With a passion for art in all its forms, Anthony Shaw has created an extraordinary art collection which focuses in particular on British sculptural ceramics. The collection features among its major artists Gordon Baldwin, Ewen Henderson, Gillian Lowndes, Bryan Illsley, and Sara Radstone, who all work intuitively and express the "felt" nature of their works, in doing so often transcending the limitations of their medium. The most recent additions include Nao Matsunaga and Kerry Jameson, who likewise invariably produce the unexpected. The works, skillfully staged by photographer Philip Sayer, are complemented with contributions by Anthony Shaw himself and David Whiting, who set this remarkable collection in its art historical context.
Gabi Dziuba's jewelry is stringent, laid-back, fragile, minimalist, glamorous, and progressive. Blister packs, coins, beans, or letters are turned into willful creations. Collaboration with close artist associates is characteristic of her work, including those with Günther Förg, Hans-Jörg Mayer, Martin Kippenberger, Heimo Zobernig, Monika Baer, and Alexandra Bircken, whose works are included in this monograph. This highlights the openness of Dziuba's artistic approach to new trends-Pop Art, Minimal Art, punk, fashion. A fascinating biography results in which the visual artist, musician, designer, and entrepreneur has freely experimented with the traditional assignment of roles since the 1970s. Gabi Dziuba & Friends is a vivid survey of her extraordinary working methods and the exhibition activities in her Berlin studio.
The name Johann Joachim Kaendler (1706-1775) is closely entwined in the eighteenth century with the golden age of the Meissen Porcelain Manufactory. His exceptional artistic talent, coupled with craftsmanship, enabled him to capture the daily life of the nobility in their palaces and residences in numerous figures and groups. In doing so, he did not limit himself to official events but reflected tastes and aspirations as well as current trends. In the publication Magnificence of Rococo impressive porcelain figurines from top-class European private collections are brought together for the first time: on over 300 pages, these magnificent, often unique objects provide insights into courtly life of the Baroque and Rococo periods.
Hollow goose eggs, natural sponges, packaging, balloons featuring smileys, shoe soles, scientific gauges, or even his mother's gallstones-the repertoire of things elevated to jewelry objects knows no bounds for the Norwegian artist Sigurd Bronger. His "portable objects" are turned into wearables by means of artful hanging mechanisms. For Bronger, jewelry is a means of communication. The questions he poses with his works relate to function and use, decoration, aesthetic, and beauty, and his works invite us to see things anew: does the beautiful really have to be useless and the practical aesthetically uninteresting? Through the witty yet subtle cosmos of this extraordinary artist, our own "world of things" is becoming a good deal greater.
The !Xun & Khwe Art Project was developed in 1993 in a refugee camp in Schmidtsdrift, South Africa. After being party to the struggles for liberation from colonial rule, endangered groups of San people from Namibia and Angola were relocated there. They eventually found their final home in the self-governing South African community of Platfontein. The art of the !Xun and Khwe came about during the short period of transition from a traditional way of life to a modern, globalized society. This is what makes them unique. The collection of Hella Rabbethge-Schiller reveals the remarkable creativity and visual expressiveness of the artists. Despite otherwise depending on oral transmission, the San have captured their stories for posterity here in images charged with energy.
Calligraphy means ‘the art of writing beautifully’. Driven by its use in the Koran, artfully executed Arabic script became a key religious and political marker at a very early stage; since then calligraphy has played a central role in the Islamic world. In addition to appearing on paper, artful writing can be found on everything, from coins, weapons, dishes, lamps and textiles to the façades and interiors of buildings. The many types of texts offer rich and varied insights into Islamic art, culture and societies.Beyond Words presents 128 objects featuring calligraphy, most notably from The David Collection. In addition, the book contains articles on such subjects as the Arabic alphabet, classical scripts, the calligraphers and the different types of texts. The publication also explores the use of Arabic lettering in earlier European art and in modern-day Arabic graffiti.
Kalligrafi betyder ”kunsten at skrive smukt”.
Guaymallén is a municipality in the province of Mendoza in Argentina. It was here that La Chola Poblete, Deutsche Bank's "Artist of the Year" 2023, was born in 1989. Her work combines biographical and cultural-aesthetic references with fundamental criticism. La Chola engages with the consequences of colonialism and capitalism, especially in the context of the obliteration and stereotyping of Indigenous peoples and cultures.

Our recent past has been shaped by the repercussions of the pandemic (lockdown, isolation, distance, immobility, and so on). This turn of events has clearly influenced architecture: there is renewed demand for a more direct link with the outside, more proximity and more contact. The exhibition presents buildings and projects of this period (2020-23) and and discusses the circumstances under which they were created. This is more than a presentation of the results: this monografie also reflect on the unexpected occurrences that affected (or even, sometimes, explained) the work and the moment.Text: Toni Catany, Gabriel Ramon, Aldo Amoretti.
The catalogue explores the late artist's work by taking up his interpretations of capitalism and cultural imperialism as they relate to art in American culture. Created at the threshold of the twenty-first century, Majerus's works expound on themes of transformation. They are characterized by his fascination with speed, his passion for technology, youth culture, and art history and his perception of the power of art and institutions. This monograph provides a novel look at the artist's brief but dynamic and prolific career. Highlighting Majerus's timely reflection on and criticism of the pervasiveness of images, one of the book's focal points is his look on the collaboration between Jean-Michel Basquiat and Andy Warhol.Text: Bruce Hainley, Mara Hoberman.

100 Jahre Konkrete Kunst - Aktualität und Zukunft einer Kunstrichtung Künstler/-innen: Banz & Bowinkel, Carsten Beck, Anna-Maria Bogner, Nina Brauhauser, Martim Brion, Sebastian Dannenberg, Lena Ditlmann, Fabian Gatermann, Charlotte Giacobbi, Dave Grossmann, Vladiana Ghiulvessi, Toulu Hassani, Erika Hock, Marile Holzer, Silvia Inselvini, Patrizia Kränzlein, Schirin Kretschmann, Sali Muller, Catalin Pislaru, Fiene Scharp, Marco Stanke, Virginia Toma, Amalia Valdés, Jonas Weichsel Blick ins Buch

The Anahuacalli Museum in Mexico City, a pyramid-shaped structure of volcanic stone, was intended to be the final mansion of Diego Rivera and his wife, Frida Kahlo. Today, it houses Rivera's vast collection of pre-Columbian art. Unlike typical museums, the building's galleries resemble religious or ceremonial chambers, and the corridors are dramatic and cavernous. In 2022, artist Robert Janitz (b. 1962 in Alsfeld, Germany), who had recently moved to Mexico City from New York, was invited to exhibit his work at Anahuacalli. This catalog documents this extraordinary dialogue between pre-Hispanic and contemporary aesthetics. As an outsider, Janitz was free to respond to what he found compelling at Anahuacalli: the colors, the textures, the visionary architecture. Throughout the museum's three floors, Janitz installed large-scale paintings on the walls, even the ceiling and floor, to amplify and distort Rivera's almost ubiquitous decorative program. His paintings of tubular structures, halfway between hieroglyphs and shapes, were spotlit against the heavy, dark stone walls, giving them a jewel-like luminosity and creating an almost metaphysical and spiritual experience. Conceptually and chromatically, Anahuacalli seemed the perfect home for Janitz's extravagantly colored silhouettes.

For more than three decades, Gregory Crewdson has been luring viewers into the worlds of his cinematic, highly detailed, and assiduously crafted photographs. This retrospective catalog features images from nine series that represent a broad chronological spectrum of Crewdson's oeuvre. Included are selections from Twilight, the eerie and often darkly humorous photographs inspired by Stephen Spielberg's Close Encounters of the Third Kind; Beneath the Roses, which illuminates townscapes, forest clearings and broad, desolate streets with unsettling clarity; the black and white images of Sanctuary, shot on location at the legendary Cinecittà studios on the outskirts of Rome; Cathedral of the Pines, a paean to the beauty and tragedy of a gritty western Massachusetts town; and Eveningside, in which moments of alienation and wonder occur within the confines of quotidian life. With highest quality reproductions, paper changes, and incisive essays by photography expert Walter Moser and other esteemed art historians, this exhibition catalog reveals why Crewdson's powerful, elegiac and painterly photos draw comparisons to old master painting, staged photography and auteur cinema.
