The anti-rom-com debut collection that took Nigeria by storm, featuring twelve outrageous, bold, and laugh-out-loud stories about the perils and pitfalls of dating men in Lagos, from a rising star of Nollywood. One night, you will calmly put a knife to your husband's penis and promise to cut it off. It will scare him so much that the next day, he will call his family members for a meeting in the house. He will not call your family members, but you will not care. You won't need them. In this remarkable short story collection, Damilare Kuku takes us deep into the heart of modern Lagos, Nigeria's largest city, and the lives of a collection of audacious women who cope with romantic difficulties by brilliantly turning the tables on the men who wrong them. One hardworking married woman calmly threatens sharp-edged revenge on her lazy, hypocritical husband. Another skillfully protects her own business interests by shielding her pastor-husband from allegations of cheating that may or may not be true. A group of wealthy wives deceived by their husbands join forces in a WhatsApp support group called the Virtuous Wives Guild. And a discerning dater fed up with Nigerian men makes a vow to only date oyibos, only to discover that white men can act just as badly.A runaway bestseller in Damilare Kuku's native Nigeria, Nearly All the Men in Lagos Are Mad is a raunchy, satisfying, and outrageous read steeped in the chaos and allure of sub-Saharan Africa's largest city. It's also a love letter to Nigerian women: the women in these stories may be confronted at every turn with liars, scammers, and cheaters in their quests for love, but they always figure out how to come out victorious.
"The wellbeing and development of peoples not yet able to stand by themselves, form a sacred Trust of Civilisation." -The Covenant of the League of Nations, Article 22 (1924) The Dual Mandate in British Tropical Africa (1922) by Frederick Lugard was written as a guide to British administrators in colonized Africa. Lugard's experience as governor of Nigeria among other colonial and African experiences made him an authority on British colonialism. His writing provided guidance for the colonies' governance using indirect rule and touted the spread of Christianity. He also promoted an increasing commerce through exports and curbing slave trade. This work is a must-read for anyone who wants to understand colonialism of this era through a primary source document.
A Platter of Gold is an exciting, epic colonial biography of a nation. How did Nigeria come to be a nation?Over the course of fifty-four years, till the eve of Independence, eight colonial proconsul Governors for the British Empire pitched wit, passion and guile against under-celebrated, sometimes everyday Nigerians: Ahmadu Attahiru I, the Sokoto Caliph and his cavalry, who violently resisted British ouster and occupation, Eleko and the Lagos Chieftains, Who first claimed they would "rather die than pay tax"; Nwanyeruwa of Oloko and her intelligent trio who said, "We will not pay tax till the world ends"; the scores of women of Opobo who led the women's war against taxation; Alimotu Pelewura and the market women who would not "sell their country" for personal gain, but instead asked for free trade; Michael Imoudu and his workers' union, who paralysed the nation's economy under a general strike for native workers' rights and equality; Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti and the Abeokuta Women's Union, who demanded native participation in government and seamen's liberation; and the miners of Iva Valley, Enugu, including the twenty-one killed, echo mounted a go-slow strike for equal treatment and respect for natives in their work place. This is a story of Nigeria's history as well as the history of Nigeria s story. The other story!
A reinterpretation of the history of Sokoto that provides a new assessment of its leaders and their visions for the Muslim state.

Say to them, 'As surely as I live, declares the Sovereign Lord, I take no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but rather that they turn from their ways and live.' Ezekiel 33:11 The Bible gives a clear picture of God's heart concerning lost sinners. If the condition of the lost is clearly understood, those who believe in Christ will do all they can to see that this Gospel of the Kingdom is preached to as many as possible. One of the ways this has been accomplished is through the estab- lishment of mission organisations or agencies that work alongside church- es to facilitate the proclamation of the Gospel. The Sudan Interior Mission (SIM)[1] is one such organization whose first missionaries had the burden to reach the interior of Africa, especially the geographical area known, prior to colonial rule, as the Central Sudan. They arrived in this land, now known as Nigeria, in the year 1893. After years of faithful witnessing and teach- ing, churches were established and the converts assumed the burden and re- sponsibility to take this Gospel of the Kingdom to others. They developed a lifestyle of evangelism and took the message they received to those around them. They moved out first to their relatives and neighbours, and then to more distant places to those of different tribes and cultures from their own. In order to facilitate the evangelism outreach of African Christians, SIM helped to organize a mission society for Africans. It was first known as the African Missionary Society (AMS) of the Sudan Interior Mission (SIM). AMS was born out of the early burden and vision passed on to the believers in the newly established SIM churches. The churches were eventually or- ganized into a denomination called the Evangelical Church of West Africa (ECWA). Today the mission society is known as the Evangelical Missionary Society (EMS) of ECWA. 3 4 PANYA BABA Since EMS was first established in 1948, hundreds of African mission- aries have been sent out to preach the Gospel and establish churches among those who do not know the Lord Jesus Christ as Saviour. God continues to use EMS missionaries towards the expansion of the Kingdom of God in Nigeria and in other parts of Africa, and beyond. They continue to partici- pate in the vision, established long ago, that all may have the opportunity to hear the Good News of salvation in Christ. The first 50 years of the story of how EMS participated in the vision of reaching the lost is the subject of this book. We say, with the writer of Psalm 126:3, "The Lord has done great things for us, and we are filled with joy." One of the tragedies in Israel's history after the death of Joshua, one of the great heroes of faith, is recorded for us in Judges 2:10-11: "Another genera- tion grew up who knew neither the Lord, nor what he had done for Israel. Then the Israelites did evil in the eyes of the Lord and served Baal." This book provides a way for future generations to hear and understand what God has done in the past through His servants who served God as missionaries with EMS. He is waiting to do even more through those who are ready to serve Him today. May God use this brief story of the work of EMS to encourage and challenge many to give themselves more completely to participate in God's plan to reconcile all creation to Himself.

- This book is a multi-vocal, inter-disciplinary, examination of Baga culture and specifically the performance of the Serpent masquerade within that cultureThis study of the wooden Serpent figures/headdresses of the Baga people of Guinea is a collaboration by the author, as an art historian, with many contributions from diverse perspectives, including scientists preeminent in their fields, Robert J. Koestler, Roy Sieber, Dennis William Stevenson, Mark T. Wypyski, and Peter J. Zanzucchi. The text begins with a thorough exploration of the ethnological and art historical evidence for the Serpent masquerade among the Baga of Guinea, bearing an immense wooden serpent figure on top of the head representing a python. Never witnessed or photographed by an outsider, it disappeared in the 1950s along with most ritual performance after an Islamic jihad instated strict prohibitions against indigenous religions. The ritual context is followed by an in-depth analysis of the Serpent masquerade figures now extant in collections in Europe, the Americas, and Africa, as well as other representations of the python in the ritual art of the region. The final sections present the arguments, as a debate, between interested persons in the arts, including art historians, dealers, appraisers, collectors, and curators, and the scientific examinations by specialists in botany, chemistry, physics, entomology, and conservation concerning one particular Serpent figure in question.

"This book begins with Dikâeogu Obidimkpa slowly losing his mind. Yes, that boy who can bring rain just by thinking about it is having some issues. Years ago, Dikâeogu went on an epic journey to save Earth with the shadow speaker girl, Ejii Ubaid, who became his best friend. When it was all over, they went their separate ways, but now he's learned their quest never really ended at all. So Dikâeogu, more powerful than ever, reunites with Ejii. He records this story as an audiofile, hoping it will help him keep his sanity or at least give him something to leave behind. Smart kid, but it won't work--or will it?"--

The origin, history, worldview of the Igbo, one of the three major ethnic groups in Nigeria, is shrouded in mystery. Also, there is the controversy about who really are the Igbo, their institutions, political organisation, and relationships with their neighbours. The book not only unravels these mysteries, but also brings to focus contributions made by the Igbo, both at home and in the Diaspora, towards global peace and development. The book also chronicles the travails of the Igbo in Nigeria and recommends that the Igbo should stop lamenting their fate and start reconstructing and expanding their economy if they want to regain their lost glory.____________________________DONS EZE, PhD, is a Philosopher and Journalist with a distinguished career in the media that spanned over forty years. A visceral and candid portrait of today's Ghanaian youth, told in interconnected short stories by acclaimed spoken-word artist and author of the poetry collection Woman, Eat Me Whole Ama Asantewa Diaka. In this startling collection of short fiction, Ama Asantewa Diaka creates a vibrant portrait of young Ghanaians' today, captured in the experiences of characters whose lives bump against one other in friendship, passion, hope, and heartache. Men like Opoku Sr., not yet forty and struggling to keep his family's cocoa business afloat after his father's unexpected passing. Opoku strains under the burden of caring for his eight younger siblings and the child whose mother ran off. When his new girlfriend tells him she's pregnant, he knows he has nothing left to give.Years later, that girlfriend's son, Opoku Jr., now faces his own troubles, including his girlfriend Boatemaa, who (correctly) suspects he is sneaking around, and Amoafoa, the woman he's seeing on the side. And there is John, who confides to his crush Baaba about a surprising encounter with a male friend over a game of FIFA; Baaba, who falls into a whirlwind romance with her professor that ends in violence; and their friend Ayeley, who is learning to accept pleasure after being raised to believe it is sinful.Diaka charts this constellation of interconnected lives in thirteen stories, exploring themes which run through the collection like a current: corruption and economic hardship, trauma and infidelity, shame, neglect, and the tribulations of the female body. In telling their stories, Diaka illuminates hope, freedom, and triumph that can be found in the everyday?the bonds between women, the joys of love and sex and art and dancing, the possibility of repair and redemption.Renowned for her spoken word artistry, Ama Asantewa Diaka demonstrates her lyrical brilliance in this emotionally rich work that unveils profound truths about her country, its inhabitants, and the universality of human experience.
Written by Paul du Chaillu, the explorer who was the first outsider to confirm the existence of the Pygmy people of central Africa and of the gorilla-both of which had only been rumoured at before-this book is a dramatic and continually enthralling account of a nearly seven-year long exploration of West and Central Africa in the 1860s.Commissioned by the Academy of Natural Sciences at Philadelphia, the author was sent to West Africa and the equator region on that continent in order to establish the nature of the population and the wildlife, which was little known before that time. During his explorations, he became the first outsider to see and capture gorillas, the existence of which was only known from a passing reference in a work by Hanno the Navigator of Carthage dating from the 5th century BC. In addition, Du Chaillu thoroughly documented the native peoples of the regions he explored, recording their customs, dress, habits, technology, and culture. In this manner he also came upon the Pygmy people of central Africa and was the first to document their existence and announce it to the outside world.Du Chaillu's work remains a pioneering effort in exploratory anthropology and has lost none of its vitality or interest over the years. It remains a primary resource for anyone seeking an in-depth insight into pre-colonial and pre-urban West and Central Africa. This new edition has been completely reset and contains all the original illustrations, digitally reproduced to the highest possible quality.
