city of Luanda is counted incidentally as the most expensive capital worldwide and is also called the "Dubai of Africa". Huge offshore reserves of gas and oil have completely upset the price structure. Angola is an emergent regional power in southern Africa - a country with an unparalleled balancing act in the face of its incredible wealth of mineral resources and concurrent enormous poverty. A small state elite profits from this and casts a hopeful eye on capital markets abroad. The rapidly growing young population lives for the most part in poverty, however, and the gap between rich and poor is especially wide here. There is extreme inequality between the social classes in Angola - and it is chronic. Only a very small minority wallows in opulent luxury.The country itself, three times the size of Germany, is a land of great contrasts, a huge puzzle of different climatic zones, landscapes and cultures, characterised by the alternation between tradition and modernity. The population of Angola is similar to most countries in the region with regard to its structure. With the exception of the small group of Khoisan living in the southwest, all the other Angolan ethnic groups belong to the Bantu group. The very small group of Europeans consists largely of people of Portuguese origin. They found the correct language designations too difficult and so there are two names for all of Angola's indigenous tribes. When the country became independent in 1975, there was a mass exodus of the Portuguese. And with them went also the expertise and capital denied to the Africans. However, the common language up to today is Portuguese.My journey began with the landing in the capital Luanda, where approximately 10 million people live, and from there went in a southerly direction along the coastal road, often with pleasant views of the sea and the beach. The eight-hour journey took me first to Benguela. My first resting place - and last one in a hotel - was in this lively town with its 3 million inhabitants.The next morning I continued south - another eight hours in the jeep - as far as the province of Namibe, home of the Herero groups, in this case also known as Himba or Ovahimba. (Fig. 1) They also live by the river Kunene in northern Namibia. On my numerous trips to the former German colony I had already been fascinated by this ethnic group with their red body painting (red granite dust mixed with fat). They are nomadic hunters, gatherers and cowherds and are part of the Bantu language group. Some of them also moved to southern Angola in the 16th century. I spent my first days "in the bush" and in my tent in the region around Virei. The Mucubal (Ovakuvale) also live here. Their hair adornments are known as ompota. The cord around the female breast is called oyonduthi and serves as a kind of bra. (Fig. 2)My journey led me further to Oncocua, Pediva and Otechifengo in order to be close to the Mucawana (Ovahakaona). They, too, are wonderful, peaceable people who often live so isolated that they hardly know white people. (Fig. 3)In the following days we drove over dirt tracks in the direction of Cahama. I was able to meet another indigenous tribe, the Mumuhuila (Ovamwila). Their wonderful hairstyle with the unusual plaits with mud crusts and the colourful neckbands (Vikeba) I would like to call art. Great craftsmanship is required here to create this. (Fig. 4)The wonderful moments with the people I met on this journey form my most important memory and were a priceless experience. Even in the most remote "bush" we were never alone. Alone the sound of our vehicle's engine roused the curiosity of the natives, for it signalled that strangers were coming! Almost every morning when we crawled out of our tents, several inhabitants - often with children - were already standing within due distance from us, observing exactly what we were doing. After breakfast we usually invited them to come closer and gave them rice, pasta, fruit, bread or sweets.A subsequent photo shooting often then developed. My two wonderful guides Jake and Mario always made very friendly contact with the natives during our trip and gave me a signal when I could take photos. Following this I always thanked them in the local currency - and the people were usually then radiant, for they knew that they would now be able to make ends meet financially for a week or more.I had also brought a lot of bags with me from Germany containing small lighters, combs, mirrors, pencils, toys, ballpoint pens and many other articles - all things which were also very gratefully received. We gave out sweets, biscuits and chocolate amongst other things to the children. The children are real treasures, extremely interested and approachable, for our visit brought a little variety to their everyday life as cow or goat herds or water carriers. If the school is too far away, their entire life consists of these very strenuous activities.Several times we were invited extremely warmly to village festivals; a goat was slaughtered and dancing and drinking took place around a campfire.A wonderful expedition came to an end much too quickly - and in retrospect I am glad to say I never had the impression that the identity of these wonderful indigenous tribes is threatened in the intermediate term.
