For a long time, Ozu's movies have been praised as the typical representation of Japanese culture such as Zen or Buddhism. However, this point of view which strongly echoes the roots of Western documentary genre linked to travelling and exoticism is highly limited and avoid the nature of the media of representation itself: cinema. Cinema is a language. It translates a subjective vision of an author influenced by the objective reality he frames. In the postwar Japan and the increasing modernization, this "picturesque" Japan was strongly questioned by intellectuals and artists very concerned by the loss of Japanese identity at the favor of the underside of Western modernity such as consumerism. Periods of trouble like the 1960s' rebuilding of the country or the 1990s' lost decade even more accentuated the urges of Japanese filmmakers to question Japanese identity, to question images through images, to use images in order to unravel what lies beneath them. From a selection of Japanese filmmakers's works, this essay aims to analyze one aspect of this Japanese identity questionning through images: disinhabitation.

North -East India is one of the largest producers of pineapples in the country, and there are many small fruit-processing units across the region that process pineapples during the harvest season. These units, being labor-intensive, are a significant source of employment for the local population. Pineapple processing activities, mainly, starts with the manual peeling task that is quite repetitive, time-taking and laborious. The well-being and productivity of the workers and highly compromised due to use of old traditional tools and techniques. In spite of the various peeling related issues, the processing units adhere to the traditional peeling methods as they don¿t find any solution appropriate to their context of use. The thesis looks into existing work process related to pineapple processing and associated physical and occupational issues including risk factors influencing productivity. The issues are then addressed through strategic design intervention, developing work methods, tools, and equipment for safe, effective, fast peeling of pineapples.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the phenomenon of code-switching between Standard Modern Greek (SMG) and Cypriot Greek (CG) within the setting of Cypriot court proceedings. Specifically, an effort was made to examine the formation of impressions or language attitudes about witnesses by the presiding judges as a consequence of language alternation and dependent on the code in which witnesses chose to express themselves. Furthermore, the study aimed at focusing on Critical Discourse Analysis in verbal court interactions in such a way as to illuminate possible intentions or motivations driving code-switching which serve various communicative objectives.

With the emerging trend in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) shifting focus from usability to facilitating meaningful experiences, the notion of embodied cognition provides designers and researchers with valuable insight into how the body-mind interplay can influence meaning-making during embodied experiences. This book presents an approach to designing embodied interactions with ambient media. Building on theories of embodied cognition and cognitive semantics, the approach is developed by conducting a series of studies, including interpretive case analysis, empirical research into audience experience and design ideations, as well as designerly reflections. The findings showed that the embodied approach is applicable for designing meaningful interactions, by coupling bodily engagement with metaphorical meanings. Design implications and future work are also presented.

Thin rim gears find application in high-power, lightweight aircraft transmissions. Rim thickness and pressure angle are the significant design parameter for these gears. The rim thickness factor is used in the situations in which a gear is made with a rim and spokes rather than a solid disc. Under these circumstances, failure can occur across the rim rather than through the tooth root.An asymmetric spur gear drive means that larger and smaller pressure angles are applied for the driving and coast sides. The two profiles of a gear tooth are functionally different for most gear drives. The main objective of this paper is to estimate the critical section for different pressure angles and backup ratios and compare the results obtained by other researchers. Developed programme is used to create a finite element model for symmetric and asymmetric spur gear tooth to study the effect of bending stress at the critical section for different backup ratios and pressure angle. To study the effect of above parameter ANSYS is used .The rim thickness was varied and the location and magnitude of the maximum bending stresses were reported and results obtained were compared.

This book was my research project report submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Bachelor of Science in Statistics (Honors) to the University of Namibia, Faculty of Science, Department of Statistics And Population Studies during my final year of my studies. The primary objective of this study was to explore the students¿ perception on campus safety and the use of campus safety services. The recent events of campus violence have been making media headlines for these past years and as a result thereof the nation¿s higher education (UNAM) campuses have been affected either directly or indirectly by these acts of violence. Therefore this research was very important for the University of Namibia's Department of Safety and Security in order to determine which security measures are effective when it came to the safety of the students at the main campus.

Klironomy ia new cross-border science of cultural heritage preservation, the science between art, culture, social sciences, humanitarian sciences and philosophy. In present days, there are conservation and restoration of tangible objects as the main directions of preservation. So it is problem to form unified cultural worldview. However, Klironomy unites all four directions including renovation and revitalization, and research tangible and intangible cultural heritage in the ways of four directions of heritage preservation Klironomy is divided into three directions of klironomical sciences - tactile, facile and theoretical. All klironomical sciences, designed in three directions, form unified klironomical worldview, which helps to understand actuality of cultural heritage preservation in complex. Thus, Klironomy as new complex science can become separated scientific field.

While distributed leadership in education is the focus of many studies in developed countries, very little has been discussed about the concept and application of the approach in developing countries like Pakistan, with varying educational and socio-cultural contexts. This book presents an analysis of the distributed leadership situation in low-fee schools of Pakistan through discussion of a multi-site ethnographic case study involving public and private schools. An analysis of the nature of and cultural influences on distributed leadership practices for instructional improvement and student learning is followed by discussion of a distributed leadership design for instructional improvement developed through a Design Based Research intervention in one of the schools. Distribution of leadership roles and tasks existed in all the schools to keep instruction and student learning within prescribed formats. Leadership and instructional practices with a normative reference to instructional improvement and learning were deficient.A contextually relevant model was developed and fine-tuned in three iterative cycles and design principles were extracted.

The main goal of this research is to investigate new methods intended to increase the degree of driving automation of autonomous vehicles operating in realistic conditions, in both on-road and o-road environments. Safe driving in an urban, extra-urban, or, in general, uncertain environments requires the continuous combination of three important complementary functions: (i) interpretation of the surrounding environment (sense); (ii) evaluation of safe-driving plans taking into account the risk of collision or unsafe driving according to the characteristics of the scene, including any moving participants (plan); (iii) action, considering the outputs of the two previous tasks and involving an on-line reactive navigator able to avoid any choices leading to probabilistically inevitable collisions in the near future (act).

Adolescent health studies in the Volta Region have examined various subjects including family planning, unsafe abortions, teenage pregnancy, and determinants of early sexual activity among others. However, very little empirical evidence exists to date about the psychosocial challenges pregnant adolescents go through. Understanding the nature and extent of psychological challenges surrounding adolescent pregnancy will help inform policy and appropriate psychosocial interventions to improve the health of pregnant adolescents. The study aimed to examine the psychosocial challenges of pregnant adolescents and to describe the causes of teenage pregnancy in the Ho Municipality. This was an exploratory facility-based qualitative study using narrative and phenomenological approach. In-Depth Interview (IDI) technique was used to gather information from pregnant adolescents (10-19 years) accessing health care at the Volta Regional and Ho Municipal Hospitals. Purposive sampling involving maximum variation technique was used. The interviewees were included based on their acceptability, willingness to participate and provide information for this study.

MARIA EMILIA V.

This early work by William Morris was originally published in 1899 and we are now republishing it with a brand new introductory biography. William Morris was born in London, England in 1834. Arguably best known as a textile designer, he founded a design partnership which deeply influenced the decoration of churches and homes during the early 20th century. However, he is also considered an important Romantic writer and pioneer of the modern fantasy genre, being a direct influence on authors such as J. R. R. Tolkien. As well as fiction, Morris penned poetry and essays. We are republishing these classic works in affordable, high quality, modern editions, using the original text and artwork.
